The Lurker Thread

Good morning Lori
On my second load too  But I’ll have a fresh bed to crawl into tonight :thumb:

Hopefully tomorrow will be a turning point mouth wise :) At least I’ll be too busy to think about it

Oh no! :( Hope he’ll be alright.

He should be fine he's already breathing much better and he's been napping in my lap since he couldn't sleep last night :)

Good morning OBG, Lori and Duke

Oh boy, Dale. I’m sorry, I was hoping today would be the turning point. :(

Duke, hope he feels better soon :(
I’m an occasional Canadian Beer drinker. Labatt’s Blue. DH will sometimes get craft beer. Hope your storm isn’t a severe one.

Lori, I hate laundry too. Lol. Sorry Rita had you up so early. I have found with this last year that meal planning keeps us from takeout and it’s easier for when we have a busy week. Win, win

It’s another gorgeous day here. Lucy spent some time on the deck with her tennis ball. Family dinner is here tonight so I’m off to get some stuff done.

Is this a common problem for him or something new?

He's got a lifetime of problems but this is sort of new. When I got him he had been very badly abused. Cracked ribs, fractured legs, cracked tailbone. I was the only person he would come anywhere near for almost two months. He has a very bad heart murmur as well and then heartworms on top of it which couldn't be treated properly because of the murmur. He also threw a blood clot about a week after I got him which was one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen. He was walking through the living room and his eyes dilated all of a sudden and he got really stumbly and (gross warning) pretty much lost all control of his bowels and started throwing up as well. That scared the absolute hell out of me and I genuinely thought he was dying.

The combination of the murmur and heartworms probably caused the fluid buildup. The coughing indicative of heartworms in dogs is generally caused by fluid on the lungs and he hacks and coughs FAIRLY regularly, but he's learned that he can do it for attention because he's a manipulative little turd so you never really know if it's real or not. The other night he did it for almost two hours straight and wouldn't stop and he had a "crackle" in his breathing so I knew something was wrong but he had stopped the next morning so I figured it was just a fit, then last night it got really really bad so we took a trip to the vet first thing this morning.

After the first vet visit I knew that he was going to have a ton of trouble and probably not live as long as most dogs but I do my best to keep him happy and ensure that he has a good life. We take a car ride at least once a day because he absolutely loves riding, he spends the day with my mom and their dog instead of staying locked up alone at home, he sleeps in the bed with me, and so on. I'm going to be devastated when he's gone but I knew what I was getting into on day 1 and decided that I didn't care. He brought me out of a really rough patch in my life, so I figured the least I could do is give him the best life possible.

I loved this because despite the health issues your sweet dog had/has, you rescued him and are giving him everything he needs to live a happy comfortable life. That really warms my heart and makes me smile. :)

Doggo had me up early this morning too. He didn't sleep last night and was breathing funny so we made an emergency vet visit this morning. Turns out he has fluid on his lungs. He's pretty upset with me but he feels so bad that he wants to lay in my lap so we're spending our rainy Sunday on the couch being lazy.
    Glad he's got you!! :)
