The whole reason the 510 to 510 would need to be modded is the VMod is not like a typical bottom feeder that feeds through the bottom of the atty. It actually is feeding thru the little side holes on the atty, so you have to drill a hole thru the side(where an atty has it) and into the center tube of the adapter so it will feed into the center of the atty. I have already done this to a 901 adapter to use 901's(my fave's
) on my XL. And thanks for the links racehorse, I just should have been clearer. I meant I couldn't find one amongst my supplies so I could test it out.

Did you try them first? Tilt it and give it a good press and see if it floods the atty. It's one way to find out if they'll work(haven't tried the AVA myself). If you have one of the new Shifu atty's, take a look at the bottom of one. There's four slots where the shell slides over the connector, thats where it is feeding thru, not the bottom hole.Whoa, hang on! Honestly I didn't think to try them as I ordered them at the same time, plus I've always known that bottom-feeders require open-center attys/cartos, but of course I didn't think about how the Vmod was designed differently.
I finally found a couple, and it is the 510 shorty that will work attached to phoenix in order to hold the shell down without the cone. I got it to fire properly, now it's just a matter of drilling it and the phoenix to feed, as soon as I can find some time

Final update: 8/8/12 to 9/13/12. One Shi-fu- no maintenance, nothing. It never even got unscrewed fom my VMod. The funny thing is that it didn't even pop. I've been under the weather and my sense of taste was gone because of it. Got a big dry hit a couple of times, because I couldn't taste very well, then it tasted burnt afterward. Not sure how long it tasted burnt, didn't notice until I got better. Since that flavor never leaves an atty, I tossed it, popped in a new one, popped in a fresh battery, and raided my stash of BWB RY4 to fill the bottle. Nomnomnomnomnomnomnom.
As always, YMMV, but this test showed me a killer atty.

My update is this: I still love this product. I can't help myself.
I believe the developer of this product has the best of intentions in mind, both in creating these products, and for his end users nd customers.
In other words, an all-around great guy. I also believe that (if and when) any new stuff is developed by the Shifu master, it will be equally useable and delightful. So, I gotta stick around 
Despite my somewhat *uneven* encounter with CS I guess it's one of those things and depends on the day and who you get.
Despite that there was some disagreement between myself and CS as to the timeline returning some new-in-package batteries, is has been solved, and since I not only like the Vmod itself, but also the Shifu hybrid atty and the Silos, I will remain loyal to the products.......because, for me, it all *works*.......and navigate around and through some of the CS stuff.
I have some 650mAH ego batts for backup. So I guess I'm all set for now.
It is interesting to read accounts form vaporers on ECF, some have thrown over their bottom feeders for eGo Twists, and yet I have done the opposite. Just goes to prove, there is a lid for every pot and we are all just pots looking for the best fitting lid---whether it be juice or hardware. What is the fun and educational part of being on ECF, is that there is so much to be learned by reading about the experiences of others, and the depth and ingenuity with which everyone shares so freely and deeply with one another.
Sometimes you just fall in love with rig and setup that works for you, and for good or bad, that is what happened to me with the Vmod products. It's sort of like good boyfriends, bad boyfriends, the story isn't written in one day. ROTFL
