E liquids should be treated as medicine in any household. It should be kept in a cool dark place out of the reach of children. You should not drink it, you should only use it as intended, and if you are doing that, then it's unlikely that enough liquid would get into your mouth or you skin for it to be an issue.

So how long until we hear news stories about electronic cigarettes being dangerous because people drink the liquid?

Had a guy in the bar sit down with me recently and inform me that Dr. Oz said one drop of this stuff could kill you! I usually don't like to argue with idiots. I had my bottle of 18 mg juice with me that has a dropper on it. I opened it up, filled the dropper full, stuck out my tongue and squirted the whole thing on my tongue. I then swallowed and took a drink of beer (don't know how they think kids will drink this stuff). I then told him he could sit there and watch me die.

Needless to say, I FELT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! We had a pitcher together.

Nicotine is not proving to be lethal in that 60 mg. range to an adult. Naturally no one wants extensive human testing, but it seems to be at least ten times that amount. Not to mention, that if anything close to an overdose was swallowed, you first reaction would be to heave your insides backwards. You won't keep it there very long.

But do not let this cause you to cease to be cautious. Children and pets are a different matter and can be harmed by much smaller doses. Continue to practice reasonable care, but don't freak out.

We have already heard it......and heard it.....and heard it....and heard it.By the way...eliquid makes ipecac seem like a milk shake. If you did drink it in a volume more than some drops, you would barf your guts out. Even a little can trigger reverse peristalsis in some folks...a few drops can even give you hiccups, a faint echo of this...

i think "most" people are smart enough to not drink it but kids and pets arent and thats why its the users responsibility to keep them some where kids cant get it. but to agree with you it will happen a few times and thos times are going to be BLOWN up on the news

Hopefully it will take long enough before that happens (fingers crossed). How many children and pets have died because of everyday household products that are still legal? They are still legal because in most cases it was an accident or an isolated case of lack of responsibility from the parents. They should mention something about the toxic nature of those liquids when selling a new system, though. All started kits should come with a pamphlet about security and e-liquids, but at the same time I can understand they don't want to scare people off...

The 50mg lethal dose information comes from a very questionable research paper from 1856. More research has been done since that estimates the lethal dose for humans to be in the 500-1000mg range. By the way the lethal dose for nicotine in lab rats has been defined as 50mg per kilo of weight. Hard to believe the same dose that would kill a 1kg rat would also be the same to kill a 70kg human. Anti vaping do gooders like to quote the paper from 1856 because it serves their purpose and ignore the 150 years of research done since that time. On a final note I still wouldn't be bathing in ejuice or drinking it but with proper precautions it is quite safe to work with.

I think there should be a little more concern by everyone on this front, i mean there are a lot of BS stories out there but this is a legit issue (although unlikely to happen by accident unless your really unlucky)

I don't see anyone advocating throwing caution to the wind. By all mean we do need to be reasonably cautious while handling the stuff and in how we store it.

I just don't see a reason to be AFRAID of it.

There was a story a while ago about a female that tried to commit suicide by drinking a full 10ml bottle of e-liquid - SHE FAILED! She didn't die and as mentioned in earlier posts the LD50 for nicotine is a contentious issue with most of the science community unsure if it is accurate (because of the girl trying to commit suicide and failing, it should have been plenty of nicotine to kill her). The OP lives in the same county as me and a while ago someone in Redruth left a bottle of e-liquid out and their dog chewed it, this time it sadly had the desired effect and killed it. Nicotine is a poison and is toxic, as denoted by the skull on the back, treat it as such.

I don't know what your agenda is by this post. However what makes you think that there is a lack of concern on this front? Also there are already stories about kids getting their hands on eliquid left out by adults. It is like with anything else like household chemicals, guns etc... It is up to the parent or adults to keep this stuff out of a child's reach etc.... If this is taken by a child I blame the parent.

I don't think anyone is not concerned about nicotine. This is why we educate ourselves on the use of it, especially if DIYing.

I get the feeling that you are trying to say nobody cares and is going about this willy nilly. Now granted there are some idiots out their trying to create their own weather systems with their clouds (Analogy taken from another poster, got to give him props) but that is just a fraction of the community as a whole, and most do educate themselves on Ohm's laws.

So if your quest for information on this matter is legit, then great, but don't try to make is seem like nobody cares.

Colchicine is a popular treatment for gout. I have a tiny tub of 100 0.5mg tablets, which appears to be a standard prescription. The minimum reported fatal dose is 7mg. That's just one seventh of the tub.

The last time this came up, I did some research. The fatal dose of bleach is around 150ml, or around a sixth of a bottle.

Even if the 1856 nicotine figure is correct, it's still more than a third of a 10ml bottle.

And, as has been said, since the primary symptom of nicotine poisoning is violent vomiting, you won't keep it down.
