So... I wake up Wednesday morning with a godawful toothache that isn't going to let me go back to sleep. Take a handful of Excedrin and start in on the coffee. Head into work and notice a bit of swelling along the jaw line. Thursday comes around, and I figure I better start thinking about heading into a dentist. Swelling is a bit worse and the pain is beginning to enter the "just shoot me now" category. Friday AM, I say screw it and head into the ER. Pain is indescribable and I now can't eat as I can't open my mouth wide enough to get anything into it.
Get checked into the ER with a pulse of 154 and an astronomically high blood pressure reading. They whisk me off for tests and a CT scan, and by that evening I'm being wheeled into the OR. Swelling by now has reached into my neck and even with the "good stuff", the pain is indescribable. Never knew an abscessed tooth could reach epic proportions that quickly. Essentially, they yanked two teeth, drained the infection, and left a drainage tube in my jaw (which just came out on its own 30 minutes ago, but is still tethered in there via sutures. Wonderful.). Kept me yesterday for observation and cut me loose this afternoon. Luckily, I'm scheduled to go in first thing in the morning for the removal of the drainage tube, so I'm not going to make a big deal of it tonight.
Jaw is still sore as hell. They really did a number on the muscles going in and I still can't open my mouth to eat anything of substance due to the trauma to the tissue and muscle. Looks like I'm gonna lose that last 10 pounds quicker than I thought I would. And I'd just KILL for a pepperoni pizza right now. **sigh**
