I have made a couple of coils using DI's coil jig and I think it just takes time and practice, my first one was a success but I was very very clumsy. I have heard from some people that that Artistic gizmo works very nicely. I have a tweezer set with a ton of them that I use for my vinyl cutting thingy and I've found that the very pointed ones are a huge help for both installing a coil and for wicks.

Be prepared for the first few hits to taste yukky even with organic cotton, but that goes away quickly.

Now wish me luck as my first mech mod arrived today and I haven't the foggiest idea how to use it with it's bottom fire button, but it is very very pretty. :) Still looking for an inline volt meter for it and probably a kick too, my plan for the inline volt meter is to be able to check how much battery I have left quickly and easily without having to remove the battery, I don't plan to leave it on the mod all the time. I want to be safe though.

I got the hcigar two tone Nemesis clone and with all tubes it is a hair taller than the standard ProVari, maybe a quarter of an inch. I am surprised at how small it really is, the pics online make everything look huge.

Oh and I guess I should tell you all that I won the GotVapes weekly contest again. :) The Evod kit will make a nice backup for out and about and I'm going to try their peach cobbler juice. The caramel apple I got from them is pretty good so hoping this one will be too.

OK. Don't wrap it yet!! First check that battery unless you have good IMR batteries and are used to running mods/apvs.

The micro coils I have no experience with so I can't comment but I just took 30 seconds and wrapped a 1.3ohm coil with 28ga wire and 5 wraps. No tweezers except for fiddling with hot spots.

On the much with a bottom button you want to check 2 things, threading on the locking ring and how your Atty threads on it. With a mech there are only 2 things that count, your battery and coil. The fire button only makes the battery send power to the coil so as long as you can "lock" it out you are OK.

What gauge of wire, size of wick and Atty are you putting on the shiny new mech?

And BTW congrats on winning!

Yep I'm used to mods and I have good IMR batteries, safety is first priority here. I'm going to get an inline volt meter to test battery periodically so I don't run it too low. I'm going to be using an Origen dripper clone with a 1.4 ohm micro coil and I am going to get a kick and a kick ring for it. This is an HCigar 1.1 clone so I can order components made for the authentic Nemesis, in fact the only reason I didn't get the authentic is because I couldn't find one. I use micro coils and cotton wicks because the flavor is just better IMHO.

I'm using 28 g Kanthal and I make the wicks myself, can't really say what size because you have to adjust the size with a micro coil so that the wick doesn't choke. The reason the micro coils give better flavor is because there is more coil surface touching the juice.

I also have a Trident clone which works great but I prefer the Origen and intend to get another, possibly the authentic.

At this time my primary mod is a ProVari and a Smok SID. :)

The tweezers are necessary for me because I am 65 and my fingers don't work as well as they once did. :)

That's right - I saw that Claudia won Gotvapes contest last week. So that was you. Congratulations. And a Nemisis mod. Wow. I hope you love it.

I pretty much have been using my Provari Mini most of the time. The size and weight are comfortable for me. I think I would even like the standard size better since I seem to prefer the feel of the mini with the larger battery. Easier for me to hold and use.

I am pretty sure I am going to pick up one of those Gizmo jig thingys. I just can not seem to get the hang of building a coil free hand with just the drill bit. My hands hurt and do not want to do what my brain is telling them to do. And the fact that I am having trouble doing what seems so easy for many people is frustrating me. My coils are not coming out tight enough and are metering out way too high. So I am doing something wrong. Only had a small amount of wire so have to buy more and just keep practicing. I will get it eventually. I even cut my fingernails off for this so I could manipulate the wire better.

I agree with you on that one, Aik. And then there is the contingent of people that are worried about the face of vaping. And its image. Something that looks like a hand grenade is going to do wonders for the sedate image of vapers. Geez. What about the children. Next they will be saying they are trying to sell hand grenades to children, never mind chocolate and candy flavored eliquid. I do not get people.

So much for vaping moving into the mainstream and being accepted as a 'normal' thing in polite society.

I don't think that's the mod I'd want to be using on a traffic stop.
LOL!

Totally agree! There have been cigarette lighters made in all shapes and sizes of handguns but hand grenades? For the full reality they should have put the place where the pin goes and the part that you have to keep depressed after the pin is pulled could have been the fire button.

I did not win the Nemesis clone, I bought that to sit my Origen clone dripper on, it just didn't fit the Provari right even though it worked fine on it. Also I am not overly fond of the SID I have, it doesn't feel good in the hand and the power drops off way way too fast for me. I won an Evod kit and juice.

I didn't cut my nails off, instead I filed them to a different shape, more rounded and closer in on the edges but not pointed, that way I can better feel what I am doing. I will never cut my nails off, they are too much a part of my hands, and I use them as tools like scrapers and screwdrivers, my nails are very very strong.

I only use the tweezers to squeeze the coils together so they are touching better, I think it's 10 wraps of 28 g that makes the 1.4 ohms I am using, and the jig I have uses a tattoo needle, I don't know the gauge of the needle but it sure works nicely.

OK I just about fell off the couch. My 4/5 wrap on 3mm ekowool (doubled over) get about 1.2 ohms and is a cloud chaser like crazy.

For those that have issues wrapping (normal not micro) coils by hand, straighten out a large paperclip and put it in the middle of the wick... see image below:

And yes, I know it's a needle driver and yarn, but I am illustrating a point lol.

Further, I wrap the coil as follows:

Sorry about the colors, mama has used her good yarn in other projects since she quit smoking (I see a knitted mod-coozie in my future). The arrows should help even if they were from my phone. If you would like cleaner pics I will be happy to wrap one and run it through #PS (my first love) so you can see the whole thing.

I would very much like to see the 28ga micro coil you spoke about... it sounds like a great smoke machine.

Wish I would have read this part closely the first time ... sigh, I spent several minutes trying as hard as I could to see the paperclip and wire-- I mean how could I not see it? That pic is huge! Then I finally gave up and decided that I REALLY need to set up an appointment with an eye Dr.
Then because I'm stubborn (and because I refuse to admit that my vision is getting as bad as I think it might be getting) I tried to see the paperclip again. :facepalm:At least this time I saw the above message!

I have a hunch it's going to be quite popular. We'll see. I think there's a coop brewing for it now. There seems to be a significant division between mods that appeals to guys and what appeals to girls. To me, that looks very uncomfortable to hold. Same with telescoping mods, 134 and there's another one that's even larger. Give me pretty lightweight mini's.

That is your build, Claudia? Wow. Just oh wow. Ok, I am going to retire from coil building free hand. That's it. Gonna go out and drive all over tarnation in the next week to find me one of those jiggy things. I don't know how to do pictures good, but I am too embarrassed to post the pathetic 2 coils I made (threw one of them out, the other is in purgatory until I decide what to do with it.)

Yeah, did not do me any good though. You should see the coil I made. I do not think any part of it is round. Could not get it tight around drill bit, so it is all loopy, loosey, goosey and crooked. Not reading on provari and not vapeable. But it is only my third one. So I cut my nails off yesterday. All of them. Have not tried to make a coil yet.

Been busy all day and will the next two chasing down cabinet and flooring people to come give estimates. Ins lady called and said she got approval to upgrade our payment for the hardwood so she is calling back tomorrow to go over more new numbers. Still no approval on paying for these people to come and give estimates. Told her to go get that approval, we are stuck until she does.

Ohhh no girl! You did what???

You are too funny. But, I looked real hard for the paper clip too. How silly.

Thank you, it took a lot of fiddling and then I about freaked with the vertical coil but in the end it tested at 1.4 ohms and I've been vaping it for a week or two and it vapes great. I think I prefer the vertical coil because it is easier to wick, but getting the cotton wick right is tricky, you just have to accept that you will rewick a lot until you get the hang of it. Be prepared for dry hits cause you choked the wick, it happens to everyone and you just have to get a feel for the right amount of cotton, it's not something you can tell someone.
