Morning all. To all those who suggested this is the best time for cold extraction - I have a small supply of lemon green tea. Now what do I do next?
The way i do it is,put some of tobacco or tea in a jar,i use about a 1/3 of a jar or so,then pour in the pg until it just covers it.Wait a few minutes for the solids to soak up the pg,then add some more until it is just over the top of the solids again, then let it sit.The first day is the only time it needs any attention, just to watch and make sure that after it is done soaking up all the pg that it can, that it's still covered.Just make sure to use a jar with a lid,i use 1/2 pint canning jars most of the time, but any jar with a lid should work fine.

I hope it does work with the contents of teabags because that it what i have. Sorry didn't get back to the thread sooner - we had a power cut. So I've done what you said - the lemon flavoured green tea is now happily soaked in PG. I think it has absorbed all it will take but I will be keeping an eye on it till my bed time. Now once this is done where is the best place to keep it and for how long. I know you probably said this before but a short reply would save me going back searching the thread. Thanks.

That's basically what i do,except i use a kitchen cabinet that never gets used.
As for the contents of a tea bag,yes it works fine, that's also what i used on the 2 tea extracts i've done,i just opened maybe 6-8 bags and dumped them into the jar.As for how long,i left mine for 2 weeks, then dipped my finger in to taste it to see how the flavor was coming along, then checked it once a week after that until it got to where it was really strong, then i strained it,and filtered it.I haven't done a green tea,so not sure how long it will take for it,just check it periodically until it tastes the way you want it too.i let mine get pretty strong because i figure that way,i can use less when making the juice and it will last longer then.

Thanks b.m.. Obviously I have not tasted it but it sure smells great - so I have high hopes. :)

One final thing - once you have the flavour all steeped and strained, do you use it on it's own or together with some other ingredient. I'm just thinking that maybe just on its own it might be a little bitter.

That bitterness is where the tannins come into play.I have only mixed mine straight, but they could of definitely used some sweetener.I have also heard of some people mixing with cream, but haven't tried it myself. In my case,i made the mistake of using types of tea that i had never drank before, and 1 is pretty good which was an Earl grey, but the other was pretty bad haha,it's called sleepy time tea,it has chamomile or however you spell it,and i didn't like that one at all,so i made a cup of the actual tea to see if maybe it was just a bad extraction, and no it was still not good haha.

Why even remove it from the bag. That is what teabags are for.
That's a good question,i honestly don't know haha. When i did mine,i thought about leaving it in the bags, but i haven't seen anyone mention doing it that way,so i just assumed either it didn't work,or maybe didn't work as well, but i don't know,i may try it on my next one. That would definitely make it easier,as there really wouldn't be any real filtering needed.

Unless the bag would mute the flavor or add something to the flavor you don't want??? Don't know, never tried it, or tea for that matter. So I am very interested in results.
I would think it would work in the bag maybe slower but prolly better if you use the crock pot method if in the bag.

I have a percolator....

Maybe with the percolator pg in the bottom tea or tobacco in the top and sitting in a water bath in a crock pot? But only during a full moon.

And keep your eyes crossed, and your hand in the vulcan sign of "live long and prosper".
