Guys I just rewicked my Rm2 for a better build, same coil, still getting this off taste with the first 2 or 3 squonks. Maybe my coil is on the small side 1.5mm so it is choking the piece which I made thin and fluffy. Interested to know your opinions.

I have 4 Reo's and am using RM2's on all of them, wicked with CC. Be sure you are using enough rayon, you need to use enough that it rubs fairly hard against the coil as you are putting it into the coil .. because after it is wet it will shrink a little. In my RM2's I keep my wicks short, so that the outer edge barely touches the bottom deck.

Also, when you first add juice to your new wick, do it several times for at least 1 minute, to be sure the wick is totally saturated over and over a few times .. then take your first vape and it should be good then.

Asking for your thoughts and opinions 'bout this.

On my 3rd tank of DIY Pomegranate (TFA flavoring) w/ CC in an R91 the juice started looking much darker than normal and wasn't tasting good. Took it apart and the wick was all a light chocolate color. Cleaned everything up re-wicked and started over.

This time on 1/2 way through my 2nd tank it started getting an 'off flavor' taste again. The color of the juice in the tank still looked fine. So I just took it apart and the 'light chocolate' color is just beginning to build up on the wick (just one side - odd). I've not had this happen w/ this juice w/ cotton or ReadyX wick material.

So what da ya'll thinks going on?

I pulled the wick out to see what it looked like under the coil and it's not burnt - it actually looked fairly clean. It looks discolored but actually when I grapped the dirty end of the wick to pull it out - it squeezed the darkened juice in the area that was under the wick.

I was way too lazy to read this whole thread and see if someone has mentioned this, but I got very similar results to this using the iTEO wicking method. Basically you take about twice the cotton you normally use, and wet it with eliquid before you put it in. In this way, you can fit much more cotton in the coil, without getting that nasty "too much cotton" taste. It wicks in the same way you described, acting more as a pipe for the juice and less as a saturated wick, and when it gets dry, it starts at the end of the wick and moves towards the coil. I have managed to get hits off of it with part of the cotton dry, without getting any dryness or burning. I am very interested to try rayon and see how it compares.

That is odd.
Could it be a hot spot on that end of the coil?
I think what I would do is wrap a new coil and see if it happens again :2c:

I contacted Company called Lenzing, which makes Tencel and also Rayon and asked them who could supply some Tencel in "cellucotton" form but that discussion is still ongoing.
Keep us updated. I visited their website today, before reading your message, and was thinking about writing to them. No point, I guess I'll wait for your results.

I'm getting the same discoloring like mikee3 on my veritas. I've tried to rewick them at different densities but no luck and I don't see any hotspots.. I don't taste anything burnt but it's been bugging me because of how other's have been staying so clean.

You might want to try leaving a little gap between your coil wraps and see how that works for you. I have done my coils wrapped tight and wrapped with a little gap and both work good for me, however I really think the little gap ones vape a little better but YMMV.

Strange
I have three ATTYs wicked with the rayon and one th3m has been being used for more than 24hrs and there is next to zero discoloration on the wick.
I've pulled two wicks out from the the R91 and had vaped on the first one for several hours and there was again next to zero discoloration.

All i can think of that coil and wick on the right side looks really gunked up like the juice might have a lot of sweetener in it or something going on.. I have had coils look like that pretty fast with some nets but have never tried the juice you are using..

I thought one more observation from a first time user would do good so here we go, flavor change is insant. I was vaping some sour green apple (diy) and I switched it with another diy flavor called envy which is apple absinthe and menthol. I could immediately taste the absinthe but the menthol was MIA. Strange no biggy though I am enjoying it. Anyone else found mutting of menthol?

I have a DIY menthol in my KFL+ and the menthol hits HARD! Harder than on cotton. It's instant frozen yap, throat, lungs.

oops - you might have missed this as I was just editing my post as you were making yours.

"EDIT: My wife just tasted her Pomegranate and said it has a funny undertone. No help there re: 'more sweetness or not'. She couldn't say sweeter or not - just that she didn't like it. It the second tank on a new setup. I'll take it apart and see if there's any 'sag' in the wick."
Maybe it's the Sucralose she's tasting (if any)? To me, that has a funny undertone, and it was the first thing that smacked me in the face when I switched.

The length of your coil look very small, short. What gauge wire and what resistance is it. What watts and or volts are you hitting it with.

This is a 1.4 ohm coil. 28g Kanthal wrapped on a #39 drill bit, .0995". The length is .106" long. And that is Cotton.

Interesting. I'm having the same thing on my cyclone. First build out of many this past week with this issue. Possible that I under stuffed the coils.

I found these sterile rayon balls, $21.84 plus $5.00 shipping. What do you think?

Medline MDS21470 Rayon Balls, Sterile Medium, 1" diameter Case of 4000 | Healthcare Supply Pros

These appear to be the same as all of the other medical grade rayon balls. The advertising is false, further down on the page it says:

Product Description

Made from medical grade rayon fibers to provide the greatest uniformity and highest absorbency. Soft, smooth and virtually lint-free, these white rayon balls retain their shape and do not cling to each other. Non-sterile.

I received my Sallys shipment last friday. The Jury's still out for me between cotton and the Cellucotton.
Flavor of my juices is similar to cotton but there's a little sharpness (lack of better word) that I'm not really digging.

I sub-ohm on my rda's so maybe that is changing the flavor a little coming off the rayon. I'm still liking it. It may be that I've just been using cotton for so long that my buds are picking up the subtle changes. I pulled my cellucotton from 3 of my rda's and I'm back on cotton with those. My KFL and taifun are really shining with the cellucotton though. No off flavor on those at 1.0 and 1.2 ohms and wicking great.

another thing about the cellucotton, and it's one I dont like, is the shrinking. I need to really play around with this stuff a bit on my larger coils to figure out the right amount. The smaller coils hold up better though.

just my .02

what type of atty is that of with the ceramic in the pics from the OP?

Happy to answer that for you.. Funny I've been asked that so many times. It's the grandfather of modern atomizers. The GG odessyus , but I only have the tobecco clone since I can't afford a real one. The clone is pictured. I was the first to put a vertical in it.

Its kinda hard to say as you didn't give much information on your process to wick and prime it. Pictures would be very helpful too.

My experience with it is absolutely pure flavor from the first puff.

Off taste in the beginning could be a few things I suppose, usually too much wick is the culprit.

Or not priming it enough. Other causes; Having hot spots, having something on the wick, dirty fingers.. Could have been how it was stored prior to purchase, or shipped. I suppose it could pick up some scents if it was right next to something....
