I can't wrap my brain around why they wouldn't leak! DUH...sorry!

I think it is something to do with capillary like with the old beer glass trick?
I think it goes like this put a piece of paper on top of a full glass beer / water whatever turn upside down and slide away paper it remains in glass why?? Its all about air pressure I think...

Dont try this at home or with someone elses pint and I may be wrong all together

Heya folks.

Does anyone know of a UK supplier for the molding product?

the closest I can find is this:

Edit: I can't do links yet.
it's "hard silicone putty"
on site restorationsupplies . co . uk

I have requested the MSDS from the website, but am not 100% sure what I'm looking for.

Searches for "Food-safe silicone putty UK" have been spectacularly unhelpful (e.g. this thread is a first-page result!)

Any advice?

thanks

M.

Ok I'm only 24 pages into this thread and need to take a reading break :)

Why bother adding mesh etc to make it more sturdy? I'd think you would want to use the puddy to perfect the design to a specific atty model. Then take that and use it as a mold to create a stainless steel or ceramic plug. That way it's made from a permanent 'trusted' material...and marketable ;)

Hi mate

Yes it's abit frustrating trying to find all these goods in the UK that are suggested / quoted by our American Cousins

but thats part of the fun ain-it!!! .........I managed to get the blue foam,,

But as for the moldy-old-doe...but no luck as yet...

I might try the food safe silicone?... let it set in a cart then shape it after But have been to busy googling all this other stuff???

Shows an active mind though  Remember UK is a fraction the size of the USA... (Storewise).... Where all ours inventors / inventions now live :)

oh! and BTW England is not part of France as someone asked me the other day

best of luck

That's $35 USD delivered. That's more than picking it up at the store here, but doesn't sound too bad if you end up using it all for thousands of plugs.

Yeah right, thousands of plugs, I only want one maybe...:p

If I lived in the USA I wouldn't have a problem getting it locally.. as you have more outlets...

Here in the UK.. thats like England. Wales. Scotland.& Northern Ireland..Not France ...
we are still in the dark ages.. We still live in caves here in parts :)

If you mention to, say the neighbours,, I had a vape last night or I'm a vaper most people think you either have a lisp or you have had your head draped in a towel over a hot bowl of Vicks vapour chest rub... hehe

Like, we dont even have, Radio Shack, No Woolworths now either...went skint after 60 odd years (Northern Rock sucks).... etc we have alternatives but most of them dont stock the stuff you can get easy...
So to find a uk shop that sells and ships this magic dough is a miracle and also it was in answer to Mockingbird who also lives UK

The only problem with that is all attys vary so there needs to be something pliable to account for that...IMO.

The more I use these the more it seem like the atts make more of a difference than the plugs. I use two flavors on two different attys and the one kept wanting to flood a little and the other was fine. So I switched the plugs and it made no difference. I switched the juice...no difference. So my conclusion is some of it depends on how they made the atty. Some you can look down in and see the silica glass wick and some you can barely see any. I just dont think ANY plugs or foam will be able to work well with the way these things are designed. You start capillary action you need to regulate it and stop it at times...with carts and attys on on all the time. We need a better mousetrap.

Oh and yes the mesh is to reinforce it so the plug can be thinner and hollowed out more to take more juice in the cart.

I just spent two hours driving around looking for this stuff! I went to a large local place, then Hobby Lobby which sold the Amazing products but no Mold Putty, then finally Michaels. I picked up the putty and Active Wire Mesh just in case. The nice woman who checked me out rang up a coupon so that both only cost me $11 :) Couldn't find small tubing there or the pet store. Might use one of the 169 cocktail straws I have left from the straw mod.

Does anyone have decent plans for making your own attys? I know Carlos is known for having a great home made ver, but I haven't seen anything where he gave his secrets. If you were to make your own atty you could just wick directly from the source, I guess you would end up with a Juice Box then huh?

My first attempt didn't go very well(flooded), but at least I learned from it. I think you are right that the atty is too much of a variable. Below is the process I'm working on right now that may remedy that.

  • Fill a cart with putty and insert into an atty
  • Mark the atty and cart so they can be matched up exactly later
  • Let sit for about 20m and remove the cart
  • Take mold out of the cart and full Cure
  • Use that mold to mark another
  • Then use that last mold as a mold for new inserts so that you can put the tubing in etc

It sounds like a lot of work, but at the end I should have an atty and a cart that marry perfectly...Right? Then the only variable should be the size of the feed and air lines. I'm a mod n00b so I could be completely off track

Yes yellow straw, 4 plugs per mold, Yes no need for vent... you catch on quick;)

Hopefully I'm picking up a thing or 2 after reading 30+ pages on this thread.

I'm just trying to find a decent mod to make refilling for me and my wife easier. I've tried the silicon cap one you first started, but I can't get the cuts accurate enough with my hobby knife to stop leaking around the edges. But this thread in combination with you're first ZFM look promising.

What was that about someone mentioning a custom atty? Has that been done? I had thought about tearing apart a humidifier to see how that transducer works. Did someone beat me to it?

Here are the plugs Ive been doing.. SFY ZFM style... I make a solid plug then make shavings and punching large holes and use a straw to hold them up at the top... they been working flawless and beleave it or not even with the giant holes they do not leak.

How does this work on HV mods?
