When I put completed coil on Provari to test ohms, do I need to have cotton in it, or test ohms before cotton. I think before, but not sure.

You can test it before adding your wick (cotton, threading silica in..) if you want. i always check again after to make sure i didnt cause it to short somehow.

I know this information comes from the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, but it's the most complete information I can find that's written in plain English:

Heart disease - Heart failure - Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada

I've been on Lasix for years, because of hypertension (I also take AdalatXL). From what I have read, with congestive heart failure, fluids are usually limited to 8 glasses of fluid (coffee, tea, water, juice, etc.) a day. As long as he sips a little bit here and there to keep his mouth moist, he should have no problem keeping hydrated while vaping. Maybe stock up on some sugar-free hard candies as well.

I really hope that you able to help him out. More importantly, though, is I really hope he can help himself before it's too late.

I am going to read that well tomorrow. Thank you for the link. When he first moved out here from CT he was huge. Way overweight and only eats goodies and fast food. I tried to talk to him. I was secretly angry that I have diabetes and he did not 3 years ago. Now I feel guilty about even thinking that. He is in bad shape.

Spent a week in hospital with congestive heart failure and can not feel his toes or feet (or see them he is so fat now). Out of control diabetes and Dr says toes are a goner, maybe feet soon. Not 50 yet. Supposed to be on 24hr/day oxygen but will not do it. Only some times. Bad, bad, bad. Only tells me a little, except if I catch him in a lie or he slips. Still smoking. Thrilled he wants to vape. I had him try mine a few times since last June. Acted like I was killing him.

I know I can not save him. But he is like a brother to me. Dumb stubborn brother. The best kind. So I will do what I can. Can not force him to do the right thing. I am not his mother. But he sure makes me mad.

Thanks for the info aikanae. I've searched and searched and searched online and can't find much of anything about medicaid in this state. I've never had medicaid before, and this state just did the expansion and set up their own healthcare exchange which forces everyone to sign up for healthcare through that site alone. Needless to say, there are a lot of issues with the new system.

I will have to start making phone calls and just try to see someone... anyone. I'm a little afraid of how long I may have to wait for an appointment. Time to get proactive I guess.

I *really* need to see someone about PTSD asap.

I'm glad it was helpful. It's hard to get too specfic about Medicaid because the states are all different.

What I would be tempted to do would be to drop by a federally qualified health center (FQHC) and talk to someone in billing. They have access to the state's computer program and have experience in enrolling ppl. You might even get an appt right then depending on what's going on with your application/whatever the glitch is. I just put the city Las Vegas in; HRSA - Find a Health Center - Search Page

You will be able to get healthcare there whether you qualify for Medicaid or not. It'll get you started and you can figure out other options later. I did see a notice that the Medicaid dept got triple the number of applications than they expected, so it's reasonable to assume there might be a delay in getting a card to you.

This site has the Medicaid manual https://dwss.nv.gov/ but don't worry about it. I just wanted to let you know it's there, and typically vague. They barely mention the Medicaid expansion for childless adults. I don't think it's been updated so it's probably more confusing than helpful at the moment.

They also have enrollment fairs https://dwss.nv.gov/images/job_connect_flyer.png but since you've already applied, I'd go to a case worker / billing agent in a healthcare center. I assume you have a utility bill or something in your name that will prove NV is your place of residency. Sometimes they require living in the state for 6 months first - but if you have something in your name it's usually overlooked. Don't bring it up though. You want to fit into their little check boxes nice and neat. The golden rule of getting benefits is don't make them think. They don't want hassles anymore than you do. The good news is if your looking for a job, it appears NV is hiring. If it's like Az, it's not bad = flex time and work from home part time.

Are you a vet? The VA is the leader for PTSD treatment despite all the bad press. Otherwise look up ISSTD, that's the agency that specializes in trauma treatment. I also have PTSD due to child abuse. Don't assume you can't afford a specialist in trauma. IMO a bad (untrained) therapist can be worse than no therapist at all. Some therapists will accept a number of patients with a sliding scale, tith a certain number of patients over or they can refer you to an agency that has trained staff. It's a matter of right time/place. I avoid public mental health because it's usually drug based; fine for bipolar (maybe), bad for trauma that can't be fixed with a pill. Again, ymmv. Whatever works. Pm me if you want to talk. I moved here last year and I've had easier moves.

Hopefully you'll get your foot in the door soon and that'll help you settle in. Wishing you the best. I lived in Reno for a few years and I'd go back in a heart beat. Beautiful area. Vegas was a secondary hub when I was flying. I never got out of the strip -> shopping mall area. It's changed a lot since then.

I know you're not his mother, but you surely mean very well. He's quite fortunate to have someone like you in his corner. I just hope he takes heed and comes to his senses (straightening up his diet, caring more for his health, etc.). Hopefully this is his "wake-up call."

You know the saying; "you can lead a horse to water...." I am bad as well, I could fix a lot when I start eating healthier. I actually am looking forward to it. You scared me into looking at my foot, its been bothering me yet I don't really feel much, it's hard to describe but I have a large lump I would say about the size if a quarter and it stands away from the foot where my toes are on the pad area. The toes feel "rubbery" and while it does not hurt, I can "feel" something like a pressure there that won't go away. This is aside from gout, arthritis and neuropathy. What next? LOL

Now the list is longer for the Dr's. I'll have something to do everyday, for a while I think.

Okay so today is a baaddd day. :( Apparently Im either really stressed or I have anxiety, and now that Im trying to quit smoking it's rearing it's nasty ugly head.

Amber Alert alarm just came through my phone at almost 4am, thankfully I'm not asleep. Scared the crap outta me. 10 minutes later and I still cant get rid of the chills. My freaking front door keeps making noise and Im spooked like a cat. Jeesh.

Insomnia to boot. In the last week I get between 3-5 hours a night, but I could sit here all night if I didn't make myself go to bed.

And all I want to do is smoke, but I ran out and am not taking my pj'ed .... to the store..

Gah, sorry rant over.

Aik, that was probably better and more comprehensive information regarding Medicare and Medicaid than you would get from the source. Thank you for taking the time to post that. As you know, with me being in TN, I am screwed. But the info is being filed away in my mind for when we are looking to get out of TN.

If I remember right, of the states you've posted, only Washington has extended Medicaid and that's Group Health. They are known to be pretty good. A lot of ppl with Medicare sign up with them too. My MIL had them and I know she wasn't Medicaid. She got good care.

Im a bad person, but I disabled the amber alert, weather and presidential alarms because they would go off at random times and be at full volume regardless of my phone being in silent mode.

First time the alarm went off I ran to check on my child. Had flashback to him in hospital just after first open heart surgery.

I have insomnia too. It sucks. Im about to force myself to sleep, put in my earplugs and earmuffs (total silence, can hear my heart beat) and read my book for a while.

My front door no longer latches. Any wind or pressure changes and the door is banging around. Keeps me awake.

Just bought a k1000 in classies. Its green. Excited to get it.

Have him hold the vapor in his mouth and out his nose so he's not taking direct lung hits like smoking. The vapor was probably trying to kill him. It's rougher for people who already have lung problems. How about that stuff for dry mouth too. Do you have WTA to share? Another option for him might be the snus.

I LOVE it! I was Facebook chatting with my daughter and sent her the link -- and bam, her end of the conversation went dead silent --she got lost over there too.

he-he. A secret passion and wish list. Somewhre on there is my UCann hybrid that I swear I will have one day. Of course, heat treated first. I loved the lego mod, Mr. Potatoe head and charger mod. Some of them are crazy. I'm amazed with how creative ppl are.

I am very excited. DH bestest friend and mine too since DH and I have been together (20 years) is asking me for advice and help to stop smoking. He is the one that has congestive heart failure and out of control diabetes. I have been trying to get him to try vaping since I started almost 8 months ago.

He is in bad shape. Will lose his toes soon. He is on Lasix for water retention so I am worried about starting him on 24mg or 18mg nic because he has to limit water (liquid) intake. I have a couple of spinners to give him and a ton of juice. I also have DIY stuff: nic base in pg, pg, vg and flavors, along with lots of premixed vendor juice.

He has cut his smoking to about 4-5 packs a week. When he has tried my vapes at the 24mg I was at back last summer he coughed and acted like I was trying to kill him. So, I am thinking, give him a couple of 24mg juices watered down with some vg to cut the nic to 15mg or less for his cravings. And then only give him 12mg or less in the juices I have from vendors. I can Diy some stuff with 0 nic in about a dozen flavors.

Lox, the ecig that you gave me that looks like a cigarette pack will go to him. Thank you. I am giving him one brand new spinner and one that I have used for a few months. I will give him a bunch of 510 attys and a couple of evods and heads. And some other clearo that I think may be a disposable ce4. Don't know, but I know I have not used it and will not and I can help him to use it.

Has congestive heart failure, out of control diabetes and is going to loose his toes. Also 24hr oxygen which he is not doing. I want to write him off, but I love him and can not do it.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to provide nicotine to someone that is on Lasix to limit fluids???? I need help with this. I will not abandon him. I have plenty of juice that I can dilute. But how?? Do I add distilled water? Do I add vg??

How do I help him???? I love you guys.

I am going to beat him with a wet noodle for the next year, if he lives that long. I need help with this, please.

First off Shari, my condolences on the condition of your friend, don't worry about dilution yet though. From experience, everyone I have helped get to vaping has had that same cough, as did I.

For 99% of them the cough was gone and in about a week they were already breathing better. Consider the nic rate though. Unless he was smoking non-filtered cigarettes, you can figure on about 1mg/analog and that's what I tell people starting out. An average pack a day smoker will do fine on an 18mg liquid (BTW, 1.6ml @ 18mg is close to a pack and a half of analogs mg for mg as far as nicotine goes).

The bit about the heavy cough, IMO, is breaking up the mucus in the lungs which holds a major amount of the tar and chemicals. What I would suggest about that is having VG not water handy and dilute (approx 10% at an attempt) to find something he can vape without hacking like crazy. He may end up nearly 100%vg for a while, which will lower the nic content (see ejuicemeup calculator for more info) but hr doesn't need to know that yet. Also another plus is that with CHF (which took my Dad), the coughing can be a good thing as long as its productive and isn't too violent as to jar the heart too much (ie: car-crash).

Also, the pg is hydrogenic (right word I think, meaning that it draws water in, hence early vaping cotton mouth. Just don't let him start chugging water to make up for it.

As always, follow the drs orders unless the dr is an idiot and watch for the obvious warning signs, mainly:

* Very shallow or labored breathing while resting

* A gurgling or rattling while breathing which can indicate fluid on the lungs

* Pitting edema, or fluid retention normally found in legs from the kneed down that when pressed with a finger DOES NOT refill to normal appearance in a timely manner (in a few seconds)

The second of these the cough can actually help by breaking up and removing the fluid on his lungs naturally and the lasix will help with the edema but the labored breathing at rest, especially with elevated heart rate would make me more concerned. There are many treatments for fluid retention and drs have even taken over 9.5 liters of fluid off my 120lb wife post childbirth!

Tell him from a fellow heart patient that vaping may be hard for a week but to start slow and mouth-hit the Atty and inhale after, as it will tame the pg some, and that it is worth his life to at least try (see my signature for all the 4,000 reasons he may need.

Another note since he is diabetic, and like most, I assume he likes deserts and sweets. If he can convert to vaping, he can have all the desert he wants and none of the sugar that can cost him more toes... much easier to walk that way lol. Also, juice has been known to be flavored with both stevia and maltodextrin/maltodextrose neither happen to affect the body the way sugar does.

*********
One last thing, if he wants to know if its going to work, tell him that a genuine hero (sorry about the bragging, just sometimes it comes I'm handy lol, god forgive me) gave you the extra advice on it.

Here's the link if he wants to know how I'm a hero: http://www.disclosurenewsonline.com/2013/11/27/tragedy-in-wake-of-motorcycle-accident/

By the way, he survived, kept the use of both arms and is currently in rehab to learn how to to walk again with a prosthetic, and yes, the biker was drunk and crossed the center line. It was the same kind of logic I told Dan that night on the road that kept him calm until the ambulance got to the scene and finished what I started with a tourniquet to save his life. I spoke to him personally this month... no compliments please, not said to brag.

Best of luck with your friend, let me know if I can help.

Dog, try what we had to do about our front door. Get a gate latch, basically a hook and eye set up that screws into the door and the frame. Its a bit fiddly at times but is solid even in 70 mph winds

You can test it before adding your wick (cotton, threading silica in..) if you want. i always check again after to make sure i didnt cause it to short somehow.

Note, your meter might read the length of your legs if you did not trim them before testing, which I don't. They should only add a tenth of an ohm or so anyway

FQ, how do you like your new toothies? I am hoping they are wonderful and you are happy with them. Hope you have a good day too. And I hope it all settles down a bit for you.

I'm really happy with them this time, they fit much better, and all the teeth are straight. The 1st set were wonky and the 2 front teeth were not the same length. Talk about mad! Now I'm seeing that my clutz tendencies might actually be a blessing in disguise.

Have a great day everyone! I'll be out this afternoon so may not post again until tomorrow.

I am going to beat him with a wet noodle for the next year, if he lives that long. I need help with this, please.

Distilled water can increase the cough initially. It's like walking into a very steamy bathroom. More vg blends make me cough more .
I think why vaping with an eGo twist worked better than a cigalike , for me, was my ability to lower the voltage or raise it, depending on the blend. 24mg nicotine kicked my .... but once I lowered to 18mg it slowed things way down in the extreme changes.
I agree, vaping desserts has really helped with my cravings for sweets.
Since you have plenty of ingredients to work with my suggestion would be try lots of flavors and mixtures and relax on the attempts to help him quit smoking. Nothing will keep a smoker from quitting more than the pressure of loved ones forcing the issue. A lady at a local vape store said she got into it because her doctor suggested her asthmatic daughter try some no nicotine, no flavorings juice to help with the asthma. She stopped smoking because of it and ended up getting a job at the vape store because she believes in it so much because of how it has helped her daughter.
As far as possible dry mouth they make sprays that help those in medications that cause dry mouth to subside quite a bit. I don't drink a lot of extra water but I do swish/spit water quite a bit now.
My first vape on an eGo twist was a very bad experience. My brother in law had his set to 4.5 volts,a 24mg pipe tobacco. I drew on it like a Blu cigalike and thought I was going to die. You mentioned loss of toes. I thought mine were coming up through my lungs for about 15 minutes. 18mg menthol blend of 50/50 with the battery set at 3.7 volts worked best for me at first. Once I discovered all natural stuff from Killer Juice I soon lost my taste for cigarettes and ended up going from a pack a day to having bought only1 pack in 2014 that still isn't empty. I think it was mid January I got it but don't remember.
I have since dropped back to 12mg because 18mg was working but I also lost my desire to eat and sleep. I had plenty of energy and was never tired but the twitchy eye thing I developed made me decide I needed to lower my nicotine some. After a few weeks on 12mg I no longer feel itchy for nicotine after being busy for hours and not able to vape.
My suggestion is relax and help him treat it as a treat and not a new habit out cessation of anything. I rewarded myself with Milk Chocolate vapes before getting fruit and chocolate blends to switch things up. I now have over 20 different flavors I switch between at different times. Sometimes it's a chocolate tobacco moment, others a strawberries and cream kind of thing. Last night while on Facebook it was a Boysenberry Pancakes kinda night. Today so far it's vanilla mixtures and an girl scout cookie thin mint flavored chocolate mint mix keeping me from stepping outside for a smoke.

I'm back and I'm so ...... off. I actually considered choking my child on the way home. Guess therapy is helping her find her voice, and she used it on me all the way home from the doctor appt. Still not smoking. Still steaming mad, even though I'm back at work and smiling on the outside, I think a long grounding is in order when I get home. Grrrrr.

So where is everyone?
