Oh my God. Gotta love the Aussies going for the gusto, all the time. LOL as an expat, I admire it. I also now understand why tobacco costs so much, I mean paying for the models for those images.... You just can't lowball it.

I will comment that the Aussie packaging would not have deterred me from smoking, that would be the kind of thing I would want to "own." I mean, I would wander around telling people "I can see my future!" and then when they asked me, I'd flash the package at them.

I am sorry for jesting, I know it's Just Terrible, and I will ALSO admit the ads here where people are talking through that larynx box made my toes curl, every time.

But, they are also not what stopped me from smoking, I am of the opinion that anti-smoking adds are designed to make you WANT to smoke. I'd immediately get anxious... and travel outside to smoke, either that or they're all jazzy with neon and "THE TRUTH" and "We can be the ones to END smoking in OUR lifetime," and they made me all jazzed up and excited, and I would go outside to smoke.

Thinking back, I have literally ZERO clues how vaping did it, because even though I KNOW it did, I still get a little nuts every now and then and go, "That was a TOTAL impossibility." Etc.

A lot of them seem like brightly colored now, I know this from my recent fall from the wagon so to speak.

They've gotten... IDK when this happened but you can buy approximately 17 different types of American Spirit, I went with black, because I THINK that's the strongest one, it also seemed appropriate. I liked it a little too much frankly, and a key part of my exiting tobacco smoking strategy was to vape the disgusting mix of tins of AS tobacco mixed with some (yeah lighter but STILL) organic pipe tobacco. That helped a LOT, there is something about the lure of tobacco pack design that just WORKS, even if you are aware of it.

I truly have never had the urge to smoke again since early 2011. It's not that I don't think I'd enjoy it, just that once I lit the first one it might not be the last. For me, it's better safe than sorry. I just vape all I want and like it enough to keep me from thinking about a stinky.

I don't blame you one bit @DaveP. I wasn't super thrilled by the experience and I'm more or less glad it's over with. However, IDK if the "It's better safe than sorry" advice is a) really that applicable at that point and b) give me enough stress, and I will tell you I just don't care. I mean I do... .to a point.

But I don't think it makes me an awful person, although it did make ECF pretty epic in their levels of support.

I have to say, snus has been the most eye opening thing for me (both in terms of work AND in times I cannot vape AND in combating those stress cigarettes. I don't think I've ever wanted to smoke when I've reached the point of inserting snus (when I don't even have to, but I'm stressed out.

I expected to have some struggles, I most CERTAINLY did not to have the plethora of options that ECF laid at my feet, that's for sure.

I have a story about someone who did know about vaping, but tried very hard to misinform me - I knew nothing about vaping at the time. When I lived in Vermont some 8 or 9 years ago, a certain owner of a certain famous vape manufacturer there somehow got it into her head that I was DIYing to start my own vape juice line. I would go in and stupidly buy whole jugs of 35 mg nicotine in VG at some insanely jacked-up price, and when I told her that I was making tobacco tea, which must have been close to their own secret technique (who knows?), she tried to dissuade me at first, and I had no intention of creating commercial vape juice, by telling me her son, the other owner, had to wear a hazmat suit when he made the first cut with his nicotine. She went on to say that it was perfectly safe to mix up small batches with their mild 35 mg nic in VG, and that McCormick was the best brand of flavorings. I recall that she said that she wished McCormick had an orange flavor without oil, because no oils, no sugars in vape (that was all she told me that was actually true). It's funny now to think about how she thought I was going to steal her business, so she told me a lot of tall tales. I understand why - they're probably millionaires now. By the way, Flavourart was a thing then, too. For shame! Haha.

I wonder what he thinks about brightly colored cigarette packaging.

I have no idea, but I always thought camels had two bumps instead of only one.

My doctor is on board with vaping. At one time he had pamphlets in his waiting room urging smokers to switch to vaping. He's happy that I vape and don't smoke.
Same here. When I told him I quit smoking by vaping he said that was great and encouraged me to continue it.

So much mis-information out there. Yet at the touch of a button there is literally a world wide web of information available. The general public at large is made up of folks who fear the sky is going to fall because so-n-so said so.

Trying to change that causes people that attempt it to look like a Don Quixote. I get a kick out of people who brag about how much booze they can consume telling me that vaping is bad. Stuff like that.
The folks close to me in my personal life who don't vape themselves (nor ever smoked) smile when I show them my shiney new toodle puffer. None give me the stink eye or mention the term 'popcorn lung'. Some outsiders do. Eh, live and let live I say.

Now as a combo smoker and vaper I personally get annoyed when a person drowns me with their steam. Same with a cigarette. So I understand first hand that some of the illiterate to vaping can think it's bad for you in general. I wear glasses. And after being in some vape shops for an hour or so my lenses need cleaning. So yeah I get that some are annoyed by that.

Yet, working construction in big cities at times, just breathing the local air can wreak havoc on the sinuses and lungs. I can tell a huge difference between working on a bi-way in the countryside or a highway in a metropolis. Yet the folks who like to scoff at vaping have no idea their veins are loaded with pollution as well. I try to keep my exhaust inside a three foot circle, whether it be steam or smoke. And doing that seems to prevent the negative comments.

Recently after a meeting I was on an elevator with a trusted colleague and pulled out my pod. I said "shhh, don't tell nobody" and took a puff. He replied "did you just hit that? I couldn't even tell"....
