I am not sure if anyone has come across this but recently I have been doing twisted 32 coils in a variety of small chamber atty's with Rayon and found that after wrapping and test firing them the coils shrink a bit, you can actually see it 1st fire. I thought this may be of interest due to having to get rayon tighter in coil. I think this may have something to do with people saying wick seems to be breaking in. I have been watching this on the last couple of dripper coils i did and after a short time ,wick that i thought was to little or lose in coils appears to be much tighter than initial build. I have only seen on twisted 32 as i havent tried on larger gauge yet.
Just my input and 2 cents

Coils most the time contract closer together on Initial firings. I always dry fire a coil multiple times and heavily glow it. Each time I insert the mandrel when I let off while its glowing. This sets the shape. I may do this 5-10 times and by the last a long glow at the highest power will not change the coil. It will remain after that.

Rayon does reduce in size for the first 3-4 ml. When density is spot on it will have no taste break in and will not loose contact after the reduction.

OK guys here's a good example of how you get gunking with rayon. By wicking it too tight... Now I've done this many times before to test. Going too tight will lead to gunk because its not wicking as fast into the coil.

Now the coil, power, and juice are exactly the same as my last which went 180ml with correct density.

This wick was super tight. Took about a half a day for the woody rayon taste to go away. Tight wick is also slightly muted which worsens as gunk develops.

This is the coil at about 45ml. There is gunk forming in the center due to the choking effect.

If your density is too high, the longer it takes for the woody taste to go away the tighter you have gone... Ideally the threshold of taste breaking will be about 5 hits or youve gone too far over and longevity will suffer.

Sitting down, facing forward.
The replacement credit card came in the mail today, so I pulled the trigger on a drill press. I did add a few things, like a cross slide vice (I hope it fits under the chuck, LOL) and I know I'll be taking that apart, filing and polishing before I use it. I'll be building at least two, maybe three, DNA40 mods in the near future so it seems to be the thing to do. (gotta justify it somehow)

There you go, destroying that myth again, AMD. An automatic in an 18 wheeler? Perish the thought!

(I've herded 18 wheelers, too, and would have killed for an auto....too much shifting in the traffic around here!)

Out of curiosity, have you seen an improvement in miles per gallon with the auto versus a manual? They are supposedly more efficient.

I hear you.

No, unfortunately for me, every new truck I've had - had worse MPG then the previous one.

1998 Volvo VNL 770, Detroit Series 60 500 hp and 18 speed Eton-Fuller manual transmission -- 7 - 8 MPG
2004 Volvo VNL 780, Cummins ISX with EGR 500 hp 10 speed Eton-Fuller manual transmission - 6 - 7 MPG.
2007 Volvo VNL 780, Volvo D13 480 hp EGR 12 speed Meritor automatic transmission - 5 - 6 MPG.
2010 International ProStar, Cummins ISX 500 HP, EGR and CARB filter, 10 speed Eton-Fuller automatic. - 4.5 - 5 MPG

But then again, I haul cars. Not aerodynamic at all.

Ya-But, if you took half of your Vaping gear out of the cab your might gain a couple of miles per gallon.

Now imagine the irony if your truck broke down with a full load on the trailer :D.

Well, it's official.

After 36h testing, the best vape 2015 for me is:

Erlp nano + rayon double insertion + ni200 tempered coil at 0.14 Ohms set at 392F on a Dna 40

Consistent, satisfying and just a joy to vape.

I'm happy and I'm done. I don't need more.
:D :D

Tony, it is too early in the year to see such a pronouncement. And, given your track record, I doubly don't believe it. :D

Lol... Maybe a little too soon but it has been a great couple of days vaping like no tomorrow :D

But you're probably right... I still can't sleep well thinking about those ugly scratch marks my machinist left on my mod. I need to do another one so it will be perfect ;)
till tomorrow :)
The night is still a child :D

Well, I took a cue from the latest round of posts on rayon density and upped the amount of rayon I use, with longevity in mine (I've been gettingdry hits with a fresh battery after a few days, maybe a week, of 5ml/day).

Definitely had the break-in taste, but unfortunately for a bit longer than 5 hits, though I don't recall how many. Now seeing Jeremy's post on the 5 break-in hits, I'm a little disappointed. I had planned to enter the 100ml club by early February (at 5ml/day, I'd only need 3 weeks, so around February 7 or so).

Fortunately, now that I use 1 mod and 1 atty (SMPL + Stillare @ 0.28 ohms) and predictably vape around 5ml/day, it's very easy to figure out when I'll enter the club. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it'll be these wicks. I can see the coils getting gunkier than they were with less rayon, but it is going on around 40 ml now, probably longer than before.

I'll make it, I swear!

So, was bored and wanted to try something new since I had seen it here.

Packed the rayon in as best I could, and there were a lot of stray fibers, so I wet everything down with liquid and then using tweezers packed the fibers in even more. Used about 1/4 width of the rope per side.

Works well, but my lazy side tends to think I won't put the effort into doing it this way again.

Sounds like me after I wasted some time I'll never see again making a vertical coil Kanger Evod-type head. Had to try it but it offered absolutely nothing that a normal horizontal coil does in much less time/hassle. That's what I get for reading posts that are filled with testimonies saying how fabulous this was- probably made mostly by people who never made one in their life.

BTW, in your sig line the link above your folding@home banner has been blocked... makes me curious to know what it was.

I'm really enjoying some of the latest tanks that have come out- KFv4 and the Aqua are both pretty tasty. I also still enjoy my Kraken but it is a bit of a hassle to wick compared to the others. Still, it gets constant use. Actually, ALL my stuff still gets used, right down to my first Evod! At some point I'm sure I'll start to 'retire' some of my equipment, but not yet!

As fast as new equipment drops, keeping up is a bit of a chore. I wonder if we'll look back on these days as being the golden age of vaping?
