does anyone premix nic and vg to a desired strength and then put in freezer? thought it would make it easier to mix when its time to make juices.
Quite the opposite, my friend!
I mix the flavorings and PG together, often for many weeks/months.....and then apply whatever Nic and VG to it for vaping. In this way, I can match the Nic to whomever's Nic level, and generally match their PG/VG ratio, as well. Also, though HFM ATM's don't require much steep time, say 2 - 48 hours, or so, all juices seem to benefit from some "alone" time, and mixing the flavorings prior to completing the full mix does help this. These pre-mixed flavorings are always made to 30% of mix, i.e., a 30% PG mix, then later adding a 70% VG/Nic batch to it.
I developed my techniques at a time when I was selling juice commercially, and had to prepare many different Nic levels and be able to adjust the PG/VG ratio to suit the order. As such, it did save time when it came time to mix up 1,000 mls, or so, and it's less expensive, and more accurate when done in batches, as well.
As another poster mentioned, doing the reverse, i.e., mixing the Nic and VG first will cause the Nic and VG levels to be locked into a very specific ratio, that would not be that easy to adjust to change the Nic or PG/VG ratio, though, it could be done, with a good calculator. Also, if you wanted to lock in the PG/VG ratio and the Nic to specific numbers, say 70% of mix, you could do that and just plan to then later add the 30% PG mix, i.e., flavorings and PG. That would work, as well, come to think about it, and would certainly accomplish your objectives.
Come to think about it, you could do both, requiring only a mix of the 30% PG portion (my preferred ratio....YMMV) with the 70% VG/Nic ratio. Yes, this would substantially reduce the mixing time required. So, one batch of 70% VG/Nic and a batch of each flavoring at 30% PG....yes, that would work......a very nice suggestion, and one I had not thought of myself. Now, if you had to vary the Nic, or the ratio, it DOES NOT WORK in that scenario, so, for making my own juice, it works, but I'm still stuck with formulation for any mix that varies in Nic and ratio. I make juice for friends that use higher Nic, and the pre-bottles "parts" would not work for them. Ok, rambling now.....Happy vaping!!
