Before vaping I tried to quit smoking, few days after I had such a bad cravings that I went and brew the tobacco of 1 cigarette and mixed it with my coffee press, not knowing it was deadly. Took 3 sips and then googled it, thank God I did. Found out it was toxic if consumed directly. But honestly, nothing happened. LOL

This myth was probably started because someone realised that the supposed fatal dose of nicotine was something like five cigarettes, and people smoke that number back to back all the time. So it must only be fatal when drunk, right? The almost certainly correct answer is that the fatal dose is twenty times the supposed amount. Nobody smokes a hundred cigarettes within a few hours.

However the widely used human LD50 estimate of 0.5–1.0 mg/kg was questioned in a 2013 review, in light of several documented cases of humans surviving much higher doses; the 2013 review suggests that the lower limit causing fatal outcomes is 500–1000 mg of ingested nicotine, corresponding to 6.5–13 mg/kg orally.

Don't drink your e-liquid. Vape it. I would handle 100mg/ml nic base with some respect, but what you are vaping is very unlikely to hurt you unless you are on a personal mission to prove Darwin correct.

The ~60mg estimate is false. At this point anyone that is using it is to be classified as a hack at best.
Here is the study: How much nicotine kills a human? Tracing back the generally accepted lethal dose to dubious self-experiments in the nineteenth century

It is actually quite hard to die from relatively low concentrations of nicotine. You get very sick and that limits absorption. You have to encounter very high concentration or do crazy things like inject it, to die from it.

just read your link... good reading.
As far as lethal dose.. its stating 6.5-13 mg per kilogram of weight, since I weigh 210 ( approx 100kg) I would have to consume 650-1300 mg of nicotine to become non functional ;)
in other words 40 ml of 36nic juice all at once...

ata... with this in mind the threat of getting a little dribble of juice in your mouth is no where near enuf to do you in... might make you hiccup, feel a bit throw-uppy, but you wont be making a visit to the morgue....

i did the same in my lap. then my kids started their bickering and i got distracted. finished mixing and went about my day. about an hour or two later noticed my manhood was "warming liquid" temps. a bit scary because of the area, but that's about it.

I bet your "tadpoles" got hyperactive though, would win a competition against any other "tadpoles" :)

Had a guy in the bar sit down with me recently and inform me that Dr. Oz said one drop of this stuff could kill you! I usually don't like to argue with idiots. I had my bottle of 18 mg juice with me that has a dropper on it. I opened it up, filled the dropper full, stuck out my tongue and squirted the whole thing on my tongue. I then swallowed and took a drink of beer (don't know how they think kids will drink this stuff). I then told him he could sit there and watch me die.

Needless to say, I FELT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! We had a pitcher together.

Nicotine is not proving to be lethal in that 60 mg. range to an adult. Naturally no one wants extensive human testing, but it seems to be at least ten times that amount. Not to mention, that if anything close to an overdose was swallowed, you first reaction would be to heave your insides backwards. You won't keep it there very long.

But do not let this cause you to cease to be cautious. Children and pets are a different matter and can be harmed by much smaller doses. Continue to practice reasonable care, but don't freak out.

This is a perfect response, thank you for the info.

30-60mg of nicotine can kill an adult, in one cartridge say you hold 2ml of 18mg e liquid and then there's somehow a crack and it leaks as you inhale then you inhale 2ml of e liquid... You would consume 36mg?

Such a small amount can be lethal, a little scary, for me anyway.

I have had a spill of 10ml of ejuice on my stomach in the past because I was being careless. I had absolutely no ill effects and it sat on my skin for at least 30 seconds before I had a chance to wipe it off.

I have had a lot of eliquid in my mouth and have never gotten sick or felt any abnormal sensation on my skin from it.

In reality, ejuice CAN be dangerous. It is up to you to be responsible. Keep it out of reach of children and be careful while handling it. It isn't much different than when you are handling any other potentially dangerous substance. Sure, you can die while driving in your car. You can accidentally run a stop sign or someone else can and end your life. How do you avoid this? By being careful and responsible. It's really that simple.

How the hell does anyone drink a lethal dose of eliquid by accident?! Sounds about as risky as accidentally eating a lethal dose of analogs. If you died from any of those, it was probably just natural selection doing it's thing lol

Yeah, I agree. If you don't feel you are responsible enough to handle an ecig than don't use it at all. No one is forcing anyone to partake in our Dangerous activity

I think somebody was trollollolling.

I had probably half a ml of 24mg go down my throat last night. A slight burning of the tongue/back of throat was the only discomfort felt.

I do know that some shamanic rituals in South America entail the use of a concentrated extract, ie tea and snuff, from the tobacco species Nicotiana Rustica, also known as mapacho. I've seen them pour, spray, and blow it into the nasal cavity. I've heard of people using it in an enema. Sometimes they put it in a shamanic (psychedelic) brew called Ayahuasca, but only in large amounts if they want to induce vomiting, also known as purging. You've got to get those demons and dark energies out somehow I suppose, lol. Shamanic tourism is a big industry, and rapidly growing, in parts of Brazil and Peru. Once in awhile you hear of an amateur shaman killing a few people from too much mapacho, but it is rare. I'm sure that many circumstances, and mistakes, come together for that to happen. Moral of the story is know what your working with and treat it with respect. If you get a little on you, wash it off. Keep Calm and Vape on!

Perfectly valid question. Many people on ECF have been here a long time and are familiar with vaping, DIY, nicotine, etc. Questions like this may seem out of line, but to newcomers to vaping and ECF questions like this abound. Newbies are full of questions about what we consider the most basic of things. I shudder when I think how ignorant I must have sounded when I first started vaping.

Common sense and the desire to learn with an open mind will guide newcomers in the right direction. Similar answers will help them.
