I currently use 29 & 30 g Kanthal, would I use the same gage in SS316 as a replacement?
I tend to use thicker wire (24g, 26g), but that's down to personal preference
PS: just remember what @Rayonati Sloth said, SS sports lower resistance than Kanthal at the same wire gauge.

Where did you get your wire? I hear Temco will be carrying it, but haven't looked to see if they have it yet.
Using Steam Engine as a guide, I might try some 30, 32, and 34 gage, if those three gages are available.
Temco is now carrying it under special metal wire, began 3-ish days ago...I used ebay, but have since ordered from Temco and will use it from now on. I greatly prefer a reputable vendor like Temco :)

I didn't mean to derail this thread, but I'm happy to see others using SS and giving it praise as well. Wish I had discovered it a long time ago. I find it easier to build with, and it retains form better once mounted and pulsed. It's a dream wire IMO, we will see if that opinion holds up with continued usage!

Between SS and Rayon my vape has become so much better in the past month that it is unfathomable...

Like the versatility of ss, I bought in at the beginning and got the 430 which I don't care for due to spring. Its noticeably better vaping than other TC wire imo... I hear the 316 isn't springy, does it hold a symmetrical coil? I need to get some as I'm almost out of Kanthal... And don't like the 28 ss430.

I wouldn't describe the 316L as springy at all personally, never used 430 so can't compare but what I can say is it holds form way better than kanthal, no coil sag whatsoever at dry pulsing initially - these are in fact the sturdiest, easiest to make coils I've ever used :)

I picked up some 20g SS316L from Michaels the other day. I put an 8/7 8 wrap 4.3mm (11/64) ID coil in the Patriot with not a lot of room left for wick. I do like a coil though that you can pull the whole Sally's strand through at once.

I can guarantee there is no coil sag when pulsing a 20g SS316L coil.

Otherwise I use the Unk SS430 all the time as a single in the GEM or twisted in other attys like the Goblin Mini V2, Kronos and SQuape Rs. I have really come to enjoy the 8 wraps of twisted 430 (2.5mm) in the SQRs at 30W.

SS316L 2.5 mm 9 wraps 26g .5 ohms

Vaping unflavored shows the true nature of the beast. Neither SS nor rayon impart any taste whatsoever. Kanthal does and I never noticed before trying ss
So pretty! Am I allowed to call it pretty? Lol!

Really way too big!
I was just trying to get the resistance up to 0.2 ohms and it fit in the Patriot. The 20g is basically unusable to me as I don't vape in the 0.09 or 0.06 ohm range.

So if anyone is looking for some 20g gauge SS316L wire, Michaels is a quick and easy place to pick it up. That is the only size they carry though.
