Elliptical is working (mostly) the same muscles, just from different angles. Most machines will let you change your form and/or elliptical set up to either more closely resemble or divert from running. The biggest differences are the lack of core activation (runners see because they have one foot on the ground) and reduced load on the hamstrings. The Elliptical actually does a better job of working out the gluten, hip flexors and calves!

Is this the C25K program? I'd be interested in your plan.

I skipped all weekend... Unless you count 7 hours of cutting, carrying, stacking, unstacking, restocking and burning wood.

Good for you! I change up my goals to work different aspects. Usually after I make a weight goal I either start working on a mass goal or a cardio goal, but the impending summer has got me in full swing for fat burning.

Absolutely don't sell your chariot efforts short. Calorie expenditure for roughly the same as running for similar heart rates and times AND most folks tend to think they did less than they actually did while on the elliptical!

GP. Way to go! What's your goal? Time to reach?

Eh, your screen name says it all... :)

If nothing else, when I eat a crappy meal that makes me feel bad, I at least now know that my diet "brain-washing" is working!

I'll start Monday off:

-5 mile road run - 48 minutes :)
-Tabata Triceps still pending for this afternoon. :(

Hehe , thanks Cavenerd ! My goal is between 145-150 lbs right now and I want to be there by July . I am so excited !

I do let go of the arms sometimes, randomly for a few minutes, to help work the core some.

Yep started the c25k. It was already a step up just because its a full 30 minutes. It starts with 5 minutes brisk walk, then 60 seconds run/jog, 90 seconds walk. This is the beginner part obviously. My walk is around 5mph and run is 7.5mph for the most part, I don't know my actual walking and running speed, but that's the elliptical speed.

Good for you. The key part is to finish the 30 minutes and you'll slowly build up the speed to whatever level you want. It's all a process. When I started running 5 years ago I could barely go 60 seconds at a slow jog (4 mph). Two years later I was doing 12-14 miles on a Sunday just for "fun". :) You'll get there.

Go slow and don't push to hard but let the workouts challenge you.

Love that you started the C25K. I'm eager to watch your progress!

Tabata Tri's finished this evening. Glad I have a good gym-buddy to motivate me or I might have let this one slide.

I can't lie, the couch was looking wicked comfy when I came home from work today... It was calling my name...

"Josh... Put your .... on me... Josh... Just sit for a second and see what's on ECF..."

[stupid couch has got it in for me]

Lol CN.. The couch here doesn't call me but the bar stool does.

It's gonna be another 4 day workout week for me. I did do my normal 4 (elliptical) miles Saturday and Sunday, but we have a thing to go to tomorrow night and I had stuff to do around the house this evening. Doing more than 3 days in a row gives my knees fits.. Oh well. 4 days is better than 3. :)

Got my 4 miles done
After the day I had...that was a huge accomplishment.

Way to go Ladies! Any exercise is better than no exercise and pressing through at the end of a tough day is when it really counts.

"Bikini" season is coming... :)

Can I get a "Hubba bubba" from the congregation? ;)

Goodnight everyone, I'll see you all on the road at dawn.

There's a time of day called dawn?

Hello Nuts! I've been slacking on the exercise lately (had a lot going on) but I've been doing fabulously on food choices and my weight is pretty steady. My 10K is Saturday. :w00t: I'm also doing a 5K free fun run in my community on Sunday. I think it's Sunday...now I'm not sure. I'll look on the sign on my way home this evening. Tonight I'm hitting the treadmill. :)

Softball double header last night. I count it as exercise even though I was mostly drunk. ;)

3 mildly hungover miles this morning did not help my mood and I am not looking forward to tabata Chest tonight.

ughh

RJ-
Don't over train before your race(s). I'd take it easy this week and just stay loose and warm. You're gonna totally own this.

Today is an off day for me as I get everything ready for the weekend, and I suppose the winter blues has something to do with it. I will do tomorrow and Friday morning, then the water park all evening Friday and all day Saturday (a workout on its own chasing the kids around the water)

Have been doing fair on the food. For the most part my calories are well under what I should be eating or right at. Started to count them again for a few days then had to stop. This weight loss business is hard, finding a healthy balance of calorie intake and exercise, without falling back into disordered habits. Finding myself walking a very thin line most days. I know the weight needs to go, but the process has been much more frustrating than I thought.

I know of what you speak. Seems like it is harder when you have young ones under foot. They need to eat so we eat too. They can afford the extra calories, god they run around enough!

30 minutes, 3.5 miles on elliptical. Wasn't feeling the c25k thing today, just wanted to jog the whole thing (and managed til the last 5 minutes). Did some forward, some backwards (which is easier for me for some reason), some pulling with arms, some with hands on hips. Just felt the need to burn some energy and went with what I felt, didn't feel like following the schedule.

Dinner tonight is meatloaf with turkey sausage instead of pork, carrots, mashed potatoes. Am being naughty after and having a brownie, haven't had sweets in a while.
