Although I didn't need another mech mod, I just couldn't resist this one:
https://www.fasttech.com/p/1494600

And I had to get something to match:

https://www.fasttech.com/p/1481010

Ohhh, that is pretty! Ya know, in a unisex kind of way.

Sorry shari.

Im going to crash usps tracking by refreshing my tracking on my k1000 I bought.

And probably meet my mail lady as soon as she comes to my neighborhood. Sending her a message now to change her route today to deliver my package as soon as possible. Also have some computer parts she needs to borrow.

No matter how you try to explain it ... it's still called stalking!:laugh::laugh:

Shari keep in mind not only have building materials gone up (just commercial locks alone have doubled in price in the last 5 years) but labor has gotten expensive due to overhead (taxes, insurance, licensing fees, etc) even small operations have to charge accordingly. I just had to incorporate as the self employment tax was killing me and have no full time employees now. Last year was my highest year dollar wise for sales yet worst year for profits and I was slow work wise. I do estimates and think holy crap I'll never get this one only to find I'm actually low. I just quoted some panic devices to a school at $1900 a piece and had a po in 2 minutes - I was $400 lower than the other low bidder  AND I quoted the top of the line stuff made in the USA.
What really irks me is most lock companies (like Schlage and Yale) are manufacturing in china or Mexico yet have annual 8-12% price increases :glare: you'd think they went from paying a good wage in America to pennies overseas they'd pass it to consumers. Nope :glare:

Also be sure you know what your getting - ask for specific brands names when possible. I have a competitor that vaguely quotes stuff then uses the cheapest crap import he can find. I won't sell my customers anything I believe inferior. I'll refuse to quote the job.

It's hard be an honest businessman in a corrupt marketplace :( I may be broke but I have a clear conscience.

I wish more businessmen/women were like you and had your ethics. So few people believe in quality work anymore, let alone quality work at an honest rate.

Oh, I am gathering my forces. The estimate that left me speechless was in the amount of $19k to do just the island and 600ft hardwood. So high I got dizzy. You bet it will be sent to ins lady deciding our claim. With a hardwood estimate I also thought up in the clouds, until that $19k one. I am still gathering quotes.

DH friend walked out on DH so now DH and another buddy are painting. Not pro job so more mess. I am trying to find a corner to stay out of the way and out of shouting range, because I am stupid and do not know what I am talking about. What is a drop cloth? (that is a joke, DH does not seem to believe in them).

The paint color discussion went on most of yesterday. Whole house is in various tones of builder beige including all ceilings. The contractor friend was painting ceiling in kitchen a shade of brilliant white. I said something about it and WW3 ensued. You guys get the picture I am sure.

Shari, I am really feeling for you! Just keep reminding yourself that no one looks good in orange, and that "mystery meat" is considered a delicacy in terms of prison food.

I got rid of my cigarettes yesterday. It's time to take that next step. Granted half a pack in about 2 months ain't nothing to sneeze at our be ashamed of but it's still time to stop having the crutch in the house. It's rubber meets road time, when the inevitable thighs of cigarettes show up it's time to take the rights captive abs replace them with something else.

Congrats on getting rid of them, and good luck! I wish I were doing so well at the moment.

I snapped a few pics of my bulldog after I scrubbed the garbage back off of her from all the storms.

Am I the only one that was expecting cute puppy pics?

Shari - yes Swedish fish counts :)

Have you looked at Angie's list? I know you're in a less populated area but they usually have a free trial membership. I used it a few times here in Philly when you just can't find someone to do a good job. If nothing else you can look up the contractors giving quotes to see how the consumers rate their services, prices, professionalism, etc. and Angie's also tries to settle disputes - bad contractors that don't make good end up on the wall of shame - and it's published. Worth a look see maybe...

There were many thousands of homes that had their pipes burst in that 2 night deep freeze. That is the problem. Feast to famine for the carpenters for now. Usually the trades are begging for work from Oct. to March. I am surprised that I am having this much trouble. I have had several local trades businesses do work on our house over the years. Trained workers are not in quantity here.

I do not want someone who does not care enough to have a license and insurance in my house doing this big of a job. If he does not have enough pride and skill to know he needs these things, I do not want his work or the liability of him getting hurt on our job. Paying someone for a small quick fix thing is one thing. Not a major kitchen build with hardwood being replaced. I need someone with skill and proper protections for themselves and us. We do not need to end up in court or get sued because someone gets hurt or ruins 1k sf of hardwood flooring.

Ppl around here are begging for work, esp the trades. That's what's so goofy. I'm not doubting you, it's just weird. I'm feelin' your frustration.

Good for you, Mark. But do not let the fact that you tossed them stress you. I ended up keeping my last pack. It is still here somewhere. lol

For some reason, for me at least, the fact that I knew I had that pack put away actually helped me to not smoke a cigarette. Think it is a personality thing in my case. You know, the child that would do whatever she was told not to do. Yup, I was one of those. Just made sure I did not get caught. Knowing the pack was in the house was calming for me. Now I can not even remember where it is.

I actually finished the pack. It was just one of them things. Like I hadn't bought a carton since before Christmas I just don't have any plans to buy another pack. I might get stressed out and Jones for a smoke at some point but I'll cross that bridge if it shows up. I haven't had any alcohol to drink since 96, still get a desire to try a Sam Adams Boston Lager every now and then but it passes, no big deal. Today cigarettes are like that and at some point in the future it'll be the same, will look back and it's been almost 2 decades since I smoked. Or maybe it won't. Either way today was a good day and that's good enough for me.
I figure the battle with not smoking any the other day when I went with my twin brother to the junk yard and he was basically chain smoking and I didn't smoke was about as tough as it's going to get. Or maybe not. I didn't smoke with him the other day even though I easily could have so I can make the choice,1 opportunity to choose at a time. That day when I was really weak I chose to look in my case, decide what flavor would taste the closest to dieing for a cigarette, Chocolate Tobacco won. On the way home he asked if I minded if he smoked in the truck. I said as long as you don't mind Chocolate Strawberries vapor smell I don't mind Bailey's Ultra light smoke smell.
Worry and stress is a choice, no matter the situation. Neither solves anything other than make ya old and dead sooner.

I had checked them out a couple of years ago for something. I am thinking it was maybe medical related? Do not remember. What I do remember is that the Nashville area is covered very poorly, not much for choices and absolutely nothing for where I am. There are a lot of people that will not do a job 40 to 60 miles from their location. This is the problem I had 8 years ago when we did the upstairs 1100sf attic remodel. The contractor was 60 miles away and some of his workers were almost 100 miles away. Job took 8 months (quoted 2 months) and workers kept not showing up. I had a never ending stream of strange men in and out of my home forever, no supervisor on the job, I was directing traffic. It was a nightmare.

The people live north of where I am. Nobody lives here at the edge of country. So almost all licensed, skilled labor is coming from Nashville and north of there. If I knew all this before we moved here I do not think we would have bought this far out of a major city. I have lived my whole life either 60 miles out of New York City or in San Francisco. Nashville is not a real city in comparison to what I know. Things are not the same and are not done the same.

I am in shock at the trouble I am having. We had this same sort of trouble when we first did the upstairs but I attributed it to thousands of new homes being built and not much remodels being done. Now I do not know. It must be all the claims of damage at the same time. Probably like the poor hurricane Sandy people in NJ and NY went through. Don't know.

I already know work will not start until this summer. I am ok with that. I just need to get the quotes and a contractor with a contract so I know it will get done.

On a more positive note, I have not had a cigarette and do not want one. I am unstressfully dealing with Vaper's Tongue, knowing that it will pass. I am rotating all my 510 attys and vaping straight vg in them. Maybe it will clean them out a bit. I keep trying a drop or two of juices once in a while to see if taste is coming back. Not yet, but I am actually fine with that. I am surprising myself that I am not freaking out over it.

My DH friend that I pulled out a bunch of spinners and attys and evods and bottles of different juices was here today and sat down with me. He coughs like mad with the spinners and attys.

Lox, remember that little cigalike you gave me months ago to try. Well I never did but I held onto it. Friend loves it, says it is what he wants. Could not remember how to work it so googled it and hopefully he is happy with it for a little bit. He thinks the spinner 1300mah is huge and was apprehensive of the MVP. He did like the displays on the MVP and how it would count how many puffs he takes. So I may end up parting with the MVP. We will see.

He is afraid of dripping juice into an atty. He thinks the juices in bottles are chemisty mixing and the stuff in the cigalikes is good for him. I did not disabuse him of that today. It is saved for another day. I am just happy he took something with him and he is going to try it.

So, thank you Lox. You have helped someone again.

What a GREAT blog post Uncle. I read it and have subscribed so I can go back and read your linked references. A couple I am familiar with. Many new ones. A must read for a diabetic vaper. Thank you.

By the way. I saw your photo over there. You are quite the cutie. A handsome fellow. For some reason I pictured you in my mind as older than you appear in the picture.

 THANKS . . .

As I mentioned in the "Blog" - I do hope the information is informative and helpful for "You" to make an informed decision . . . :D

And - As for that Photo - Thank you for the compliment - I think . . . That photo was taken just after I became a member here on ECF for a Promotion that was being held by "Smokeless Image" and for a "Voltians 2011 Class Collage" - So I am OLDER NOW (and also look it - now to be honest at the time - I had an ECF Friend actually Photoshop it to get rid of the huge bags under "My" eyes . . .) . . . (BTW: "SI" is still holding that promotion - Submit photo of yourself with a "SI" Product to get free "stuff" - for those interested: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-your-freebie-faces-volt-smokeless-image.html )

BTW: "Shari" - PM Coming Your way . . .

Thanks Lox, but he seems to hate the menthols and mints as much as I do. I tried to give him the little I still have, he will not even try it. He is still in the infant stage. I went over inhalation techniques for a while today with him. He is taking little tiny puffs and had trouble getting that he is not to inhale (with his oxygen problem I do not want him dropping dead on me). He says his doctor said it was ok to use ecig. So this is a real slow ride we are on.

Let's see where he is in a couple of days. I am trying to give him space to warm up to the idea of this.

Shari glad your friend likes the 306 :) I'm wondering if a menthol eucalyptus type juice may help him. Be happy to send you some if you want. I sometimes add it to other juices to get that bit of coolness especially if I have a cold. Just pm me if you want it :)

Keep in mind you don't absorb as much nicotine with vaping as with smoking. There's a great thread somewhere explaining how smoke molecules are smaller and nicotine in smoke is mostly absorbed in lungs whereas vaping is mostly absorbed in mucous membranes of mouth and nose. Basically he can use a higher nic and not actually inhale - hold vaper in mouth and exhale through nose.

Sorry, Jim. I missed my cue.....

SO WHERE'S THE &*%$ PAPERCLIP?????

;-)

I'll put it back in and snap a pic for ya....lol!!!

which tank is that with the SS mesh?

SmokTech RSST Genesis-Style Atomizer. I like it because it was cheap ($30 with SS mesh out the door from the B&M), the center post is spring loaded, so much easier to catch the wire, and the wick hole is insulated to prevent shorts.

The Kanthal I had was way too skinny, so it's sitting at 3+ ohms. My mech mod doesn't fire it as well as my MVP, so I've had it on there.

I got some heavier kanthal yesterday, so I'll re-coil it sometime. Right now, it's vaping fine, so I'll wait until I have more motivation :D

Good morning! I hope you all have a great day today!!

Not doing much today, but I have a new addiction, contests they take dedication. i won another mod! A hammer clone, giving to either my nephew or roommate. It looks too heavy and cumbersome, but, I'll see when I get it. I am trying for a Nautilus or Aerotank for me.

As for sweeteners in e-juice, they all raise my blood sugar. So, you do have to monitor your sugar while vaping.
