We live in town. It's just a small town and we have to burn before sunset.

The bad part is during the Fall the smoke can get pretty thick from everyone burning leaves.

I actually keep waiting for them to make a law against it period.

Ya...I've seen 2 or 3 people burn yard debris nearby in the 8 years we've lived here. Ever since they opened the "green dump" a few blocks away, folks spend $4 per drop to unload their yard waste. We live in a city where there is a huge focus on conservation...been like that here for several generations.

If we bag our leaves and other yard waste, the city will pick it up for free. We do that. This is the first time in a long time that we burned and that was just to get rid of personal papers (the kind of stuff that we didn't want to garbage).
We could have shredded but it was just too much to do.

Then there was a lot of stuff that the kids took and then the stuff we took to the Mission Mart. The house is sighing in relief. :)

Ya...our city is more into making money. :glare: We have to deliver it to the green dump and then pay to dump it. Curbside recycling isn't free either. So I spend the gas and take it to re-comp where it is free. You know we pay a "rain tax" too..it's added to the property tax.

What the devil is a rain tax?!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL...they figure it based on the amount of rain fall each year and the surface area of your property...they figure we need to pay for how much storm water comes from our property and rolls through the system or down the street in some cases. Nice, huh?

WOOT, WOOT, WOOT... finally made it home from the land of flatlanders! I almost forgot how good it feels to be where there's no oxygen... ya move quicker, less drag don't ya know.

Picked up the truck from the repair shop yesterday at 5PM, headed out at 5:30, drove straight through all night and was greeted by the sight of 4 elk standing in my driveway at 9 this morning. (Never underestimate us old people, we know how to get things done.)

Had a whole bunch of vapemail, (who the hell thinks up these terms?), waiting for me but the one I was most interested in was the 'signature required' priority box. Tore into it with the excitement of a teenager on his wedding night.

And much like the wife of that teenager was left wanting in a state of utter disappointment.

Mr. O'Neil, Rob, The Modmaster, The Yankee from the Land of Trees, The Grand Poobah, The Chief Nut of All Reonuts, The Egg-roll Consumer has apparently fallen victim to the ravages of senility. The box that I had so coveted, the reason for my NASCAR pace setting, 800 mile dash home did not contain what I expected! Oh the horror, the inhumanity of it all!!!

I had ordered a 'blemished, polished, Reo Mini'. Is that what the box contained? Nay, nay I say... it did not!

There is not a blemish to be found on its flawless skin! Not a blemish nor pimple, nor scratch, nor mar or even slight skin irritation... nothing but smooth, image reflecting polished aluminum. (I can only assume that an 'unblemished' polished Mini comes with a personal man servant... in the form of a maid of course, replete with frilly French uniform. I wonder how much more that would have been?)

As a welcoming gesture into the household I have given it the honor of providing me with vaping pleasure whilst I recline on the couch and enjoy the NASCAR race from Dover. It will be snuggled in my shirt pocket Wednesday night as I trip the light fantastic at the club.

I'm probably going to have to get some sleep before that I suppose.

Oh, Jen, congratulations on promotion to Veteran. (I have absolutely no idea what it means but congratulations anyway.)

Welcome back Jack and as usual your funny ... story had me going even funnier is the fact me and Kay were just sitting around talking about the supposed blemishes on our VVG'S and maybe in the future he should sell them at regular price and give you the discount if you can find these alleged blemishes

Well NO!!!!

And that is sort of ridiculous!!!

And never heard of it before!
 It probably wouldn't be such a burr in the behind if they just rolled it into another tax and didn't call it that. If we didn't know about it, we probably wouldn't grit our teeth every time we think about it. We understand that the view and our climate make this a great place to live, but with it also comes a lot of high maint infrastructure. So sure, we're going to pay more to live here. But sometimes it's just easier to name a tax something generic, then list all the things it pays for below it.
