Top dog if you don't mind me asking what kind of surgery is your little one getting?

Open heart surgery. 3rd stage in treatment of hypoplastic left heart syndrome. This time will be having the fontan procedure.

Sorry if I seem a little rude, I tend to talk and talk about childs condition and trying to keep him anonymous

and its been a while without anyone saying anything. im trying to decide on what to take with me. leaving sunday, talk with surgeon on monday (at i think 1:30pm but not sure, lady i talked to at hospital couldnt access the records, only did the pre-surgery prep talk with parents, which i was able to tell her what she was going to say since this ISNT my first, or even 5th rodeo.). then buttcrack of dawn tuesday (anytime before 8am when im required to be there means i either sleep little, or dont sleep at all. i normally wake up after noon closer to 2pm, and they want us at registration 6am for a 8am surgery). WHY they ask us to be there before the addmitting even opens i have no idea, i guess it because we are from "out of town" that they want us there early in the morning. i don know how many times i tell them that its odd hours for us. last time i told them its like asking them to be somewhere at 1am. when you normally would be asleep, try driving the 2 hours, then waiting in a room for an hour just to sign a single paper then wait in the surgery area for another hour. why not prep BEFORE we get there?! plus i gotts find the best ecig research i can to take and try to sway the hospital administration to allow ecig use inside. they allow inhaler use if doctor prescribed, but no ecig under the tobacco policy. wonder if i can find a vendor who does not use tobacco just so i can argue semantics that its NOT a tobacco product, therefore your argument that its tobacco is irrelevent. they dont say you cant use the patch or gum, so its not a no nicotine use for guests.

and.. im rambling. heading to bed to TRY to sleep. havent been able to sleep much the last week. when i get stressed i get insominia.

tldr, packing ecig stuff, not sure what to take. researching to sway hospital to allow ecig use.

Just a drive-by, but wanted to point out that killer juice has a 99 cent sale on 3 of their juices:

Super Product Blitz 99 Cent Sale!!!!

($0.99 for a 15 ml bottle or multiples, 3 flavors only, Baja, Pina Colada, and Strawberry Kiwi...)
Ordered 10 bottles for cheap (of course I had to shop around and got a couple flavors too.....)

Totally understandable!

Top, take care and little one will go through this one with flying colors. If you have to walk around the block to use your ecig, so be it. May be good to stretch your legs. You can go stealth in one of the public bathrooms. Lots of empty halls in hospitals. I used to sneak cigarettes when I was in the hospital years ago and never got caught. You will be fine. Just don't go blowing big clouds when in stealth mode. Kinda kills the idea of stealth.

My prayers and thoughts will be with you.

Lox. Need your expertise on a common problem. My bathroom door has one of those locks that you turn to lock it. Of course, we can not find the key and the door is locked. Need to get in there. How can I open door. It is not one of the push locks, it turns. Guess I would not make a good burglar since I can not get it open.

Can I go to Home Depot and buy a generic key? We had several keys for all these doors but of course I can not find even one.

No water in kitchen, no cabinets in kitchen, no hardwood in kitchen anymore either. So lots of progress. Most of electrical is done and new potlights are very bright. Glad there will be dimmers going in. Hopefully new hardwood should be started tomorrow. A huge mess, as big as I expected. Contractor is doing a good job so far, even cleans up after himself.

Kitty is semi content staying in master bedroom. She is a 12lb cat and wants to sleep on top of me so that is a bit of a challenge. I woke up this morning with her laying on me and staring at me.

Is there a small hole in the outside knob? If so stick a small straight screwdriver in and turn it.
If not take a pic and post it.

Shari,

Unless it's a really good lock it shouldn't be too hard to pick. Takes a bit of trial and error to get the right feel for it.

Take a look at this for some pretty clear instructions on how to do it.
How To Pick a Lock Using Nothing But Hairpins

Good luck!

Um yeah  good luck with that. The lock cylinder has been rigged in the video to make it extremely easy to be picked. I know locksmiths with 15-20 years experience that can't consistently pick a lock even with commercial picks.
Yes - it is actually possible to pick a lock with hair pins - it's also possible to walk from Argentina to Alaska just depends how fast you want to get there.

Lox,

It totally depends on the quality of the lock. Many locks are made with loose-enough tolerances that they're very easy to pick (well, that was the case about 20 years ago, anyway - perhaps in this new age of CNC and precision automated lathes it's not the case any more). At least back then, almost all the "doorknob-type" locks fell into that category (as well as desk and file-cabinet locks).

A well-made lock is much more difficult to pick (most padlocks and bolt-locks, for example). Perhaps most locks made nowadays are better quality (but also, perhaps, the lock on Shari's bathroom door is 40 years old?)

Edit: I would suggest using a small screwdriver to apply the tension, rather than the second hairpin. I did think the video had a pretty good explanation of what the process is, except that I think the "feel" is more critical than the "sound" - you don't often hear the "clicks" he mentions.

Edit2: A pretty good way to tell whether a lock might be easy to pick is to just try to turn the cylinder with a screwdriver. If it's loose (turns back and forth with some slop) it's likely to be easier; if it doesn't budge, you're in trouble.

Hey I'm just stating my professional (certified master locksmith) opinion based on almost 30 years in the locksmith / door industry. I've consulted on 4 books, been published 5 times in trade journals, and been a consultant for 5 major lock manufacturers' on projects from Saudi Arabia to Chicago to the Pentagon.
So just my :2c:

Hello my darlings,

I've been an absentee for many weeks now and have missed y'all. Caught up only for the last 10 pages or so, and howdy and best wishes to everyone and the things each is going through, like TD with the upcoming child's surgery and Karen trying to come back from not feeling well, and Shari and the contractor blues. HUGS to all of you!

I was absent due to a really demanding operations manager consulting job that I desperately needed, first 4 months of this year. Boss was a bit of a disaster, we worked by remote, and he has thoroughly-diagnosed anger management and other issues. I tried my best to be impervious to his tantrums, especially because I really could never understand what was making him angry. "Stay calm and professional," I said to myself.

Well, in hindsight, I probably should have blown up at him bigger and better than he did, the first time he did it -- because perhaps, my tolerance was giving him "permission" to continue being irrational. Anyhow, by end of April, I finally just agreed with his blow-up and said "yep, fine, I'm packing up the equipment and sending everything back to you now." And did. And now once again dammit I have no income. HATE that part!

Anyway, vaping got me through that rather upsetting crisis without smoking, which is a further testament to the value of vaping for us addicts. An old college friend of mine quit smoking last year without vaping, and in a recent mess involving her mom (she too is an only child) being in the hospital, she has gone back to fulltime smoking.

My point is, no matter whether it's smoking-and-vaping, or vaping-only, VAPING HELPS!

Hi, Marla! Nice to see you again. Sorry to hear about your job issues. I'm hoping everything works out for you and that you managed to stay away from the cigarettes during your stress. I still feel like I'm only 1 cigarette away from smoking full time even though I haven't smoked in almost a year.

Hey, Karen, and anyone else interested in the eRoll. I found a site with the Ovale eMini, which is the exact same as an eRoll but with a different brand name. They have the kits and everything else you might need and the lowest prices I've ever seen for them. They also have a 12% off sale going on until the end of June which makes it even cheaper. Check it out if you're interested.
