UPDATE on today's mystery recipe:

I checked it to season it after 5 hours, and it needed a bit more salt and pepper. But it was still missing "something" so I added a dash of Worcestershire, since that is sometimes used in the real dish. It added some depth.

It is very thin, and as Alice was saying, I may need to thicken it. Since it only has an hour or so to go, I won't be using flour unless I dirty up a pan to cook it, raw flour added with no time to cook would be nasty. I will have to use some cornstarch since it doesn't require cooking and can be done right before serving. Or maybe even better to use instant potatoes, those work very well to thicken and will go well with -- potatoes. I will wait for DH to get home from work to see what he thinks about the flavor and soupiness.

Stay tuned for the verdict from the men

Corn starch is so much easier than other things I agree. Instant potatoes great idea. DH will be working locally next few months so I'll be "playing" more in kitchen. Really looking forward to it.

As DH will be here to mind to venomous snake bites hoping to make my trip down to Mexico (and carrying loads of vaping gear). Friend's daughter, a very good friend of mine, who lives in Alaska, will be there for whole month of June so even more incentive to get down there. I miss them all very much.

Time to pic out the "donner" REOs and guess I'm gonna have to order some RM2s. Only the best and least likely to cause problems. Need to put some A7s on classies to help fund. Will give notice.

Evening everyone
Don't know if I can post this here, if not I apologise
My son was in the army for nearly 10 years
Served in the drum platoon, of the second battalion, of the royal regiment of fusiliers good friends with the soldier who was murdered on the street in London yesterday
Son is very upset, but my heart goes out to the young soldiers 2 year old son
The man killed served two tours of duty, in Afghanistan, unscathed, then to be murdered on the street, for no other reason, than that he served his country, is deplorable
Frank

Hi Frank,

I heard about that this morning on NPR. So sorry to hear.
Such a tragedy. And this was particularly horrific.
God bless the woman who confronted the killers.

Prayers for his family, for your son's traumatic loss of a friend and for an end to this extremism.
We lived in East Anglia for four years until 2009 when DH worked in London.

May God rest his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed.

The old lie 'dulce et decorum est pro patria mori' - Wilfred Owen

T

How apropos.

(My apologies for posting the poem in its entirety, but it is truly one of the most eloquent, touching war poems of all time.)

getimage

DULCE ET DECORUM EST by WILFRED OWEN

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind.

Gas! Gas! Quick, boys!---An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling,
And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime...
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,---
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

Okay, the results are in. The chicken was very moist, best results yet in a crockpot. It was too watery, so I added instant potatoes to thicken it. In addition, we all thought it was bland.

So I added some Garam Masala, and that improved it immensely. It made a huge difference flavorwise. I don't use it a lot, but since it goes with chicken and yogurt and is a blend, I chose it for this. And it worked. I think it would be even better if cooked in all day. In the future, I would probably saute the spice, then the onion, then the garlic, then add the wine to deglaze before I put it in a bowl to add the rest of the ingredients that I pour over the chicken. Then crock on low for the 6 hours.

Night gang! Have a sound sleep when you get there...

Good night Ed, sleep well :)

Evening folks, just got back from termite inspection. Only place they found termite damage was the storage closet doors inside the carport, and dead termites at that. Clean bill o' health as far as I'm concerned. Inspector kept complimenting the condition of the house for its age and will try my best to maintain it. :)

The guy started showing us cleaning products for the car, clean headlight lens and a thing called phony chamois (needs to be machine washed several times) which was great to dry water off a car. All in all a pleasurable time there. :)

Hey Pat. I've been canefighting since 1997. Mostly just for exercise and because its the only legal weapon you can carry anywhere.(you just cant claim its a weapon of course) I'm pretty sure nunchaku, bo staff, escrima sticks and butterflys knives are on the "no fly" list lol. I've got some videos I made, on my office computer but I'm not sure if its ok to post them here.

As long as they are not considered advertisements, it should be okay. Hi all...just catching up.

Frank...that was awful....I heard about that and just immediately felt mortified. I sure hope your son can find some peace. And yes, you can post this here. Sending love and patience your way.

Hmm skagit bridge collapsed. I wonder how close that is to Lisa ? Hope everyone's ok.

Close enough...I'm okay. Usually, I would have been across that bridge twice today...but decided to go west to the islands instead. It is doubtful that I would have been in the vicinity at the time of the collapse, but you never know. I'm just thankful I went to Oak Harbor and Anacortes today. It collapsed about an hour after I got home. One of my clients was one of the last few who made it across the bridge before it collapsed though....spooky. I just feel awful for those who went down with the bridge. It looks like there are currently, no fatalities. Truck hit the girder which knocked the bridge section loose and down it went. About 70,000 cars and trucks cross that bridge every day. About an hour before this happened that bridge was packed with rush hour traffic.

The fun part is my routes tomorrow take me down past that bridge....I have to go to Stanwood, Camano Island, La Conner, Mount Vernon and Burlington. So I'm still working through how I'm going to manage that. I have to stop at our warehouse which is about 2 blocks from the wreckage. So it's going to be a challenge for sure.

This bridge is about a 30 minute drive south of us.

Well if that isn't the best excuse NOT to go to those sights and take the day off, I don't know what is!

Glad to hear everyone is okay!

3 people were hospitalized with minor injuries...so all in all...very good news. A car, a truck and a travel trailer went down with the section. Amazing that there was no one killed.

I'm doing okay....just sitting here is a small state of shock. Tired, but now overtly aware. I'm going to have a hard time getting to sleep as I anticipate my travels in that area tomorrow.

How are you, my friend? :)
