I don't enjoy animals eating each other (well, I don't enjoy watching it) in fact when the husband puts on Planet Earth III (whatever number) I just call it "animal (censored)" because it's all either mating or eating, or both.

I eat meat though, so I consider myself a total hypocrite on the matter. I'm sure a visit to a slaughterhouse would cure me, but I'm not so sure I want to be "cured" although I do go for free range meat when I can. Etc.

I do eat meat but I'd like the animals to at least live some kind of life first. And I'd like for them to be treated humanely while they are being raised.

That is a beautiful thought, but you know that this is not the reality for most of the cases ...
We have all the reasons in the world to not eat meat, for me just 3 are enough: animals,
planet,
health ...

Peace

If God didn't want us to eat meat, why did he make animals so dang tasty?!

:)

Heck, I don't know, maybe to tempt us away from the socially approved dietary restrictions. If so, God succeeded, I was tempted and I yielded to those temptations.

I would add the incredible cruelty with which all "meat" animals are raised and killed (cows, chickens, etc). I would also that these animals are pumped full of hormones and antibiotics…hormones to make them grow faster and antibiotics to prevent the diseases these animals could get from the high stress levels with which they live…from the feedlot to the slaughterhouse.
Ok, I'll shut up now because this subject is so :offtopic:

Bea, I cannot disagree with your thoughts, every point you made is well taken. There could be changes my father and grandfather were a cattlemen in Kansas, where I grew up, they did not do it that way. But that was long ago (I am seventy-three) and he and his father were small ranchers, they had a symbiotic and unique relationship with their animals. I learned it but did not follow in their steps. The death of the animals was part of life but their end was not a remorseless death.

You may disagree with this but I am not without sympathy to your thoughts. I eat beef, it is never without some consideration for the animal that died, I learned it from my progenitors.

Came to this thread to see what tootle-puffers talk about and it seems I've come across a fascinating discussion on the morality of eating meat. Hmm.

I love meat. It tastes good. Can't say I'm a fan of animal cruelty in any form though, but what can you do? If we all stopped eating meat today what would happen to the animals? Livestock can't exactly be turned loose in the wild and be expected to survive.

In other news...I'm Nate if you don't know me. I tried the sub-ohm thing once and didn't like it very much. Now I'm using a mod that goes as low as 10 watts. I like that better. I saw an ad for a mod that goes up to 235 watts. Now, however it works for you I'm going to try not to judge. But that's insane.

I live out in the country and only but meat from the local slaughter house. I see these animals in the fields, I know the people who raise them ( not intimately, but to say hello, to know their standards of care).

Family farms do exist, where animals are not mistreated Or overdosed on antibiotics or hormones. Humane methods of killing are used. Yes, humane. Animals eat animals. The only difference between humans and other animals is that others don’t abuse their meals. No reason we have to, either, and we can make a conscious choice not to.

I respect if people choose not to eat meat. My daughter is a very respectful vegan.

I do not respect when people make blanket statements that are not true, either way.

Threads go off topic often, and it’s usually not a big deal, but personally I’m not a fan of misinformed meat-eater bashing.

Totally agree with you…it's the abuse to which I object. Eating or not eating meat is a personal choice and neither should be criticized for it.

Personally I don't object to people eating animals when they are raised and killed humanely as in the way you describe. I only object to the commercial way today's food animals are raised and killed I mentioned in my post. I should have made that clear.
