Observation on a dripper... I made a coil on a Tobh, single coil, 1.3 ohms, and tried out filling it with different flavours, burning them off one at a time to see if the old flavour persisted, which it didn't - RA to chocolate and then RY4. Thing is, inbetween flavours I just burned off the old one with a 30 second blast from a mech mod, changing the battery each time, and there was no flavour left behind. But! It occurred to me just now, having also used the Tobh for a full day, how was the wick keeping up with this punishment?

Answer : it's clear as a bell, no sign of toasting, no colouration left behind from old juices. Amazing. You can imagine what a straight mech 30 second blast of power would do to a cotton wick, using rayon it just evaporated the juice and was clean for each new filling. This stuff is just amazing.

I just vape till I sense it getting dry add the new juice and it's off to the races. Not sure you need to burn it off like that... try just switching after you run it down a little. Surprising you can punish like that but probably not the best if you do that for 2 weeks. ;)

It was definitely a friendly joke...lol.. You've got a wide range of atties and builds you've perfected. I'm sure when rayon runs out of juice at 75w it vaporizes instantly. The ramie is very heat resistant for sure but definatley more complex to figure out.

That's probably like 2 weeks straight since you have like 50 attys and mods, you lucky son of a gun. ;) .. since I had rayon I couldn't take the time to get the ramie down, I was spoiled. It does taste like china grass though. I was like I'm smoking grass man! Lol

Welcome from England!

Amazing Dave! You are well versed in rayon now.. For sure!!

Thanks bud. Feel like I know you already.
Much more than that, actually.. He's a rayon evangelist! (activist?)

That good soul is distributing rayon samples (cellucotton brand) for free to fellow Eurolanders. Me, for one :D

Vape long and prosper, Dave... And a very public thank you for your kindness!

So on to today's adventures.

All my atties bar 2 are now rayoned up, my cotton pads are now feeling unloved at the back of the vape cupboard

Decided to try a new wick that I've never used before. A friend of mine kindly sent me 40 feet of ribbon wire that he's not using any more, so I thought I'd try "Mundy's Magic Ribbon". What an absolute pain in the rear to do. Ribbon kept on kinking up as I was twisting it, finally after about an hour, I had a few foot lengths of single twisted wire and a single foot length of double twisted wire. I didn't want to go for triple twisted wire, cos it would be too wide to fit in any of my toppers.

Managed to get a 5 wrap vertical coil in the iAtty, doesn't quite touch the sides. After a lot of playing around to get it to glow evenly, I tried getting some rayon through it - took about 15 minutes. I'm just glad it's working after all that hassle. To be perfectly honest, it's not that much better than a decent micro coil with rayon, but it can stay put for at least a year

I went into a b&m today and asked the guy there where could I find a sally close by and suddenly another customer overheard and asked me if I was looking for rayon. He then went into his car and gave me some 10 feet of the stuff! vapers are amongst the best people! Thanks!!
Well to the point I'm tired after a good 6 hour drive back home and I won't read a lot onto the thread so...
How much should I use in my drippers compared to regular cotton balls?
Thanks guys!

vapero, I know what you mean... PM'd someone on here that I saw offer someone else a sample, he mailed me about 2' to try out :D I swear it's the drug dealer approach tho, since now that I've tried it I'm hooked and I'll have to buy some :p

As for rayon v.s. cotton in your drippers... Use a bit more. Like enough that if it was cotton you'd be getting choking on the coils and it'd be hard to pull through.

Where did you go, Laredo TX?

One and a half times more is what you start with. It should move in the coil.

Paul you noticed that also... "went to a B&M"; "then took six hour to get home". Good thing he didn't say his "Local B&M"

You want just enough that the rayon stays in full contact with the coils even after it has compacted a bit (which it will do after some use).

But you're wicking drippers, right? That means the wicks are easy to inspect (and even change) as often as you want, no? Just put some in and experiment. 10' is enough for about 400 wicks. :D

Dice your vcore twin double barrel is for sure a winner. Haven't tried it yet. I was referring to horizontal coils.

Well, horizontal same thing holds true but it's through the coil instead of around the coil, everything else still applies. I haven't gone back to horizontal coils on the Russian since I went vertical. Just no way a horz can compare to a vert on the Russian, trust me, have built this puppy almost everyway possible, the iV-twin is just the most total vape satisfaction build. Easiest to re-wick and maintain, best flavor and most vape. Plus wick densities are much more tolerant on the V.

I once believed the consensus that the Russian wasn't suitable for sub ohm vaping, well 0.4 pushed at 5.5 volts is equivalent to a 0.235 ohm build being fired on a mech with no voltage drop. Pretty damn impressive, Just saying. :D

It was definitely a friendly joke...lol.. You've got a wide range of atties and builds you've perfected. I'm sure when rayon runs out of juice at 75w it vaporizes instantly. The ramie is very heat resistant for sure but definatley more complex to figure out.

:D yes, that was understood at time of original reading. Oh yeah, if you hear a micro pop coming from the rba, open up jc or fill it up. That's another thing both Ramie and Rayon have in common, they both respond quickly and precisely to juice control adjustments.

That's probably like 2 weeks straight since you have like 50 attys and mods, you lucky son of a gun. ;) .. since I had rayon I couldn't take the time to get the ramie down, I was spoiled. It does taste like china grass though. I was like I'm smoking grass man! Lol

Only have 10 mods in my current rotation, failed clones stuffed in drawers or pif'd away, do not count. But heck, we've known each other since my Provari days. lmao. With both R's, I look at the wick fibers more as a plumbing project than a wicking one, when I form my wicks I visualize they are micro pipes supplying fluid to a faucet. Always ensuring smooth even transitions along the critical path.

When building I look more at the total setup now, mod and rba specific. Have 3 specific target ohms, 0.18, 0.365, and 0.7 ohms. Those are my three ideal ohms for the mods and rba's I use. I like 0.365 ohms the best for it's versatility. Can fire it on any of my mods and still get a decent vape, but can push it past 80 watts on Max.

I do have one 0.9 ohm build left in the Rose, but it's vaping so well at 30 watts there's no reason to rebuild. Fraking awesome vape, it's good for a month or two, I usually reserve under 0.2 for my drippers, though do have tanks that can handle it, and do. Sometimes it takes a build or two to optimize an rba. Heck, had to build the Rose2 V-twin 3 times just to get it sub optimal, but the Rose is a very precise rba to build. Very unique mounting system. One of the most innovating rba packages I've encountered.

Oh well, rambling now, slept in, just got up and it's the weekend, having my first cup of jo and a great vape or 10

Vape long and Prosper.!!!

OK after about a week of fiddling I have finally got my evod and t3s atomizers down to a science. I use 30 ga wrapped 6 times around a random precision screwdriver that I found. Coil resistance is 1.8 ohms each time which will work for my vv and my stock ego batteries. I do not bunch the coils together as it seemed to burn the wick too easily. From the advice I was given earlier I leave the coils loose and evenly spaced. I then wick with enough rayon to actually move the coil when putting it through. A little primer juice on the tip and on the chimney goes. A few primer puffs and I am off and ready to fire. I have redone all of my heads with huge success. Thanks for everyone's help! I now need to figure out how to properly wick my patriot as I seem to be scorching the wick every time.
