Tea-bag!? Is that similar to the aquarium filter stuff?

It is amazing how much things have changed in such a short amount of time, and how they continue to do so.

Yup I'm a noob!

atrophy,

Funny you mention that I have seen a couple of YouTubies on that. I was think to my self people that used those Chinese fish bubble stones as ceramic wicks never once giving a thought to what it is made out of or with get all upset about Rayon. Go-Figure!!!

Here's a link to a compilation post showing densities and the video.

Thanks - my wick isn't see though, I'm using about 2.5x the diameter of the coil and I'm not twisting it any more than necessary to get it through the coil. It *is* tight enough that I have to hold a finger against the Provari or it'll fall over as I pull the wick through, so maybe I'm using *too* much. I may try to re-wick when I get off work and just run the chimney for an hour or so to see what the wick is doing.

I still get reduced vapor and 'coil crud' after 3-4 tanks, regardless of cotton or rayon - not sure what I'm doing wrong.

This is with 1/16 or 5/64 coil, between 1.4 - 1.8 ohms, running 10-12 watts on a Provari on the Russian.
I'm a bit behind on my reading, forgive if you've gotten it solved. I had a similar issue initially until I got the wick density figured out. If you're not stretching the wick like JeremyR shows in his video, its pretty easy to use way too much wick than necessary. Just use a lot less. Basically keep reducing until you get a weird metallic taste after initially starting out with everything being good. You've now found the point where the density of the wick after the last of the air between the rayon strands works out (half hour or so after you first wet the wick) is too low and the top of your coil ends up dry which is what produces the metallic or burnt taste. Wick with a bit more than that and you should be seeing all the good things folks are talking about in this thread.

If you use way too much you end up never really wicking any juice to the center of the coil. But rayon wicks so well that just what's in the edge, at the shoulders, is able to provide more than enough juice to keep the entire wick moist enough to prevent really dry hits. But the dryness at the center is what's causing the gunk buildup so quickly. At least it was the case for me.

Sitting down, facing forward.
It's all these newbies I tell ya. Ready to sub-ohm with parallel 22g wire, without knowing how to roll a pyramid tea-bag wick. Sheesh!!

Heck, the real deal is the 14ga single wrap with alpaca fur wicks! 0.02 ohms and 7200 watts off a car battery!

Posting links to both videos I've made. I Will be making a better one very soon with commentary.

Here's a link to the recent tutorial, it's just a hands on video.. This is the right way to do it for me.

-----

Secondary videos not on par with how I wick my coils properly.

Here is a link to the post with the first video I made. It's more of a showing the material. The way I made the wick was not correct. I was trying a different way and it did not turn out well for me.
My First video a bit of a flop-

Here is SuperXdrifter's review & his tutorial is workable but not the method I use

isn't this too little rayon/viscose in the last video???
Last time I had to use my fingernail to support the coil not to bend when treading the viscose. And I'm loving the final result

slavkov,

I am not sure which vid you are referring to but I have to use my fingernails to support the coil against the friction of the Rayon also but I am using 30 gauge Kanthal.

I used that method with my dripper and the current experiment with my Genny and both are working just fine IMHO. Although listening to the chatter I may try going a little lighter the next time I re-wick. God only knows when that might be with the dripper but I may re-wick the Genny today only because I am curious to see what the wick looks like under the coil.

Supporting 30 ga while wicking isn't too much I do the same thing. Not a lot of force but a bit

Tbev,

I don't use a lot of force either. I have to hold the coil with my finger nail mostly when I start to pull from a standstill once the rayon is moving I can usually let go of the coil it is just overcoming that initial friction.

I will still try a little less rayon next time not that I am dissatisfied with my current configuration but more out of curiosity to find the upper and lower extremes of how much wick to use to get a better feel for what would be optimal amount somewhere in the middle of the extremes.

Yes your correct..

As I said the first vid I made was way off that's why I generally don't promote it, and superX video is a good review.

The first link above is the correct way, the recent tutorial. If your using 32g a twisting as in my first video (second posted) may be necessary to keep from damaging the thin coil.

Now I hope i didn't cause any confusion;) . Just trying to pull video posts up.

I was talking about this video - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...avor-saturation-nic-hit-120.html#post13399981

I'm using 0.3 mm kantal (that is around 27 gauge I think) and i had to work hard with my fingernail to secure the coil :)
will check under the hood and report back

I'm using it on my origen with vertical coils so I just pull a conic shape strand trough until I get a bit of tension and stop when I can't get more in, that usually leaves a nice fluff on the top and keeps it from going down. I guess the vertical configuration makes the wick to always be in contact with the coil

This is my AGA-T; 30 GA;ID 2.5 mm; 1.8 Ohms @ 10 watts; four tanks of juice the first tank was HHV Legend which is a NET the other three were clear MntBaker and 1 tank of DIY juices.

The little black specs are splatter from the coil. It doesn't really show but there is a slight buildup of crud on the coil mostly on the side closest to the center post or down stream side of the air flow but nothing like when I was using Silica. I don't normally use this tank except for testing stuff because it is very simple to setup. When I re-wick I will post what it looks like under the coil.

PS - the wick does show that Jelly look that I tried to describe previously. Cotton doesn't do that for me it looks wet but not that clinging wet that Rayon has.
