I am 71 and a 55 year smoker who started vaping 10 months ago today. To say my health improved is an understatement. I feel great, I can breath don't cough my lungs up anymore and have way more energy. I may not live longer but I will live better.
That's awesome!

Well first off let me say hello all and vape on!
I'm so tired of the average Joe telling me how vaping is bad for you. We vapors understand the risk of vaping and it is a lesser evil than cigarettes. Usually I've noticed that when they say vaping has health risks I just say I wouldn't want to smoke arsenic and it shuts them up.
They try to base there facts on vaping from bold lies....I had one guy tell me glycerin crystallized and PG was what made antifreeze not freeze...that and he said there were fillers in commercial juice that were bad for you.
My response was this....PG IS IN INHALERS.....VG IS APPLYED TO SKIN....AND FLAVORS ARE NOT A RISK ALL FACTOR...excuse my caps lock it just irritates me when they base there opinions as facts....come on people that don't vape....wake up and smell 2015. I have vaped for almost a year with no health effects and there's many More that have vaped for 3-4 yaears with no health damage...
Ask a 5 year smoker or even a 1 year smoker the damage of there health

Sorry for my venting but this truth needs to be spread like wild fire and people need to know facts before opinions.
What kind of stuff have vape haters told you all?
Tell me your story. We all have one.
God bless y'all.
..
I SO wish I had seen your post before I put this in the new members thread! I'm sick of people telling me how bad it is, too! I am posting my poem here where I should have in the first place!!!

If anyone ever bothers you because you're vaping ... just remember how much smarter you are in comparison to them! I turn and recite this directly at them, and not only do they leave me alone, they turn and run. Fast.

Trolls! (c) S. Graham

Trolls on the internet,
Trolls on the phone.
Trolls in the toilet
Won't leave me alone!

Trolls in the closet,
Trolls 'neath the bridge.
Trolls in the faucet --
Trolls in my fridge!

Trolls spreading filth
On my living room floor!
Trolls spit and hiss
In my underwear drawer!

Trolls in the hallways!
Under the bed!
They love to eat earwax
Spread thick on your bread!

Trolls in the fireplace!
Trolls on the loose!
Trolls in your mouth
Pounding hard on a tooth!

Trolls in the air vent
Puffing away!
It's hard to prevent
The foul odor they spray!

Trolls are so jealous
They steal all the joy.
Trolls stomp their feet
When they can't have your toy!

Trolls love emesis,
Delight in the gutter.
One could write a thesis
On Trolls' moldy butter.

Education indeed, as George Carlin rightly stated "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups"
How we loved Carlin. To say we miss him is an understatement. We caught his last show. I was just watching him yesterday on youtube. I wonder: What would George say about all this vape attack?

Great thread. I'm sick of total strangers telling me how dangerous vaping is as they puff themselves to death.

Education is the key for us to win this fight in the long run.
I''m not seeing enough of it here in this thread.
:(

After 5 months of nonstop education, from me, my aunt finally cried 'UNCLE'. The last straw, for her, was for me to post a link to this thread on facebook. In July, she scared my mom with the formaldehyde 'story'. :-x My mom asked me about it and said 'I should've known you'd know all about it' :), and didn't think any more about it .

For me, it depends on the encounter. If someone appears interested, or at least on the fence, I'll take the time, and explain, the best I can. But I wont waste my time on those who who are just dead set on being anti.

Finishing the story here, because she is/was 100% ANTI. She is ALWAYS right about EVERYTHING, and there's NOTHING anyone can say to change her mind. If you have the chance, persistence does pay off sometimes. :vapor:

Wow. That's too bad ... especially for them. Do either of them smoke? I had the worst reactions to my vaping from smokers. I realize they think they know everything, but I also know they are extremely threatened by us. Not all of them, or even your situation, but old friends of mine who have been smoking years and years see me vaping now and several of them just can't or won't accept it. I got the impression they were afraid they would be forced to quit by the new world of vaping. An actual friend I believed I had made now treats me entirely different. It's as if I have left the cigarette club and they are defensive toward me and also my wife. I had no idea how cult-like cigarette smoking could be ... or how cliquish! Again, WOW!

They are both ex-smokers, so most of the time they are worse than never smokers. My mom is open-minded enough to accept it, but there are no words to describe this one aunt, about anything that looks like smoking. Latches on to the worst of the worst articles, and spews her poison. She loves stirring up drama, etc. AND she messed with MY mom's head. I couldn't let it go until she showed me she'd learned her lesson. I posted every one of the real studies with real explanations and all the links to real studies and any and all ECF threads that would convince her to make sure she gets her facts straight before she speaks out against something that can do so much good.

My own aunt, a never-smoker, was so pleased that I managed to quit smoking, she was perfectly willing to listen to me when she expressed her concern about what she'd "heard on TV about e-cigarettes." She's a very canny lady, professional businesswoman for 40-some years until she retired, so when I explained to her about all the money being lost by the vested interests, she understood immediately.

My mom is a little harder nut to crack; she finally managed to quit smoking after about 5 yrs with patches and gum and empty straws and anything else she could lay her hands on -- pretty sure there were some tranqs in there somewhere -- AND, she's very gullible about "The News" -- if it's on the news, she believes it. I've read her chapter and verse about all the moneyed interests, but she still says "we'll see" about the supposed risks. She's happy I finally quit smoking, but I think also a little jealous that it's been so comparatively easy for me, after she struggled with it for years, and even after 10 yrs of not smoking, says she still has cravings. But she won't hear of vaping 0mg herself, oh no, she doesn't want to get into that after finally quitting, since I guess to her it's pretty much the same thing. She's just contrary by nature, so I didn't really expect much different out of her. But she doesn't fuss about me vaping in her house, says it smells good, so that's a plus.

and that right there is one of the biggest problems we're faced with, it looks like smoke, I always tell people this..

You see fog over a lake, it's safe, its just fog, you see smoke over that same lake and it can kill you right?, vaping isn't smoke it's fog... There's nothing burning....

Since so many people have the same thought process, thinking "it looks like smoke, so it must be smoke!" and not wanting to hear any argument to the contrary. And for that matter I'm tired of hearing it as well. So I tend to vape in parking lots and smoking areas...old habits I guess. One night after a long shift, I find myself standing in a parking lot just outside of my work, having a vape. A random person walking by, walked right up to me and said "you know those things put water in your lungs, which is really bad for you". It took me back at first and then thought, well if this person has the audacity to walk up and speak his ill informed opinion on the matter of vaping, my educated argument wasn't going to back him down. So I quickly said "still can't be any worse that smoking" he opened his mouth again to speak, thought a moment, closed his mouth and walked off shaking his head speechless...some people haha.

It's refreshing to read of such positive reactions to vaping -- really wonderful! I am lucky that in my immediate family everyone was supportive. If my parents had been alive, I am not sure how they would have reacted. I think my mother might have been skeptical and my dad indifferent. My in-laws were ecstatic for all of us. Four of us were heavy smokers. Surprisingly, it was a few friends and co workers who really did not get it. They insist we are smoking -- but just a different approach to an addiction.

I can no longer try and convince or explain much more to them. And I have noticed how quickly people jump to conclusions. It has at times really brought not only me, but especially my wife down.

I just turn to the wisdom of the masters to cheer me - and it usually helps!

I simply responded with, I'll happily vape even if any (or even better - all) of the 4 ingredients in e liquid are found out to be carcinogenic, because 4 sure as hell still beats hundreds in cigs!

You may find it amusing to cross-reference the ingredients of unflavored e-liquids with this list. ;)

Spoiler alert/hint:
Propylene Glycol, Glycerol and nicotine.

However (!), flavorings may consist of any number of different thingies and whatnots. Even the occasional kitchen sink for all I know.

After smoking approx 40 cigs a day for 50 yrs,( I'm 66) I quit after my first vape ( 36mg in a Vision clearo, on an ego fixed battery) ... my wheeze disappeared within a week
My doc tells me that my lung capacity has increased dramatically.
I'm financially better off too.
I now use 18mg, mostly Provaris and a few istick 40s, my beloved PT2s and GS Air tanks
I just tell people that I could no longer afford to smoke and Vaping is my healthier and cheaper alternative ... I don't give a rat's .... what others think, 'cept when they oppose vaping while not objecting about the availability of proven cancer causing tobacco cigs.

The older I get, the less patience I have.

The last few people who have told me they were going to enjoy a "real" cigarette, mostly in a mocking manner and with a derisive glance at my "fake" e-cig, have been told to enjoy the "real" cancer and emphysema that goes along with smoking.

Blunt, but its kinda hard to argue with.

I gotta say i have never had anyone take time out of their busy day to walk over in the smoking section to tell me vaping in bad for me...i have however had smokers ask me questions about it because they want to quite smoking. My family will ask me questions and try to understand it and they feel if i am good with it then they are happy for me and glad i am no longer smoking.

If someone did approach me with an attitude that vaping is bad for me i would just tell them i have done enough research on it and feel it is far better then smoking...and then walk away from the conversation. Convincing them to agree with me would be a terrible waste of my own time....i am of the thinking let everyone come to their own conclusions...i only care about my own health and my own decisions...not others.

I have a couple of good friends (20+) years that we all have smoked since we were teens. We've recently reconnected after losing touch and now that I'm vaping I am fielding a lot of questions from them about vaping. A lot of their concerns are what they have heard on the media and easily debunked by what I have read about them.

After a week or so of that one of them is constantly asking for a puff off my Reo and is starting to ask real questions about vaping. He's got two kids and hearing me talk about my health improving has piqued his interest in vaping. When I'm able I am going to buy him a starter kit to help speed up the process.

For strangers I may never see again I answer politely and to the point but for a friend I get very in depth in hopes to help them make the switch as well. So while here on ECF I prefer a tongue and cheek response I am out there combating it to the best of my ability.

Now back to one sentence responses and goofy videos for Ol' Reign. See ya in the funny papers. :p
