In this Gene Wilder - Marty Feldman movie of 1975, Gene's character is asked about his brother Sherlock and in annoynance he says, "It is pronounced 'Sheer Luck'!" I laughed a lot at that and have never forgotten it being a big Sherluck Holmes fan. So many years ago adopted the name as my on line personality.

My picture was first of John Wayne in front of an American flag. 1) Because I am a John Wayne fan and 2) at the time of joining ECF it was the only pic I had on my computer worth a damn. Since I looked for and found several of Steve McQueen who I am also a fan of.

OK, I get my screen name from an old role playing persona I used to use in the Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval recreation group. I was Daniel of Leaford, and Leaford was a tiny village I found on a 13th century map of England. Also, Maid Marion's family name in the BBC TV Robin of Sherwood.

My geek roots are showing, aren't they? ;) :p:lol:

ANd my avatar is a Dead Fred Pen holder that just made me laugh.

My artist friend, Nui, who made my Leaford Lanyards for me, made me a new logo for my blog with a cartooney version of Dead Fred. I like it but I have to change it. Smoking Dead Fred works as an everyman. An ironic statement on what e-cigs have saved us from. Darkly humorous. Once you put a face on Fred, though, he's just a dead guy. :(

See for yourself:

I live and breathe reality. Our son has been deployed three times. Twice to Iraq and once to Afganistan. His Stryker has been blown out from under him and he's been in many firefights and has lost men he has commanded. He is 23. We are hoping to keep him from being deployed a 4th time (but you know, being a Marine, he'll go if he has to). One nephew leaves in late Jan. Another is a medic on lifeflights. They are following in their fathers' footsteps, as I also followed in those of my brothers, fathers and uncles. And so I am very politically conscious and aware of world events, especially as they pertain to the military and that is why my avatar is military-themed.

In the avatar picture, the pup is actually sleeping cuddled up against an ammo box. This picture was taken in Iraq. Dogs are viewed as 'unclean' under Sharia law, and so most end up abused, starved and killed. To contrast, Americans think dogs are our 'best friends' and our troops will give up their dinner so a pup has something to eat. go figure. Our guys and gals aren't officially supposed to have pets when in theatre, but I can tell you, there's nothing like the breath of a wetnosed puppy or the presence of a dog sleeping next to you in your tent, to help ground one back to who they are inside, (dogs are funny like that) and the guys/gals usually have one or two rescues hanging around at any given time if they can get away with it. The dogs seem to realize that our guys are the good guys and quickly bond with them, alerting them to, and in some cases even agressively protecting our guys and gals from, the bad guys.

Operation Baghdad Pups, a project of the SPCA, is a great charity to support. Not only do they provide rabies vaccinations and other vet care in the field, they assist in getting the dogs (and kittykats!) back stateside to reunite with their soldier 'dads' and 'moms', or, sometimes, to the families of fallen soldiers. Here's their link to learn more; Helping The Troops

the forumname TaketheRedPill is a play on The matrix/ Jefferson airplane's 'White Rabbit' reference and especially on Obama's speeches telling people to take the blue pill instead of the red pill when it comes to "obamacare" (and other issues) . The first time he talked about red and blue pills, I said to myself, oh boy! the Matrix guys are going to have a field day with this! and they have :) And then there's the hookah-smoking caterpiller sitting next to a tobacco flower from Alice in Wonderland that's in the lyrics of White Rabbit.

OT- Please take a moment of your day today in memorandium for the 12 soldiers murdered and the 37 injured at Fort Hood this afternoon in a premeditated terrorist act by lowlife sleeper jihaddist and Darwin Award recipient Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan (obviously Swedish, right???) , and please pray for the families ( or light a candle) if you're so inclined.

Mine is somewhat similar to Crashtestjeep's.

Back in the mid 80's I was in a serious car accident. I literally had my nose ripped right off my face when I fell asleep at the wheel, hit a car parked on the side of the road, became fused at the bumper and then rolled forward another 100' knocking down a tree and 2 mailboxes. It was estimated I was going well over 50mph when I first hit but there are no skid marks to prove it.

Anyway, I was in the hospital for the re-attachment of my nose and at the same time Opus, the comic strip character from Bloom County, was having liposuction done on his nose. Instantly my friends made the correlation and I have been Opus since. The Croukus part comes from his band stage name. He played rhythm tuba in Billy and the Boingers and also in Deathtongue.

Me and an old gamer friend were trying to come up with a unique username for myself, and were just throwing out made up words.

We came to the conlusion of "Teranox"

People kept calling me tera for short, and i started to get annoyed, lol. So i shortened it to rannox.

And now I use it for its uniqueness in everything including my business name "Rannox Design"

I started playing Dungeons and Dragons when I was in Elementary School, and Darme'en was one of my most memorable characters. most website won't allow the ' in the name, so I just leave it out...and it is pronouced Dar me en, not dar mean ;)

My gaming friends have called me Darme'en since middle school, and I have carried it with me.

I also started writing a fantasy/adventure book with Darme'en as the main character.

And my avatar is....well...me! LOL

My first name (Jerry) and my Ham Radio Callsign suffix (RM). When I am on the radio and there is another ham there who is also named Jerry, I am called JerryRM, to avoid confusion. I liked it and started using JerryRM or just RM, in e-mails to my ham friends. Since there are other Jerrys on the forum, it just seemed logical to me to use JerryRM.

The Avatar is a painting of Gandalf, from Lord of the Rings. I thought about using Smigel, but I see that it is already taken! lol.

--... ...-- (that's "73" in morse code and means "Best Wishes" in ham radio talk).
