My XL got Kicked today! =D

It's like a whole different vape. Some of the cartos that I surrendered to gunk have been resurrected, too! I wonder how much longer cartos will last with the Kick. This thing is the best $45 I've spent on vaping. Consistent hot batt hits on the XL? YES PLEEZ!!

With the gap at the top of the battery compartment, the kick is piinched between the battery and the potentiometer, and I didn't hink it seemed too sturdy. I wanted a little firmer foundation, so I used a nylon bushing and cut the length down to match the height of the pot. I also used a tiny piece of 3M double-sided tape on the side of the kick beside the neg spring, so as to hold the spring to my homemade neg plate more firmly. Because the VmodXL isn't a tube mod, the kick wanted to wiggle a little and that saparated to neg connection. Now, the kick is attached to the XL somewhat permanently, leaving less fiddling when swapping batts.

What kind of run-times are y'all getting? Yesterday, when it got here, I cranked it up to 10 and vaped with a hot, brand-new battery and it seemed lik the kick started telling me it was petering out after only 3hrs! I swapped batts for another that was hot off the charger and got 5hrs run-time. The 3hrs may have been due to the faulty neg connection. I'd like to know everyone's results so far.

OK VModians, I need your advice/input/help:

I've been wanting a VMod for a while now and hoping to get one when the IRS gives me some money! I also want to put a Kick in it. Now here's the part I need help with ---> I've only seen pics/videos online, never held a VMod in real life, so I'm not sure if what I want to do is possible! I'd like to take an XL and cut it down so that it fits a Kick + an 18350. I did a mock-up of what it'd sorta look like in photoshop, but obviously the dimensions may be slightly off.

Ideally the extra length with be removed from the "sleeve" in 2 spots. Some of it out of the squeeze port area and some from below that. So what's the sleeve made out of? Aluminum? Plastic? Would it just be easier to have a new sleeve fabricated than to modify a stock one?

Also, I take it the bottom chassis plate is plastic? If a hole is drill into it to allow the bottle to slide out, would the remaining material be too thin and potentially break? I'm thinking that doing a new bottom plate out of aluminum might be less "risky".

Thoughts/ideas/advice/etc???

Thanks!

Here's the mock-up:

Wow. That's a lot of work to make it 1/2" shorter -- and you'd have to change the batteries frequently.

I don't think you can effectively cut the sleeve/body/shell effectively anywhere but the bottom and there would be enough room to do so. Plus, the hole is positioned correctly for squeezing the bottle. The shell/body is a molded one piece and fits around the chimney hole on the top. The Chimney and Cone are what holds the shell/body on the mod.

I do not know if this plastic does well with being cut.

Honestly, no offense, but this seems like one of the least useful mod ideas I've seen in a while. The small battery will be a nuisance to keep changing. The structural changes will weaken the base. The whole plastic innards are correctly sized with the hole in the outer shell, and everything snaps together nicely, aluminum on plastic body. The plastic in itself is not that thick, or strong. The Vmod is rigid, but it's because everything fits precisely together. Plus it fits very well in your hand as it is. A shorter body would not be as nice to grasp and push the button on, you tend to use your little finger for leverage. If you put a kick in it, you have to use a smaller battery already, but it's still a decent sized 18490. An 18350 is not a lot of battery, especially on a VV regulator. And with a good atomizer like an HH.357, the Vmod XL gives a purdy darned good vape on an unregulated battery. Just wait until you have one, and use it for a few hours, you'll see that it's very good the way it is. Then you can better think about what to do next.

Mike, I'm not sure why you want to cut down the XL. Why not Kopper Kick-o-phy it with the 18650? It's an idea, but I'm not sure it's worth the time/effort/expense.

Because it's too large (for ME). The non-XL is a better size, but I can't put VW into it.

I rarely leave the house for more than 2 hours at a time, and have practically zero concern about battery life. As long as I can get 1-2 hours off a battery, I'd be happy. What IS very important to me is the overall size of the unit and I know if it's too bulky I won't use it. That's one thing that's attracted me to the VMod is how pocket friendly it appears, but it's still larger than I'd like.

You're probably right though about it being more work than it's worth. I'm probably better off just building a small bottom feeder (I built myself a small tank pv but wanted to try bottom feeding to see if I like it). That way I can get it the size I want from the start.

Thanks all for the responses!

I here you, but it really isn't that big at all. I have no problem holding the XL in the palm of my hand. Plus the extra time you get on the battery is extremely dramatic!
Yep! I like the size of the 14500 one MUCH better, but I want VW too (I want... I want... I want...)!

I actually understand, Mike! And feel much the same way. Would it be lovely to have a VW or even VV device the size of the Junior, and with a battery that lasted 17 days!

Like you, I have little concern for batt time. I have many mods around the house and never carry less than 5 in my purse at any time. For purse compatibility, I use the Junior, not the XL. I find the XL a bit too large for me, too.

Keep us posted on your search/creation!

Will do! I actually built my first mod awhile back and it has all the requirements I want. It's pocket friendly, can use a Kick, can use different batteries, etc. I didn't want to attempt anything too complicated for my first try so it uses a tank, but maybe I should built another with a bottom feeder since it seems there's nothing currently commercially available that does exactly what I want.

Here's the design of it with a Kick:

Using a roughly 4ml tank, I can get it the size of the 18490 one I made (though this one is not Kicked):
18500-1-1.jpg

18500-2-1.jpg

And here's MY ideal size (it uses an 18350 instead of the wood one that uses an 18490/18500):

18350-3-1.jpg

18350-5-1.jpg

18350-4-1.jpg

But I was hoping to go bottom-feeder and the VMod looks perfect except the size. I wonder if Brian has any chassis that are broken or spares that I could get to use as a starting point? That'd be helpful but likely I'll just end up having to attempt to make my own (without the cool VMod feed chamber system :( )
