I've also found there's a real benefit of using an abrasive. Whatever the wire drawing lubricant is it's pretty adherent. I think part of that comes from the fact that most manufacturers don't change the wire drawing tool all that often and it gets "dull" When they do that the wire surface is a little more rough which means stuff sticks in the little hills and valleys more. It's no big deal to use a little abrasive on the wire and I do it for everything now.
I also do the same as you with the little bit of heating. There still seems to be a whif of something organic left over even after all the cleaning. Short low power pulses and no glow seems to do the job.

Duane

I am doing the same as you guys but in reverse now

Heating with a lamp till yellow sometimes till blue

Then cleaning with alcohol wipes, first one a little black , 2nd to finish it off is nearly clean

It appears from doing it the other way before that heating with the lamp first is burning off some of the lubricant as its far easier to clean this way

Btw I have the dirty zivipf too

I will always be unbiased :) Being a beta tester merely means I will point out how everything could be better before release. (Quite possibly with exactly the same result :) )

With you beta testing this is only going one of two ways

Either Yihi go into hiding & never let a beta tester near their kit again

Or the next update released for the M class will be the last it will ever need

Unfortunately most manufacturers will plain ignore beta testers feedback if the issue seems, TO THEM, being minor or if the effort on their part has to be bigger than what they expected initially.

Been there, done that.

You can't actually blame betas for things they found at that stage if they probably were ignored.

No company responds to 100% of betas feedback. Only way to make the manufacturer accept 100% a change is to make sure all (or a high percentage) of betas giving back the same feedback.

Not easy as many manufacturers don't tell betas who their partners are.

Tony

Just tried some TI#1 24ga I got from Unkamen. Washed with soap, water and a scrubby, then alcohol pad. No black marks. Using an IPV4 (sx330 TC chip) Dual coil 2mm in a goblin. Pulsed at 275F to get ride of any organics from the coiling. No oxides of any colors. Used a very familiar juice (250F, 30joules, 0.095 ohms) and got a funny taste. Cleaned and rebuilt my other goblin with dual claptons (27ga wrapped with 36ga both kanthal, .35ohms, 43 watts) Same juice, same bottle, great taste, what I expected. Cotton bacon for wick for both. Tried em side by side - still funny taste from the TI, You guys have any ideas?

My only guess is that you like kanthal Claptons better. :)

I tried claptons & multi strand twisted & it dont seem to work straight off

Shorting throws the locked resistance out at the start or shorting during vaping messes it up

Ti works best for me with standard coils, I use spaced

If you want fancy coils best stick with kanthal as mentioned above

Would definitely recommend having another go though with a standard coil ... your be surprised :)

Ouch
I have yet to try Ti. That is why I follow this thread. Part of my homework:)
But this is a bad news that Ti Claptons don't really work:(

They might if the wire is properly torched before the build.

I have some full contact Ti coils working for over a month without any change in resistance.

Ti actually doesn't taste (I can taste kanthal) so there is a difference in the vape... Sometimes the 'lack' of something might be perceived as something 'weird' or 'different'.

Kinda like rayon... You can definitely taste a crappy juice that seemed to be mellowed down with Ekowool for example.

The claptons were in kanthal. any ideas about the the off flavor from the (plain vanilla) TI coils?

This sounds like it's possible, my off taste being actually the absence of the kanthal taste. Haven't experienced anything like it from the NI200 though. I have some 28ga coming in a few days, I'll try again with that.

Yeah maybe they can be made to work

Unlike with kanthal where you can just tighten the coil down as one

I think the way forward maybe to get both wire ends cleaned & having their own solid contact under the screws

And as you said Tony, get the wire oxidised first properly

I did try a few times as I do like claptons but gave up in the end as its just so easy to chuck in a standard Ti coil, forget about it and vape all week

Twisted was working well for a while albeit a very hot vape with twin 26awg

Then it started randomly shorting and got pulled ... back to standard it was

I seem to find I get a cooler but same volume effect from a single 26awg 3mm Ti as I would get from a dual kanthal
