Seriously though every human activity has it's own lingo really.

I don't see why vaping should be any different.

Also the atomizer comment i think is the most irrelevant. There are numerous kinds to be covered by one word.

This is the dialog that has grown with the world of vaping sure some of it silly and not everyone uses all of the words. However we should use what we think fits, and let's not change that to meet some silly "fit in" logic. vaping is it's own thing entirely separate from smoking. Plus changing a few terms will not stop Big T and Big P's chase for the bucks.

Whatever happened to the days when threadjacking was entertaining.

Not going back to read the OP but -

We don't inhale smoke. We inhale vapor. Do you have a better word than vape?

Atomizer does encompass all delivery devices.

Analog is ridiculous but it is ingrained in vaping lexicon.

One of your suggestions is e-cigarette liquid. That is what e-liquid means.

First came batteries that would lose voltage as the battery was depleted. Then came regulated voltage, as in it always put out the same voltage. Then came variable regulated voltage. I don't see the problem with dropping the word regulated for the sake of simplicity. Oh wait, you are complaining because you want simplicity. I guess we should go back to variable regulated voltage?

Get off your lawn? What you did is the equivalent to going to my neighbor's house, telling his lawn service how to take care of the lawn, and yelled at me to get off "your" lawn.

Savoir-Faire is everywhere!
I for one would like to offer my sincerest thanks to the Mike fella for providing a thread that has kept me chuckling during my morning coffee and vape.

17 pages, almost 170 responses, well shaken tree.

One thing that does bother me about this thread and the responses generated though, I don't get the Melvin thing )-:

Easy, I single-handedly changed the lingo from e-liquid or juice to Melvin. Everyone complains about e-liquid or juice (joose) but no one has complained about Melvin...lol

No no no, don't go there ...

It's not just you! No-one really understands the Melvin thingy :matrix:

One is not meant to "understand" Melvin. One merely ACCEPTS Melvin.

*looks all wise and mysterious and junk*

... comes in carrying a tray with cups of nice strong German coffee .. and a little bottle of Vanilla Custard Melvin - my favorite - care to try some?

Hey, "Melvin" sure is nice! :) Even though I am a foreigner, that word rolls right off my tongue. I think you've come up with something nice there :)

at the rate this thread grew ... I think "Melvin" might stick

I'm vaping some "Strawberry Melvin" that came in today :vapor:

Nope, hubby is suspicious enough with all my activities. If I start talking about Melvin all the time he's going to end up blowing a gasket... Come to think of it though, that means I get the life insurance, and then I can spend it on... Melvin!!! :sneaky::lol:

@CJLaity:
OP stands for "Original Poster" = the person who opened the thread

And a nice thread it is indeed. It has brought us:

... does "mod' mean? Perhaps it at one time meant modified. But, if you can buy a "mod" off the shelf, it's not modified, is it? Just call it a battery. Maybe it's fancy. It doesn't matter, it's a battery (holder).

Lol, I kinda like this one line. I remember when I first started vaping I wondered what that was. It took me a while to figure out that it meant Modifying a small flashlight to an e-cig. I guess that term just stuck with with any device that was made for a bigger battery and not resembling a cigalike or whatever you want to call them. Even now if you look at youtube or whatever and someone tries to explain what a mod is, the closest they will come to saying modified is modded. I guess that's a word that Webster forgot to put in the dictionary. But I think Emmanuel Lewis is dead now, so it will never be in the dictionary.

With that said, there are a lot of terms that really have nothing to do with what you are saying. For example, I hate when people send me an email stating that they are "Reaching out to me". IMO, if you are a girl, if I'm reaching out to you I'm probably trying to touch you somewhere special (if you know what I mean). And if you are a guy, I might be reaching out to you to shake your hand or give you a fist bump if the Niners just scored. But if I am reaching out to you, I'm definitely not asking for your help unless I am drowning and you are holding a stick in your hand.
I also hate it when people email me and say that they want to "Connect" with me. Really??? Why would I want to connect with you unless we are going to have sex? If you want to meet with me, then just say so. And if we do meet we are not going to have sex. Opps, I mean connect.

Oh, and lastly. Even if you are a master of the English language. If you are not hip in the business world of communication or the world of vaping, you might be totally confused with some of the terminology.

"Vaping." OK, I understand the desire to differentiate from smoking tobacco, I really do. But please understand that "vaping" is likely to convey (illegal) drug connotations to the general public, right or wrong. I can't pretend to have come up with something better, but "smoking alternative" or "vapor smoking" is probably better received, whether it looks like a cigarette or not.

...

"Cartos." "Attos." "Clearos." "Glassos." etc. They're all atomizers/vaporizers (pick a term). I get the whole custom/differentiation thing, but lose the cuteness and use one all encompassing term to refer to this part. Groucho, Harpo, Chico, and Zeppo are OK.

... does "mod' mean? Perhaps it at one time meant modified. But, if you can buy a "mod" off the shelf, it's not modified, is it? Just call it a battery. Maybe it's fancy. It doesn't matter, it's a battery (holder).

I doubt the general public has any prior relationship with the word vaping. It's a niche within a culture most people have no contact with.

We need terms to differentiate cartos from clearos. Or we'd go "the atomizer in a metal tube with stuffing" or "the kind with a glass tank and the wick at the bottom." New concepts e need new words. Else we would go around calling everything UGH?, ARRR! and occasionally OOWWW?!.

Mod? Strange term indeed. Not what most people think of as something called mod. However, it's nice and short. Makes things simple. It's not a modified something. It's not a modifiable something. Maybe it's a battery tube that plays modern jazz? Probably not. It's just a mod. Could just as well have been an UGH or an ARRRR.

I'm puzzled you don't peeve about atomizer. I had a beef with that one at first ;)
