Did you gradually just taper down? If so, how long overall did it take? And how long between "step downs"?

when i started diy juices i lowered myself .5mg each 3 wks or every 3 30ml bottles of juice. its not a big difference but over time you'll see the results it might take you shorter/longer depending on how bad you dont wanna use them anymore

After I started making coils, I remember dropping a strength or 2. Then, when I started sub-ohming, I dropped to 6-8mg almost overnight. My ml/day went up a bit, but overall was taking in less nic. But around that time, I started playing w/ analogs again. Not because I had a craving/needed to, but just false sense of security, as I described in an earlier post. The timing was awful too, because that was right before I came into a stressful season of my life. Before I knew it, 6mg wasn't cutting it anymore, and my smoking increased. I was hooked again. I brought my nic level way back up, but still going back and forth. But making strides. This eRoll w/ WTA seems to be helping. Got a couple batteries ordered on their way. See how things work out after they arrive. But yeah, kinda starting back at the starting point again, but interested in at least getting back to 6-8mg

After almost 6 months of Vaping only Bought 6 oz bag of DIY tobacco this morn. I still had 1/2 box of filter tubes and the stuffer in a drawer. Since 11 am have had 6 cigs. Also been Vaping. Thinking next Payday I am going to order 50 mils of 36mg WTA nicotine solution from Whole E Cig. Its $75. I will add my VapersTek Nic solution and PG/VG to get 150mils of Part WTA 30 mg Juice. Going to try a little stronger then my Usual 24 mg. With those 6 cigs I feel something I am missing from Regular E Liquid. The 6 oz bag of tobacco will use up all of my filter tubes and then I am going to give my stuffing machine away so Don't have half the supplies for DIY Cigs at hand. 150 mils will last me about 1 month.

Where I was going with that, and kinda got myself off-track as I was typing, was that though getting back to full vaping is where my focus should be, I am also looking a little ahead as to where to go and how to proceed once I get there. I think cutting back 0.5mg/month MIGHT work out for me. Just have to wait to get there and see how it goes.

Yeah, WTA has been a help for me, esp while I am going back and forth and not really giving my body a chance to flush out those other alkaloids. I dont vape it non-stop because of the price, but I also find I don't really NEED to vape it non-stop. When I am successfully vaping only, I find that just hitting it here and there when I have a cig craving does help. Between that I just vape on with my nic-only stuff.

do you ever have the desire to just 0nic vape, just for the fun of it, taste flavors, etc, or do you prefer just to lay it all down for good and just walk completely away from it?

Hey, JJ! Very long time no see! I'm so proud of you that you've given up smoking and vaping, too. That's something I can only imagine at this point. I've cut down from the 24mg I started with to 12mg, but I'm still chain vaping as much as before. I haven't noticed any cravings from cutting down, but when you're vaping all the time it's harder to notice. ;) Keep up the good work and don't be a stranger.

Roosterado, what ever possessed you to buy tobacco after six months of vaping only? (sounds like something I'd do ) I've heard tell that it's harder to switch completely to vaping the second time around, (I'm afraid to find out for myself) but I'm sure the WTA will help. Good luck.

Hey everyone I am new to this thread and ECF in general. I've been vaping for about 3 months now. Over that time I haven't quit cigs completly. Not even a total dry spell. The most success I've had is getting down to two or three cigs a day. I've been able to keep it at that low level for about two weeks at a time sometimes more. But here's what I've noticed: vaping success seems to be almost dependent on novelty. When you first start cutting back on cigs is easy, when you get new gear or new juice cutting back is easy, because you've got something new to try out and you're exploring a new corner of the habit of vaping which in a way is more complicated than smoking is. The newness of it keeps you vaping more than you are smoking. However, this gets expensive quick and for a poor college kid I don't want to have to depend on new gear to keep it up. I've heard people on this thread say that they focus on their motivation, which is essential and I am going to work on that for sure. But I am wondering if anyone has noticed the same thing and/or has any comments and experiences they'd like to add on. Does anyone have a way around this, do you find you eventually become settled and satisfied for good with the gear you are using?

-EastSideLove

I agree that novelty is a huge help; when I first started back in Jan/Feb, it was a whole new thing, and it was so amazing how my cigarette consumption just went down and down and down almost without my even noticing, and the vaping began tasting a whole lot better than smoking, and gave me a much better throat hit, too. My 2nd time around this summer, I had MUCH better equipment -- 2 kayfuns instead of an eRoll! -- but the novelty was gone, and I had to fall back on "what do I really REALLY want? to keep smoking forever or go back to being a non-smoker?" My honest preference for going back to being a non-smoker meant I had to get militant with myself, and that's ok, because the "absolutely forbid smoking" came from ME, not from someone else -- if anyone else ever tried that with me, I'd probably light one and blow smoke right in their face. :D

I can't tell anyone else how they should do it. I just know that for *myself* I had to identify what I really wanted, and then follow thru with the action necessary to reach that desired outcome. For me, that meant I had to set a deadline, beyond which smoking would not be tolerated. When the cravings started assaulting me 10 days in, I had to add some WTA, so I could continue vaping happily -- and it's working great.

I've finally changed my sig thingie; I had the appendicitis/smoking relapse masacree up there for a while, but it's really no longer relevant -- I'm going on 90 days smoke-free AGAIN, and that is a blessing, because becoming a non-smoker is something I've wanted for a while, but never could even realistically contemplate until e-cigs came along. Yes, I loved smoking, when I was a smoker, but sometimes I'd just look at my lit cigarette and wonder how stupid and/or insane I really was -- and then take another puff. Now, I've got my "I don't smoke anymore!" hootchie-kootchie dance back. :D :thumb:

Are you dealing with Workers' Comp or is this private ins you have? Start showing up at the ER. Maybe the hospital will have an ortho dr there that will take you on quicker. Have them do an MRI (if they will) and bring your films. Call the State Ins Commissioner's office and get names and dates and start a letter campaign. It can not be a good thing to be not getting a broken back fixed. Has to be a way to speed up the process. Wish there was something I could do. That is frustrating.

You need to try to get off the cigarettes. A lot of ortho drs will not or do not want to do surgery on a smoker because it inhibits healing. They get all holier than thou and these days get away with stuff that they could not get away with a couple of decades ago. Back in 2008 the ortho surgeon would not have done my cervical spine (neck) fusion if I had been a smoker at the time. Not unless it was an emergency like my head was going to fall off. He told me that in not quite those words but that is what he made sure I heard.

I hope you can get the surgery bumped up. I will say prayers for you and send you good thoughts and hugs.

It's good to see so many familiar faces... and on a not entirely unrelated note, after reading through the last several pages, I can I relate with a lot of the issues I am reading about.

Much like FQ, quitting for me doesn't come from a place of a desire either because I love to smoke too. Also I get a lot of crap from family for vapeing. Regardless of what I say, what I give them to read, or links I send them to they still are unconvinced they are safe, or safer even than tobacco. It's a strange predicament when out of one side of their mouth they say "I want you to quit smoking," and then when I'm messing with a mod or coiling a dripper they turn around and say, "Why don't you just smoke instead?" I'm sure some of you have dealt with this as well.

I am seriously stressed about my back. I broke it a little over a month ago and still haven't seen a specialist. Apparently there is only one specialty center that handles these types of injuries on my insurance and they can't see me until next year at the soonest! I'm supposed to wait 3+ months after a spinal fracture...really? I'm a bit concerned because parts of my feet and legs are going numb randomly when I'm sitting and laying down. I should tell a Doctor right? /frustrated At least I get to see a Cardiologist in a couple weeks. note: The Doctors here are generally really good, however there is a noticeable shortage. The insurance companies, like everywhere else suck and are reprehensible for profiting from the suffering of others.

My smoking has been out of control. I recently got some WTA from Aroma, so I will make an effort to start vaping again. All I'm doing is sitting/laying watching tv or on my laptop all day. Between that, the stress and the pain it's a conducive environment to smoke like a chimney.

Hi JJ. Real good to see you. Wow! Quit vaping too? How wonderful for you to be totally free by choice. Keep your gear or at least some of it, just in case you get an inkling for a vape down the road. I am real proud of you. You are a great success and so quickly. Congratulations.

thankyou i finished with ecig's 19 days ago no longer need it got down to 0mg stayed there for 1 1/2 months and finished

HI, and welcome to the thread. Wow, what happened to get to back to smoking after 6 months of cig free vaping? Great to hear that you have a plan to quit tobacco again. And it sounds like a good plan.

I am like Thayamax here. I am so afraid if I had just one cigarette I would be off on a roll and back to smoking 2 packs a day within a week. After 46 years of smoking, I just know me. So I pull out my stubborn streak and grit my teeth and up my nic and vape through it. Now, over a year in, the cravings are few and far between and not of a physical nature. Just my mind playing tricks on me like the what ifs of life.

Glad to see you post here and stick around and chat. Do some reading back several pages and you will see most of us were dual users for a while. It is a process and it is different for everyone. The trick is to stick with it long enough to see what works for you.

Wow so many old and new faces! Grat to see you all! I have been kinda stuck at five cigs a day again..... I have the right equipment, I have plenty of juice that I enjoy, just have to push myself to vape more! It is getting colder maybe that is the gentle push I need!

As always awesome to read everyone's stories and experiences old and new! Inspiring!
