1. You're allowed 1 cigarette first thing in the morning.

Hey, I gave you a freebie first thing in the morning, and a 2nd one sometime after that! I guess you could smoke them both at the same time, but then you wouldn't have anything to look forward to after that.

Are you rescinding your entry? :nah: :p

Yes, this would not be a contest at all but just something to encourage the people who can't seem to get into vaping first thing in the morning. For some reason, I can vape much easier after I've smoked a few real cigarettes. And it could be all in my mind because I 'feel' like I need those first few cigarettes?

I read where some are completely happy to stay at a pack a day and if I could afford it, I would probably be one of those people. As I have mentioned before in a few posts, I always thought people who smoked under a pack a day were 'light smokers'. My reasons for getting rid of as many cigarettes as possible are strictly for money reasons. If I continue to smoke a pack a day, it is still going to cost me $375.00 a month (our cartons in Canada are now $125.00) and I don't want to pay out that kind of money anymore. :-x I am still paying that now. But I am down one full carton (or more) a month and that's a good start.

I'm tired of my hard earned money being spent on 'paper' cigarettes that go up in smoke and stink up my home and clothes. My next step has to be getting down to 2 cartons. That means only smoking 13 real cigs a day. (I figured that out)

Or maybe waking up one morning and going cold turkey completely?

I wish I was sensible enough to say I am doing this for my health but I'm not. Yes, it would be wonderful to feel great but I already am in the first stage of COPD and that was told to me over 10 years ago so if I was doing this for health reasons, I would have done this 10 years ago. I am just being honest with you all. I simply do not want to spend my money on these cursed paper cigarettes anymore. And mornings (and evenings) are my enemy. I see the pattern now after doing this for 2 months. These are definitely my problem areas.

I have a very addictive personality so none of this is easy. I got into trouble 30 years ago with alcohol and woke up one morning and said, 'enough is enough' and I quit. I haven't had a drink for 26 years now. I seem to be so disciplined in so many areas of my life, like running my own business all my life since I was 19 years old but in other areas of my life, I feel like a failure.

I just finished my 3rd cigarette and I'm going to vape now. I need to discipline myself somehow. Maybe, I am one that has to go 'cold turkey'? I was hoping to get rid of these cursed cigarettes in a gentle way because I find 'cold turkey' too hard on my nerves. That's why I was giving myself 7 months to do this.

I am rambling this morning. Thanks for listening. Thanks for understanding. It means the world to me. Love and (hugs) to all of you.
.I too grab that morning cigarette first thing I am very resistant to be a non smoker with the beginnings of copd I feel like I'm being punished i am aware of how I stink I worry about my dogs lungs etc July 15 will be 28 years clean and sober i have no struggle with that haven't in years I still need to get my preferred vaping stuff together although I started vaping in the afternoons. one day at a time for me. I also know not bringing my cigs to bed makes a huge difference. Now I'm running at the mouth. To everyone else TGIF. Have a wonderful day. Theya I looked up the pods but I am so sensitive to juices that can't be an option. Hugs all. Lori

She's doing well [emoji846] and YES the darn house is sold. Thank god no more driving to Philly every week.

Nothing to be embarrassed about dual using. Going on 8 years and I'm still dual using - and I'm the group owner. So don't feel bad. Im down from 3 packs a day to less than 1 and I'm ok with that. Still trying to find that magic juice / gear sweet spot and quit entirely but I'm still buying powerball tickets too [emoji51]
great to hear. You must be really enjoying your weekends now please send my love to jazz. Keep buying those Powerball. I'm embarrassed cause there wasn't any vaping going on at all. but hugs Lox

Good morning, vapers! It appears we have 2 challengers for the First Ever Morning Non-Smoking Vape Challenge. :vapor:
I propose the following :rules:

1. You're allowed 1 cigarette first thing in the morning.

2. You must vape only for as many hours as possible.

3. If you become unbearable to yourself and/or others, you can have 1 more cigarette
without penalty and continue counting your hours of vaping only.

4. When you can't take it anymore and have another cigarette, you've tapped out and are done with the challenge.

5. Count up your hours and post for all to see.

6. The winner will receive many kudos and dancing bananas! The loser(s) will receive hugs just for trying.

7. Challengers must claim their intention to participate by the end of the day and the challenge will begin the morning after there are 2 or more challengers.
Okay, now who's up for the challenge? :toast:

I will accept the challenge with a small adjustment.

from first thing in the morning to NOON no more than 4 total.

a notice of count to be posted each evening here.

PS that will be a 50% reduction on my part

Thank you KC. I have to admit, I was quite depressed this afternoon thinking I could only have 3 at the most. And I know that nobody on this site wants me to be depressed, eh?
default_rolleyes.gif
I'm just not ready to do 1 or 2.

Oh, Thay, we beg your forgiveness but we ask you might consider what KC and I are saying. I have been so stressed lately.. (Sad face...sigh...
default_sad.png
) I think I could do KC's plan. Obviously, he is having trouble in the morning too? We can barely wake up and get out of bed in the morning if we only have 2 to look for, eh....
default_Wendyshrug.gif

Oh Thay....remember back what it was like for (you) and us hard-core morning smokers....
:glug:

Or have you forgotten already.....
default_sleep.png
default_dry.png

(I'm laughing so hard right now!
default_lmao_99.gif
)

Anyway, KC and anybody else could join us starting tomorrow morning (KC?) and maybe we could even practice this for the whole month of July (and get used to this small amount) and then you could challenge us to go down to 2 in August?

Please reconsider... We beg of you....

Have mercy on us.....

The 'morning competition' sounds ok, but you guys would do better with a rule like:

vape 1ml of liquid between each cigarette (or whatever quantity is reasonable)

I started vaping last August and learned immediately that I was NOT one of those who completely quits 7 or 10 days later. What I did was forget the whole quit smoking thing, and concentrate on developing a vaping habit. I vaped before and after every cigarette. I spent money on devices and liquids until I found things that worked. Just a suggestion. Good luck! I will be watching for reports.

By the way, I too thought the morning cigarettes would be the last I would give up. But it turned out that that was not true.

Seriously, my friends, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support. I was in a very playful mood today. And that's because I have hope tonight.

And I do want my health back. (I said it was all about money earlier) I do want to see my grandchildren grow up. I do want to be here a little longer to see beautiful things, to watch many more sunsets, to watch the snow coming down. I wish I could live to 100. But I gave up. I thought for sure, the cigarettes would take me 'out' soon. My mom died at 66...heavy smoker all her life. My dad died at 69...smoking and heart conditions. My only sister died at 40 from a stroke due to high blood pressure and the doctors told her constantly to give up her heavy smoking.

So it is fun to watch and listen to that silly song I posted (and have a little fun) but many people have died and suffered because of this addition. I don't take it lightly.

So thank you all (and KC) who I will be thinking of tomorrow morning and wishing well as hubby and I head up to my trailer for a couple of nights.

I'll check in on my phone and let you know how I did. Have a great weekend everyone. ((hug))

OK, @Hopeful64 I will accept the no more than 4 before NOON challenge.
I will start tomorrow morning.

Thank You @Hopeful64 for the incentive to try and cut back some more.

Thank You @Thayamax and @loxmythe for starting and keeping this thread going.

OK that I CAN do. Two before leaving for work this morning, then 5 more at breaks (outside the salon, behind the dumpster, of all places). Two since getting home after a 12.5 hour day.

You guys are great! I certainly remember the struggle early on. You can make any rules you like.to help you get going. Only one thing I want to mention....ending at noon might mean 2 different amounts of time for you two depending on what time you get up. I suggest having a certain number of hours rather than an end time. What do you think?

I'm so excited to see how this goes! Good luck to all of you!

It looks like we have a third challenger @Skwij. I'm currently at work on the second half of a double. I'll be anxiously awaiting the numbers updates tomorrow and how you're feeling while fulfilling the challenge. This was such a great idea, @Hopeful64. Hopefully it will be the first of many and give us all something to look forward to. :):thumb:

It's currently a little after 8 am here, and I've been up for 90 mins. 1.5 cigarettes with some (not a lot) of vaping in between.
Last night was a rough one. I have mild chronic bicep tendinitis in both arms, and sometimes it flares up. Last night was a flare up in the right arm. Couldn't lay down comfortably, couldn't stand with the arm hanging down, couldn't sit in a recliner.
Medication was a life saver but I'm dragging this morning, and have a 10 hour day ahead. That's gonna be interesting, as I'm right handed for cutting and blowdrying, and colour/foil application. Methinks I'm going to run late all day as I simply can't move as fast as usual, and can't lift my right arm away from my body, let alone UP to do my job.
Best make sure I have my Advil/Tylenol combination in my purse!
