Maybe I'm all wrong on this but I have a theory, forgive me if this has already been mentioned. Something I've noticed several times now is the darkening of juice in a tank atomizer/clearomizer can be an indicator for the rayon wick tails being too thick. Now, on attys that allow easy access to the rayon wick and coil, like a Kraken, etc. it's easy to see how the tails are performing by looking at the color of the rayon wick in the coil and just outside the coil (dark rayon wick = too thick). But on attys like a Kayfun, etc. where access to the rayon wick and coils isn't that easy, the tell-tale darkening of the juice is saying the tails are too thick, causing the juice to be pulled back out of the coils. But when there's no darkening of the juice it seems that the tails are just about right and the build seems to last longer with better flavor and overall better performance.

You've got it cobalt - exactly right.

We've said it over and over again. But with so many new users it always needs to be said again. Glad you figured it out.

Trim for the win.

Well, after vaping all day on a KFL + clone, I am happy to report that I got the build right on my first try. Not a single issue with the wicking or flavor. Not a single dry hit or burning taste. In fact, the flavor seems more pronounced, or deeper/layered, than KGD cotton. Consistent. To this day, half of my cotton builds end up with dry hits, and I've been using cotton and KGD now for a good year.

So, I'm pretty well sold on rayon. Fantastic out of the box (with the helpful tutorials in this thread, of course).

I saw a video where a guy compared rayon, organic cotton balls, hemp and Japanese cotton. The Japanese cotton soaked up pure VG better than rayon but the rayon lasted a bit longer for everyday use. Organic cotton balls came in last and never fully soaked up the VG and hemp was 3rd.

Overall I may try rayon one day but I love my Japanese cotton. But if you're on a budget and don't feel there are many health risks with rayon, it seems to be a pretty good wick.

This sounds like the [not so good] comparison from PBusardo on YouTube. I have, basically, nothing but issues with that comparison... but yeah.

I sure don't think there are many health risks with Rayon... it's made out of the same thing as the main constituent of cotton. You can even make Rayon from cotton. Cotton is basically cellulose (90%+), Rayon IS cellulose.

Yea that's the video I was thinking of. I don't think there are many health risks with rayon but I know there are some people who do. I want to try it because of how long it lasts and the price for it but I do like using Japanese cotton. Just having those rectangle sheets calms me for some reason haha. So when I get some I'll probably alternate between them.

If you get a dry hit with rayon does it have any less of a bad taste?

Yes... depends on all variables, but normally the vape just heats up and then stops... the purer the cellulose the higher the temp required to burn it :)

When its wicked right you will see the entire wick actually being dry when you start to notice the vapor dropping off.

DNA40 + Rayon = a match made in heaven!

Twisted flat .4mm Kanthal / 32awg Ni200 @ .14ohm dual spaced coils in a small chamber Fogger at 30watts is the best Boba's Bounty has ever tasted, and the wicks have steamed through 35ish ml of juice so far, with no end in sight! The DNA40 chip is performing exactly as I hoped, and Rayon seems to be it's best friend!

What a great time to be a vaper

Totally agree! I love my DNA40s.

I get mine free from where I get my haircut - I just ask nicely for a yard of it :) It's the stuff they use when they do perms to keep the liquid from dripping down the neck. They probably know it as cotton rope - at least that's what I call it when I ask for some.

Rsunderl,

You have to be careful they do make it in cotton and rayon. There are several of us that didn't pay attention to the box (which all look alike) and got cotton instead of rayon.

I was going to say pretty much the same thing...

There are 4 different boxes that I know of.

44130 - 40 feet
44060 - 500 feet
44043 - 3 lb box (900 feet)
44050 - 1200 feet

Just make sure it says 100% rayon on the box as the boxes that contain 100% cotton look identical.

I just wanted to stop in and give you guys a big thanks for this thread. I found it a long time ago and watched it progress from the start, even when Jeremy was near talking to himself at the beginning lol! I wasn't an active member then though. As more information came in, and more folks began trying, I wanted to join the bandwagon. But I was hesitant until a solid source was established. Once the Sally's cellucotton was found and confirmed, I jumped in. Bought the 500' rope and have been using it since. Stopped the kgd (was a pain to find anyway), and have been promoting rayon cellucotton with free samples to any Vape builder I met. I now have about 20' left from that box and all my family and friend vapers use it. Thanks for all ground work you guys, and especially for Jeremy - just kept on reporting and researching even when he thought no one was with him. And as many have said, bottom feeding and rayon are really a perfect combo. My Reo loves rayon.

So I picked up a new BVC coil for my nautilus mini along with my twice-a-month juice supply. After a few hits from the new coil I wound up tearing it apart and rebuilding it with rayon. Now I'm FAR from an expert, but I gotta say that rayon wick on a rebuild is MUCH better than even stock coils!

P.S. Merry Christmas everyone!
