I haven't been to Montreal in far too long. As a young wild man I used to make that trip regularly, but lately have been exploring farther east & west.

I've taken several motorcycle tours from Toronto to Prince Edward Island & Nova Scotia. We couldn't have better neighbors.

Sloth, put Ottawa in your itinerary. I usually avoid cities, but that is a good one.
It is on there and moreso now that you say it. Thanks man.

NS was so awesome I almost did not come back. But, the ADKs are pretty awesome.

I have a Discovery pass for Canadian National parks. Good through 2018. Chrissy and I intend to visit the west sometime next year - BC and Alberta. I sincerely hope we can meet, my friend.

If you do make it out, just let me know. A meeting with the Sloth and his (much) better half would be a highlight.

We have plenty of mountains. I know you like to run up and down them.

There's some of them in the background of this pic that was taken (not by me) very close to my house...

Dude. The only problem with that visit is I may not come back. You got room for 2? Western Canada looks outrageous.

Unrelated and random, but...Tupac was amazing.

It is just true.

We have room for, like, 20 million more. Outside of about 3 cities, there's nothing but space. You'd like that.

Tupac would've, too.

I love Quebec Province. Years ago, when I was into rallying and attending auto races, I used to go up through to Mt. Tremblant/St. Jovite many times. The Canadian Grand Prix used to be there every other year, alternating with Mossport, Ontario. Those French Canadians sure knew how to party!

Montreal is prolly North America's most European city. English is spoken in the minority. French (obviously), German, Greek, Spanish, you name it.
Sounds a lot like L.A. except its Spanish, (obviously), Korean, Vietnamese, Arabic, and a few others!! English is "VERY" low on the totem pole...

Especially the ones that liked camping, going to car races, and partying like rock stars.
Those were the days...
Yup, that's my wife except the car races. She's 45 going on 21.:D

Canadian chicks do indeed rock. :thumb:

Heh - my issues with paper (actually, it's plastic here in Canada) money are 1) having to go to ATM's - inconvenient and costly surcharges, and 2) change. On the latter point, we have many taxes on purchased goods, none of which result in a round final price. Unless you keep a change purse and pick through it with every transaction, you end up with a pocket full of jingle every day - a physical tax byproduct, if you will, that puts the onus to manage on you.

Petty issues, I suppose (other than the real cost of using ATM's), but it is so easy here to buy things with most any type of card. Tap and go. No menu to traverse, no codes to enter, no swiping or inserting, just hold your card to the reader and be on your way. It's a fraction of the friction (that sounds like Dr Seuss) of using money and available in about 95% of all retail stores up here, or at least where I hang out (and I live on an island off of an island).
wow, that would be weird to have bills made of plastic. Yeah the change is a lil bit of a pain. And probably most folks here use debit cards most of the time for purchases. Some of em you can just tap, or at least that's what I've seen on TV. Even just tapping your cell phone on sumpthin, but that is freaky to me. We do have a big problem, as I expect most places do, with phishers or scanners or whatever ya call em, where someone just walks past you and copies your card in your purse or wallet if it's not in one of those rfid things or whatever the initials are. Also things added onto card readers at gas stations to copy your card info and see your pin that you enter. Most POS still have pins to enter, but a lotta fast food places don't anymore. Maybe they dropped too many of the keypad thingies out the drive through windows. lol Not that I'm buying anything nefarious, but I like the anonymity of cash. No data warehouse storing every purchase I make.

For awhile so many places bugged you about signing up for their discount card, and they tried to make you give em your phone number to make a purchase. I don't get out much anymore, but I don't think that's as prevalent as it used to be. One of my fav comedians, John Pinette did a skit about that. Remember when ya could just go in a store, give em money and walk out with your stuff hehehe

Y'alls money is really pretty! I did look up images for Australia and NZ too. It really has always bugged me that our money is so ugly. Not that it really matters, but some is so pretty. I would love to visit so many places in Europe and other places that have ancient buildings etc. My son did get to go to the Ziggurat in Ur where Abraham was from, when he was deployed.

That's beautiful!! Just too bad it's so dang cold! I've only been to Canada one time. Before ya needed a passport. And it was just to cross into it and look at the lights at Niagra Falls from the Canadian side for about an hour. Only time I've ever been outta the country.

gotcha. On the porch so much of the rayon talk has been of trimming just so like Jeremy says So I thought ya had to for it to perform better.

I don't do any trimming, or shaping, or fluffing of any wicks. Ever. I do cut rayon a triffle thicker than cotton & kinda spread it out a little. It wicks fine. I've used it in my Reo, & my regulated mods & there's no difference that I can tell. The only issue I have is that strange bit of background taste. I'll use it in a pinch, which is why I have a small box in my stash.

I just pull cash when I make a purchase with plastic. Most places here offer the option of getting cash in $20 increments up to $100 (I think it is) when you check out. No service charge like at an atm. If I want cash I just buy something small like breath mints or something I would get anyway. There are some places that don't accept cards at all or unless you spend over a certain amount.

Jup, that's how I would always get cash too. Only times I ever went to an ATM was when I had a drive through one right down the street for my bank, so there were no fees at all. I've always referred to the stores as first national walmart and first national HEB

Canada, per se, is, indeed, cold. We live in the most temperate part, though - identical weather to Seattle and Portland.

i would have said we never get any snow, but this winter has set records for the stuff (for us). A bizarre cold front settled in and stayed for weeks.

My wife does that - she stills likes walking around with a little mad money. Myself, I just found I could cut out all the middle work. Cash in bank. Cash goes from bank to vendor via card - no need for me to hold it temporarily.

As for security, I use a credit card I got specifically for this. $500 limit I pay off every month (so no interest charges), very good fraud detection and customer support (ie, I would never pay for fraudulent charges). It's with a bank I have no other dealings with, so no (or at least little) risk of collateral banking hacks or fraud. I also carry the card in a rf blocking pocket case, so no drive-by skimming of data.

There honestly isn't any place in my little world that doesn't take a card of some sort.

Having said all that, it's a personal peccadillo of mine, I freely admit :)
