I have been using the same TI 26ga coil (from unkamen) for over a month. Maybe I'll see how long it will go? What are some signs the wire needs changing?

Only three I know of, one is rust which you don't have to worry about, two is gunk you can't remove, and the other is having to increase the power to receive the same vape.

I have ran coils in drippers for a couple of months, that was kanthal. I can see a well maintained Ti coil lasting indefinitely, until you notice something odd shouldn't be any issues.

A bit off topic but a friend here in PHX got a Kooper Mini from FT and I have a loaner till tomorrow. I'm only using titanium coils at this point and I'm really surprised how a $34 mod can vape as well as this thing does. It's really small and appears to have a stainless steel exterior so I don't think I could do much damage to it if the internals are reliable.

It would be great to have a cheap mod I liked that I wouldn't have to worry about dropping overboard the next time I go sailing with my friends.

I'd appreciate any comments (PM me if you like) from anyone who has experience with the mod.

Duane

Mine is due for delivery tomorrow. (OT, I thought I'd miss delivery due to hospitalization but that was cancelled. [emoji106])

Will definitely give my thoughts and experience...

I agree. This IS the best thread on ECF.
I've been using one tank with the same titanium coil for 9 weeks now and I'm going to change it tomorrow not because it isn't giving me exactly the same vape as it did on day one, but because I've decided I like 24 gauge wire more than 28 gauge. I'm sure there is a lifetime limit but the only thing I think that's going to get me there is if I drop it coil side down when I'm changing wicks or it snaps from oxygen diffusion, embrittling it and causing it to break from thermal fatigue or rewicking. From what I know about the diffusion kinetics of oxygen in titanium, at my age, I'll be pushing up daisies before it dies from embrittlement.;)

How are you guys getting such a long life from your Ti coils? I find I am having to change my coils fairly often because I can't dry burn like kanthal and it gets gunky and the vape quality drops off.
I heat mine up to about 50 degrees less than what I vape it at immediately before cleaning it.

What do you clean it with? I've been meaning to look into solvents that are safe to use with Ti but it keeps slipping my mind. I tried the low wattage dry burn but it doesn't work too terribly well for me. They just don't seem to get clean.

I usually just use an old cloth shirt to wipe it off pretty good. The coil is usually damp with hot juice at the time and it comes off easier than you think. I don't clean them THAT good, just get most of the funk off and it helps to not wait until there is too much build up on it.

I have two in the air to me from China, so you beat me to it! Looking forward to getting mine for sure. It's hard to resist a $34 mod with TCR adjustment, even if the TCR isn't (yet) on a full scale. But it's also FW upgradeable (again, for $35!) so I hope they might extend the scale as they already have done a couple of times in its bigger brother the XCube 2.

old toothbrush and some water! works particularly well for spaced coils!

I use an old toothbrush, hot water and dawn dishwashing soap. I'll brush it a bit to get lots of suds on it, then leave it sitting for 30-60 seconds. Then use a soft brass bristle brush to remove any remaining gunk. Hit it again with the toothbrush, rinse and it's ready to go.

Using rayon to wick, I'm around 250-300ml minimum before I feel it's time to rewick/clean. Lately, if it's a regular coil I just trash it and wrap a new one because I'm usually trying a different wire size/number of wraps, etc. so cleaning is kind of rare now days.

Oh and yes good point regarding Titanium mode - what I said above applies to Ni200 mode, eg DNA 40. With a new Titanium mode mod, the chance of a temperature offset working increases, because the TCR of Titanium is lower than that of Ni200 and so the offset required is smaller.

I feel fairly confident in betting that yes SS 304 should work on any Titanium mode, with a suitable offset.

Exception here is the evic. Temp reads @80-100°f higher than actual coil temp so nife and ss 430 wires may be possible but I doubt 304 will get hot enough before running out of temp offeset headroom.

Yeah very good point. Although I think I heard the Ni200 mode is more accurate? (Never tried it personally) So if it works in any Ni200 mode it might work on that.

But yeah, under-heating mods - of which sadly there are now a few - may well be incapable. I think I heard the ELeaf TC is another. The Smok definitely is, but it has adjustable TC so that might not be an issue - although the Koopor is currently only down to 0.004, higher than Titanium, so if it underheats we'll need to see if that's low enough.

I fire mine with no wick after rinsing with warm water and fire it with the same settings that I'm using to vape it blowing on it while firing then use a tiny brush to brush it and repeat one more time. I'm using Ti, come out pretty good, fast and easy.

And don't forget @balazsk 's idea to set a 200 profile that will heat the coil to Titanium's ceiling temp (600°C?) for maximum cleaning power.

    No you can't
    Any truth to this.

Haven't even started TC vaping waiting on my device. Watched a video were it was said.

"TI wire can produce, TI dust that can catch on fire, need a class D fire extinguisher to put it out.

Also class D are not normal available for home use."

"Water and normal everyday extinguishers will not put this type of fire out."

Kind of scary to hear this though he did say it has to get very hot to produce the white dust.

There's truth to it. But there's almost no importance to it.

That's why we generally only TC vape Titanium - so it doesn't heat to those temperatures. Titanium TC vaping is considered perfectly safe, and indeed one of the safest materials to use - almost certainly safer for health than Ni200 for example.

Besides which, that dust is not going to happen from any normal vaping activity. Only maybe if you heavily overheat the coil and it crumbles, at which point it's unusable and you throw it away.

I have on occasion overheated Titanium coils to the point where they collapsed, and I didn't catch on fire. I just threw away the coils.

I only use a small amount of concentrate in my juice, and have coils running since June with no drop off in vape or taste.
I will clean them when I change the rayon wick, about once a month.
They're easy to clean, like kanthal but don't let it get too hot, the gunk burns off when it's black, then a clean with a toothbrush and water.
I run Ti in TC mode and wattage mode, never had a dry hit.
