Not to be rude, but this is one thing I don't like about some ex-smoking vapers. Who cares how many cigs or packs you smoked a day and for how long? A smoker is a smoker, whether they smoke 5 a day or a pack a day. It's not a pissing match. Congratulations, you smoked way more cigarettes than that person! Who's the better person? Just my opinion.
No, sorry, the number of cigarettes someone smoked per day and for how many years they did so correlates strongly with how addicted/habituated they were.

Bottom line, you can quit smoking but it never really quits you. Ecigs give me a better chance of succeeding and I don't think about a cigarette on a daily, hourly or minute basis.
It has quit me. I know for a fact that I could have a cigarette and not revert back to smoking. How many cold-turkey quitters are in that position?

Give him this:
Roly Gate: The problem is not tobacco, the problem is smoking it. There is no difference to tea in this regard. Tea contains nicotine and you can smoke it to obtain the nicotine (as they do in prisons when tobacco is barred). By a quirk of history we ended up drinking tea not smoking it. If we had instead smoked tea, exactly the same issues would be present as for smoked tobacco. The same diseases, the same commercialisation, the same protection of smoking by pharma.
A am sorry, but it is a wrong statement.

Content of nicotine in dried tea is 0 – 0.9 mg/kg, i.e. 0.001mg/g at maximum.
http://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/efsajournal/doc/2098.pdf

Nicotin “ constitutes approximately 0.6–3.0% of the dry weight of tobacco”
Nicotine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For simple calculations lets keep in on a low side - 1%, and it means 10mg/g.

So, tobacco has so much more nicotine than tea that any attempt to compare them will make people laugh (at best).

Please, do not use such comparisons, they may be flashy, but they make vaping community look bad.

P.S.
By the way, there is nothing new in smoking tea (China). And today it is gaining some popularity (unfortunately).

The above in bold by me. I'm afraid to even try one cigarette. Also, if you didn't have vaping, would you be able to make that claim? I could possibly have one cigarette but if I didn't have the ecig to immediately fall back on, I could very easily see myself going back to smoking full time.....in a very short period of time.

Every failed quit attempt of mine over the years was derailed because the addiction center in my brain tricked me into believing I could "just have one". Like you, I will not take that risk this time around.

I'm really annoyed right now. A friend posted an article about ecigs not being as safe as we think, then said they don't help you quit. I told him they had indeed helped me as well as other friends of ours quit smoking. He told me because you are still using hand to mouth motoring that is an addiction and I should just stop all together. Cold turkey worked for him, it should for everyone, even me, who has done 1+ years of cold turkey 3 times and always went back to cigs.

I don't think it's worth calling him out, but his argument has me really miffed, because, under that line of reasoning, he, a recovering alcoholic, should just stop all drinking(soda, water, etc.)-that's just continuing his compulsive hand to mouth addiction. Am I out of line with that thought process?

I guess, ultimately, I'm sick of being demonized. I made a choice to do something healthier and I still end up being the horrible person for making a better choice for myself and those around me. Rant over.

Can you Post a link to the Article?

A smoker is a smoker. You say "No" like I'm wrong or something. The op said "Dig a little deeper and find that they "went cold turkey" after smoking 5-10 cigarettes a day for 2-3 years. hah, you were'nt even really a smoker. Bust a 30+ year, pack a day+ habit then get back to me." is something a person who is for some reason proud of how much they smoked and hold that above someone who doesn't smoke as much would say. That's what I would consider a douche.

I also no that to be true for myself. I have experimented after I had vaped for a while. It was disgusting and I had no desire to smoke another one.

I am not a smoker anymore but I am not really a 'non-smoker' either which implies acting against something and so at the same time implicates me with the act. I am a Vaper. As such there is a segment of society which is critical of me―as a vaper, not as an ex-smoker who is only pretending to have quit. At least that is what I would like. In reality people disdain me because I am a smoker in disguise. There is nothing I can do about this so I just accept it and behave accordingly. I am not going to change the perception just by being offended at a faulty characterization. There are lots of people I don't like for very petty reasons so I am no paragon of virtue anyway.

This. One of my best friends is a 'Cold Turkey Nazi' and demonizes PV's and vaporizing as often as he can. It drives me crazy, but I've come to realize that there is no changing what he thinks. Obviously, because he quit cold turkey the world could and should do the same.

A city here in Colorado, one of the states that just legalized a certain illicit substance mind you, just outright banned PV's in public places. Seriously, that is completely ludicrous. Especially when cigarettes aren't even banned there. The worst part? We, as Coloradans, didn't even get a say in the matter. A group of a few decided that it's best for the rest that they were banned.

Meanwhile in a neighboring state (Utah) the the ban is STATE WIDE
The only public building it is legal to vape in is a B&M, and 75% of their sales must be e-cig related.

Tired of being demonized... ah... embrace it!!

Add some black t-shirts with skulls and cross-bones on them to your wardrobe. Throw a little swagger in your walk... Wear your sunglasses indoors and after dark!! Vape proud and loud!! Well... where allowed.

I know... sounds silly. But the point is... don't let other's opinions drag you down. Be the individual you are and express it happily and freely!!

[sarcasam font] Obviously you are being righteously demonized, ... I mean think of THE CHILDREN. Before you quit, you were keeping a certain number of cigarettes from possibly falling into the hands of children, by burning them up and inhaling the smoke. Now, all those cigarettes can now fall into the hands of innocent children. You don't hate children do you? [/sarcasm font]

The above in bold by me. I'm afraid to even try one cigarette.
About 3 months in, an old friend who I hadn't seen in years and who was (is?) still smoking stopped by my house for a while. I was vaping away. After a while, he said: "I guess I can't smoke in your house anymore?" "Nope". "Well then I'm going outside for a cigarette". I was curious how my body would react to one, so I had one with him. I rather enjoyed it at first, but by the time I got half way through it, it started irritating my bronchial tubes and I felt my chest tightening up, and by the time I was 3/4 though it, I put it out.

You see when I started vaping, I never made an actual decision to "quit smoking". I started vaping to see how much of my 2 PAD habit I could replace with vaping. It took me less than a week to replace ALL of it.

Also, if you didn't have vaping, would you be able to make that claim?
No. If I didn't have vaping, I would still be smoking. I had pretty much given up on ever quitting more than a decade ago.

I could possibly have one cigarette but if I didn't have the ecig to immediately fall back on, I could very easily see myself going back to smoking full time.....in a very short period of time.
Without vaping, I almost certainly would too. But given the choice between smoking and vaping, I'll vape rather than smoke because vaping gives me the satisfaction I got from smoking without the negative effects smoking was having on my health, and without the odors that were offensive to others.

For my part, I do not read it like that. At all.

From my understanding, it was not about being "proud of smoking more than anyone else".
It was about some self-righteous, cold-turkey quitters feeling way too much proud of themselves, and bragging(*), for having quit "the hard way", in circunstances when maybe it was no so hard after all, because they were in fact smoking very little at the time they finally quit.

Had they tried quitting when they were having 2 PAD's, and maybe the story would have been quite different. THAT was the real issue, in my opinion.

(*) Not only bragging, but putting other people down, for not having the same "self-control" that they believe they have. As if they actually managed to do something out of the ordinary: to quit smoking, when they were already almost NOT smoking

Just point him towards Allison Taylor's terrific blog or print it out and hand it to him. If he then persists with his viewpoint then consider terminating your 'friendship'.

Here's the article. My "friend" isn't the author, just the fool claiming ecigs don't help you quit. I apologize if that was unclear in my OP.

[ http://gizmodo.com/why-e-cigarett...h to know if the cited studies are reputible.

You're right. I kind of took that out of context and sort of put the whole "self-righteous" quitter thing out of my mind. Didn't mean to offend. I apologize.
