There wouldn't have been any battle, I would not have stayed where people were allowed to smoke and I was not allowed to vape. I don't care who it was that asked
I would not have made a scene I would just be gone.

I hear you Andria and generally agree but sometimes you have to pick your battles. I think Top made the right decision for the circumstance he found himself in.

Hi, Claudia! How are you?

Got ya. I just guess I am not in the mood to be confrontational today or in general. But you bring up a point that I never thought of. What were people doing smoking around that child and why would grandparents allow that knowing the child's health conditions. Hmmmm....

Generally when I am at someone else's home I try to follow their rules. If I do not like the rules I do not go there.

Hi Shari, I'm ok sort of, having a really difficult time with my back and sitting at the computer and typing is painful.

I'm never confrontational, I will bend over backwards to avoid any kind of confrontation, I wouldn't have said a word or caused any kind of confrontation, I simply would have left quietly. That was beyond rude of him to have both, asked him not to vape, but even worse that he would consider allowing anyone to smoke in the presence of a sick child. IMHO he was putting his church friends before his family and that is inexcusable. That child already has a severely compromised heart and second hand smoke can only be dangerous to him.

Actually the more I think of this the madder it makes me. Whether I had been asked not to vape or not I would have left the minute someone lit a cigarette anywhere near that child.

Once I realized and thought about it with the child there, I think I agree with you. I was just thinking about the situation with the vaping and Top. Forgot about child. Yeah, I would have left. This is one of the reasons I am kind of glad I do not live near family and do not have to deal with these type of situations. I am also glad I am old and do not need to cater to as many people as I felt I had to when I was younger. Then again, that was one of the reasons I move across the country from my family when I was 21.

I am sorry to hear that your back is still bothering you that much. I was hoping you were on the mend. This weather is not helping matters any.

I am still in the throws of kitchen remodel major drama. Too mentally exhausted to go into it. Hopefully this next week I can get some progress made.

Welcome to the thread, clayU. You are amongst friends. Some are still struggling. Some have finally gotten some only-vape-time under their belts. But even those people remember what it is like to go back and forth for a season. Some will even say that even though they haven't had a smoke in x amount of time, they still have to take "one day at a time."
So don't give up.
Me personally, I have to reset my vape counter after today :/
But never give up.

I start vaping in spring . I have never been able to get away from the cigs . some days are better then others I get down to 5 cigs a day . I started getting this burnt throat feeling . one vendor told me it was because the mix of cigs and vaping . I have tried different vendors, pgvg levels, and nic levels . at the moment I have went back to smoking .

the smoking adults were down wind of everyone else, and the kids ate in the house, but it was more the fact that they were trying to spew knowlege they got from clickbait (misleading/exagerated) news articles (i run a heavy ad blocker, so even if i do happen to click a link to a website that misleads or exagerates to generate money from ad views.. website does not get revenue from me as no ads are ever displayed to me).

tomorrow is the Sweet corn festival! free all you can eat sweet corn (have to stand in line for each 3-4 pieces). wonder if there will be any ecig stands there or not. last year there was one talking about trying to open one in the area, but nothing came of it.then there was anoter site that advertised as a website to play games on (kinda like facebook games) and earn tokens to redeem for gift cards, they did not mention that you have to pay a monthly subscription to play the games, and you are only told of the subscription after you register (free registration.. just cant do anything to earn tokens until you have paid), where they keep emailing you to pay.. grr.

also plan to "accidently" run into my favorite tattoo artist and have him do a quick sketch of what me and gf are thinking of. he recently did a heart tatoo (like, actual organ from body and not the shape) that was unbelieveable (picture at the bottom, it only cost $100 because of the time it took for him to do it and this shop doesnt charge a flat fee per session (they take a percentage of his billable hours instead, which he likes better as he makes more money, and the store is getting almost 3x from his old store with the flat fee))

Hi and welcome to the thread. Glad you found us. Do not get discouraged. Being successful with vaping is a blend of a number of things. And being successful does not mean that you must totally stop smoking. It is many people's goal but just the fact that you can reduce the number of cigarettes or cigars or whatever is a win.

I found, for me, that I needed a specific recipe to successfully put down my cigarettes (2 packs a day for 46 years) for good.

1. A device that was simple and not too big (a Vision Spinner 1300mah) and a topper I could understand how to use and was consistant and reliable (an Evod and a few 510 atomizers).

2. A juice with the right amount of nicotine (started at 18mg and it was not enough; upped it to 24mg and it took away the cravings) and a flavor that 'hit the spot' for me (NLV Gold at 24mg).

3. A strong dose of stubbornness. On more than one occasion I found myself sitting there and vaping with my left hand and holding an unlit cigarette in my right hand for over 20 minutes while I debated with myself on why I did not want that cigarette.

4. A banner at the bottom of my signature here on ECF and frequent posting and talking with other people here, especially in this thread.

5. A true belief that vaping WOULD work for me, even if it was not working great at that particular time.

6. Perseverance. Lots of it.

This recipe has kept me smoke free for over a year now. I do have my moments when I really want a cigarette, especially when I am stressed or bored out of my mind. But it is not worth it to me anymore and I enjoy vaping too much to be tempted or curious about trying a cigarette now.

My thoughts and suggestions on why you are having a sore throat when you get yourself down to a few cigarettes a day are several. First, you need to be drinking lots of WATER, not beer or juice or energy drinks, but water. You need to keep yourself hydrated.

What equipment are you using? Are you sub ohming at 30watts? Try something like a Spinner or MVP at a gentler power like 8 or 9 watts or so and see if that helps.

What juice are you using and at what nicotine level. Cinnamons and menthols and tobaccos (among others) can be harsh on the throat. Try a different flavor. Try a different vendor (some nic bases are more peppery than others). Higher levels of nicotine are harsher and will deliver a bigger throat hit. Try lowering the nic level and/or maybe using a higher VG level. PG can be irritating also at higher levels for some people.

I do not know about the vaping and smoking at the same time since I never did that. I would think if you do both heavily it may be a factor. But many people frequenting this thread smoke and vape so they can answer that better.

what an excellent explanation, dear :thumb:
Mind if I bookmark it to show to new members?

...
And as to the grandfather and child and church members:
Well, I for one can be very confrontational. It is a consequence of the experiences I made in my life. Tough cookies are not born. They are made.
But of course, different strokes for different folks :)

Oh Anja,

I would be honored to have you use my recipe story. This is pretty much what I try to convey to new vapers whether they are having trouble with the smoking or the taste of their juices. There are so many variables that you have to have come together some times.

Today while we were out shopping, vaping thru the parking lot as I was headed toward the dollar store, a guy was all "WOW! look at the size of that e-cigarette!" (my Vamo -- in short mode! -- with a cartotank on top), so I stopped and let him look at it; he asked if it was expensive, fortunately all of it was really cheap, so i told him no! this was $17 (the Vamo) this was $6 (the cartotank) and this was also $6 (the gunmetal matching driptip), and he was really impressed. As I was walking away, he goes "and it's as good as cigarettes?" I said "absolutely! if not even better!" Got a thumbs-up as he got into his truck, so I think a new vaper may have gotten the Good News today!

i just need to vent..

went to grandparents cookout. last several holidays i have taken my PV and vaped outside where i would smoke cigarettes, grandfather found me using an ecig and didnt know what it was. so he asked. i explained and he was ok with it. today, they invited about half of thier small church to show up (who i dont know, and would not have gone if i knew there would be so many people. when i arrived grandfather asked me not to use my ecig. ok. then to find out WHY he asked me not to was some curch members were WAY misinformed and believe the crap they read in news headlines.. and that some of them smoke and feel that ecigs are more dangerous. i was told i cannot use it there, but the church members were allowed to smoke right where we were eating. just ticks me off. i really wanted to walk to the car to get my dripper and VG bottle to blow a huge cloud but decided not to, did not feel like dealing with the drama of it.
Frankly, I would call it a teaching moment and go get my pure vg and lowest ohm cloud build... then bring some hellfire and brimstone the party.

Judge not lest ye be judged... right?

What?!? I understand you not wanting to make a fuss and respect wishes and all but if they were allowed to smoke then that is a whole other story...I would have gotten my gear out and vaped... And explained what was going on!

Clayu welcome welcome killer place here! I have to agree with some of the questions/comments Sheri asked. I am a dual user right now and sometimes my throat hurts if I am using to high of pg. or my ohms are to high on my attys.

Tim I know you had to reset your banner but way to go

Etherealink nice ink!

OK, I have one very massive update to bring but currently I have a disaster from the person I asked to watch the house and take care of the dogs for the week we were gone. And I'm too damn tired to deal with cleaning up this unholy catastrophe.

The short version, dogs did not get taken care of, we now have fleas and the bugs are back...

I had a battery go thermal and destroy a rda and possibly the mod it was on...

Tuesday there is a funeral for my wife's best friend's grandfather...

I just want a nap and to get back in my bulldog, after I reschedule my DOT physical so I am legally allowed to...

Oh no, Etherealink. Are the doggies all right? You need this like a hole in the head right now. I am sorry you came home to a real mess.

Take care of your babies and get yourself some sleep. Sending hugs your way.
Thanks hun, yes the puppies are just fine. A bit less fur, but fleas and stress will do that. Taking tomorrow off to meet my wife's best friend (from school, at least) and get the house back to being a house again.

I would have a few choice words with your friend, the housesitter. But only after a good night's sleep and some reflection. You can also just wait for Karma to kick in. It will keep your blood pressure lower.
