Few days, few months, same difference. ;) It's not meant to be permanent, how's that? But it's nice to know they last so long. Makes me feel better for taking so much time fiddling with the silly thing to get it just right. At least I won't have to do it again for a good long while!

First KF coil and wick I made were perfect! Beginner's luck. Second one I made, Epic Fail. Third one and all others have taken quite a while to make, position and wick but all good now, every time. I got a lot of practice re-coiling and re-wicking ProTanks before the KF. ProTanks are the Devis's own invention when rebuilding them but it can be done. I mostly rebuild them while watching TV in the evening.

Omg you are so right! Damn things were the reason for so many new words. I must have sounded like Linda Blair every time I've tried doing it. Those things were the reason I went to RBAs. I can finally do a kanger coil but only because I don't let myself I'm a principled person. I still suck at it though. Every kanger I've rebuild leaks like a sic though. Lol but at least the fire lol

I have 3 pt heads waiting for rebuild. (and 32 ga kanthal) But then I also have 5 new ones (so 2-3 usable ones) and 3 in rotation. Eventually I'll get around to rebuilding them, but right now it's not worth it to me. I figure when I start running low, I'll give it a shot. It's not like they cost much. I do admit, however, it's why I keep buying protanks. Then all my heads match and I don't have to worry about which goes in what tank. I have a couple of pt3 heads I got with pt3's, but they're going to get retired. Too much bother with the dual coils.

But yeah, my first coil was a disaster. The second one I'm going to tear apart and try again. There's something wrong with it, but I was too enthusiastic to redo it at that time. Now that I have some better tools, I'll give it another shot. Probably while I'm waiting for my precious to arrive tomorrow. Keep me busy and out of trouble.

The Kayfun drove me absolutely insane for weeks. Different coils, different wicks......lots of reading and still a lot of fails. Protanks, no issue. It was so frustrating but I eventually got it to work okay. I do the same with watching tv :p

Really?, Kayfun was an easy setup over on this side. 30 gage 3mm microcoil,@ 1.6 ohms, 3mm ReadyX wick

I kept screwing up by torching the wire before I wrapped it. It took out the malleability of the wire and it wouldn't come together. Now I wrap it untorched; set it in place and pulse it. After it gets red hot I tweeze it together with either tweezers or needle nose and it sets in place nice and tight.... Like a tiger. On my p-thingie I just hold it let it get red and when it shuts itself off I tweeze. I repeat the process three times works every time.

Yeah, those little insulators are part of why I haven't tried rebuilding them yet. I'm not that coordinated. Not to mention the fact I just don't see as well as I used to. Getting old bites sometimes.

I was wondering about the whole torching thing and was thinking of trying it both ways. It's not like kanthal costs much.

Thank you, everyone, for the hints and tips. So much stuff goes flying off the boards so fast it's really hard to catch it.

So next time I give it a shot, I'm going to try it without torching the wire first and then wrap the ends around the posts. Then heat it and finish the coil. I think now, with knowing about wrapping the wire, I'll be a lot more willing to try more coils. But it was so frustrating to get them on there, I'd just put up with whatever stayed.

Thank you again! You've been a huge help. Now I just need to get my p-thingy and we'll be good.

24 hours to go ... not that I'm counting or anything. ;)

Lol- yeah might wanna give the carrier a tip too. Lmao.

Molson; that's exactly what I do, and I leave the coil on the wrapping tool right up until I'm ready to hear it and pull it together. Keaping it on they rod, bit ore whatever makes it allot easier, especially when you're looping the leg around the screw. It lets you manipulate the coil without it loosing its shape.

WoW; keep saying I'm going to get that fogger every time I see you post about it; then I see someone else's nightmare with it.

Yeah, I keep thinking a Fogger is going to be my next RBA. They look really nice and aren't crazy expensive.

However, that will probably wait until I have something else that can fire it! The little guys have too hard a time firing 28 ga, at least from what I've seen. Not to mention a Kayfun on a vv3 looks silly.

Been happy with just kayfun a since march. Now I'm just bored and want something different.
Man can not live on Cheerios for breakfast every day.
