Oh so quiet..........
Why is the modders forum so quiet at the moment?
I would guess that everybody is putting idea's together that they have seen over the last few months!
So what's happening on the Petercro front.
Unfortunately, mainly work
But when I have had time to play, the wife seems to have spring cleaning or decorating in mind, so I only get an hour or two late at night.
Most of my resent modding work has not been published, due to the extremely large amount of cockups I've made.
Gluing switches on up-side-down.
Melting mosfets.
Installing broken LED's
To name but a few.........
But here we go with the MK 5.12342568247594749939679397383634949 v2
That number is more accurate than you know.
Because I've been building only sections of mods to get them right.
For instance the battery compartment and lid is such a simple design, easy to build, looks and feels good. (22 different designs / attempts to get it this basic).
The push switch
(Thanks to DAVE-UK) for the link, is a micro switch which can handle 3 Amps at 125v AC, but the size is only 12.8 x 6.5 x 5.8mm.
With a good positive click.
(Clyde will like that).
The switch body is set flush with the outside of the mod.
No main switch (not needed)
I've made a slide cover.
Just push the cover up and it stops accidental activation.
The 3mm LED has its own compartment, build in resistor and is replaceable.
So if the LED dies or you just fancy a colour change it's reasonably easy to do.
(No soldering, Its push-fit (Will / Can NOT fall out)).
The -ve battery spring is directly soldered to one leg of a poly-fuse.
Which will and does trip out at a current greater than 2.2 Amps
(I've tested it by a direct short of an un-protected 18650 (Did-not go bang)).
(Thanks to Scottbee for poly-fuse idea)
The bottle is a 7.5ml eye-dropper bottle. It's just made to do this job.
(Thanks to Clumsy for the Link)
Inline atty injection
What can I say. It's perfect and it works. (No rubber tubing just brass)
One brass tube from battery connector to inside bottle cap.
One brass tube from eye-dropper to bottom of bottle.
No leaks on any of my test mods so far.
I've added a small dish around the atty to collect excess liquid which seeps out of the attie's air inlet holes. After squeezing the bottle.
(This dish holds the liquid in the perfect place. For when you take the next draw or so, the excess liquid is sucked back into the air holes and used by the atty).
(Thanks to Highping for the in-line atty and dish idea).
The body
PVC plumbers overflow pipe 19mm inside-diameter. (perfect for an 18650 and 7.5ml bottle)
Battery cover is the same pipe which has had a section removed from its length.
Switch cover, same pipe
I obtained some H shaped lengths of plastic from my local model shop.
This is used between the two plastic pipe sides to give a larger gluing surface area and to hide the wires.
Plastic buttons 19mm diameter 1mm thick, for top and bottom (stolen from my wife's crafting draw).
Glues
PVC pipe weld (A must have. As epoxy will not hold)
Super glue (Just to tack bits into place before final gluing)
5 minute Epoxy (To hold battery springs, LED socket, micro-switch, etc)
Fast cure Epoxy putty (To fill any holes, form liquid dish and support battery connector).
Conclusion.
I believe this design is as basic an easy to build as I can make it.
When I had the all the final design elements in my mind, it took me 4 hours to hand build. (NO power tools).
This unit will be worming its way into the hands of Clyde (the mod buster).
for review, and or destruction.
A few notes about the pics.
Yes the micro switch button is very very small.
I have large clumsy fingers and even I can hit it every time.
You can not see the 2 1/16 copper tubes that the LED plugs into. (but they are there).
The Spray paint I'm using takes a good 48 Hours to cure so just before I post the mod to Clyde I will put the battery cover and switch cover on and take another pic or two.
The LED looks really dim, but it is not, The picture was taken in bright sunlight.
Can't find my ruler at the moment so the i've not posted the dimensions but the
18650 gives you a good idea..
