    Jan 31, 2017 - Local sales taxes are collected in 38 states. The five states with the highest average combined state and local sales tax rates are Louisiana (9.98 percent), Tennessee (9.46 percent), Arkansas (9.30 percent), Alabama (9.01 percent), and Washington (8.92 percent).

    Holy cow! We have 7.25% here in Texas, in my town. Outside of town, it's 6.75%. We have no state income tax, but pretty high property taxes. I can't believe that they want to jack up the sales tax to over 11%!!! If I lived there, and wanted to buy something expensive, I'd buy it in another state.

    So, the village where I work, the sales tax is now 8.85%.
    The county is trying to pass an addt'l 2%, and the state (IL) is trying to get another 1%.

    11.85% :blink:

    At that rate, you may as well move to British Columbia :) I wish I could, but the DH would never. Colorado was a bit more than we cared for, but that was mainly the state income tax that TX (where we retired) didn't have that.
