Trolls on ECF?

Trolling is the art of throwing out a post that will generate a slew of responses, and discussion, while the troll may even slink away.

Hmm, take this thread for example, DC2 made a simple statement in a post and generated 108 responses in a few hours, even was able to get a few moderators to "feed the troll".....

DC2 is an expert at this...J'accuse....J'accuse...........
But his topics are always interesting and well presented and reasoned, worth following, such is the dilemma in defining a troll.

I prefer to think of it in terms of finely aged...the old adage is true.

If I had the wits and wisdom I have now at age 24, I would have been a juggernaut! However, wisdom is gained by experience. I would never want a do-over so I guess that means I will have to be content being finely aged....

I have a question about this... I have 2, what I thought were 'infractions,' but there don't seem to be any points attached, so I guess they were just reminders -- do they ever fall off completely? Or do we have to look at them forever everytime we go to the My Settings page?

Just avoid clicking on your Infractions tab. Nobody else can see it.

Trolling implies a certain hidden agenda to me. BT and BP would never bother - they have openly advertised to pay vapers that have had any side effects to contact them and get paid to tell their stories!

I much prefer a good old saute'ed trolling, which at least teaches me a few recipes, rather than the usual diet of misinformation and spurious links i can get from the media.

And never confuse trolling with a bloody good argument as to the merits of different hardware. i say potato...

Nothing wrong with a good argument as long as both sides are arguing constructively. It's the "bounces off me and sticks to you" ones that drive me nuts.

I'm of the belief that proper trolling is an art form. I'm pretty good at it myself as I like to troll ultra right wing forums, ultra right wing BlogTalk Radio shows and anything else that might live on the internet under the guise of racism or xenophobia (Second Life is one of my favourite hunting grounds). First and foremost, I'm a decent guy (or I try to be), a husband, dad, son, friend and vaper. I like to come to ECF to chill and share stories and tips with like-minded people and I haven't seen much in the way of troll activity in my time spent here; at least not to a decent level of trolling that I would pay attention to.

With all things internet these days, the word "troll" is now used incorrectly. Someone says something that other people dislike? Troll. Call someone out for making other people feel uncomfortable? The accuser becomes the troll. Disagree with someone during a discussion? You're now a troll. I've seen some amazing trolling that's caused online communities to collapse in on themselves with a few sentences and most of the "trolling" accusations I see being pinged around these days are just weak. In my humble opinion, only.

If you guys would like a laugh, look up YouTube for "Estaban Winsmore" and other Second Life trolling. It's amazing just how crafty and even classy some trolls can be.

I didn't start out to be a Troll. But I can remember the first time I posted (and ClassWife edited me) on the ECF. It seemed so new, so exciting...
I kept going back for more ECF. I seemed to spend more and more time there. My wife began to complain about the amount of time I spend on the Computer, but I really didn't listen. It seemed harmless at first, it really did....
So what if someone knew more about Whole Tobacco Alkaloids, or Regulated Mods. I was enjoying myself, without harming anyone. Arrogance can always be made to look like stupidity, with the right amount of brevity added. I was just having fun....
Then I met 'HIM'. Or 'It'. Or 'The One whose Name cannot be Mentioned' The TRUE Australian Devil, whose unisex avatar was enough to throw you off anyways, let alone what "It" posted. Long nights of 'It' trolling the entire ECF, followed by long mornings of Moderators undoing the Havoc created by The One whose Name cannot be Mentioned. I'll never be that bad, no way I could ever be that bad.....
Yea, right. Try referring to an ECF approved Vendor as "I guess 'Convict' doesn't look good on a Resume." and see how far that will bet you.
Try having a Moderator threaten to shut down the thread you happen to be enjoying at the time.....
I KNOW my juices taste better because I'M the One who is Vaping Them !!! and if you won't listen to me, I'll just have to put you in your place!
I KNOW my equipment is Superior to that piddling little excuse you call a Mod, and I will have to Enlighten You !


That was then, this is now. I have found a better way, with the help of ECF Moderators. I an truly blessed today with ECF.
