Just checked and you got a rule reminder. No infraction. No points associated with RR's. The expiration date just kinda tags along. If it was an infraction, then the expiration date is valid and the point(s) associated with the infraction would then expire.

Basically a rule reminder is just that...a gentle way of letting you know what the rules are. :)

Think of it as a nudge instead of a slap on the hand. ;)
A PM would be a whisper in the ear.

Jerry has been around for almost 5 years, and it's become a sort of a joke that he does not have a single Reminder/Infraction yet. Does that mean he is flawless? no.. it just means that he knows how to play within the rules. Not that hard once you get that part figured out.

I totally agree it's the lightest infraction possible... the only thing lighter would have been a private warning of impending infraction such as a PM, I do get and appreciate that.

This thread might have wandered from the topic... but DC2 is a good ECF-er and probably won't be too bummed.

I've had a couple of infractions. Both surprised me. -- I've deserved a couple of dozen infractions that never came, so I guess I'm probably better off counting blessings and such.

My first infraction was from Cozzicon. I miss Coz. He was also a good ECF-er and a good device reviewer. He busted me for quoting someone else who used bad language. I was completely caught off guard... but I learned to be careful when quoting and to trim quotes.

My other infraction was more recent, and I was kindly reminded that criticizing moderation is also against the rules, so description of that one will have to wait (just to be on the safe side and not be thought to be criticizing) another year or so...

My only point is what I said at first: I've deserved some infractions I never received... the mods here have been pretty understanding and pretty good to me.

Trolling is the art of throwing out a post that will generate a slew of responses, and discussion, while the troll may even slink away.

Hmm, take this thread for example, DC2 made a simple statement in a post and generated 108 responses in a few hours, even was able to get a few moderators to "feed the troll".....

DC2 is an expert at this...J'accuse....J'accuse...........
But his topics are always interesting and well presented and reasoned, worth following, such is the dilemma in defining a troll.

Yup, the moderators here are a good group. It's true that moderators or ECF moderation cannot be criticized in the open forum, but if you have a problem with a moderator, you can discuss it in private with them.

What we all have to remember, is that the moderators are human, not machines. While they do a great job, on occasion they may make a mistake or two. Without going into detail, I did get an unofficial scolding from a former forum manager, that I felt was uncalled for. I explained my position to the forum manager and that was the end of it.

From wiki...

"In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,[1] by posting inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[3] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion."

So based on this, there is intent to provoke, disrupt and upset people.

Disagreeing is not trolling...being rude and arrogant while you are disagreeing could be considered trolling.

Stating a difference of opinion is not necessarily trolling but if it is off-topic or in the wrong thread it is....For example, let's say there is a cooking forum and on that forum, there is a sauteing area and a boiling area. In the boiling area, there is a thread called, "Tell me why you like boiling your vegetables!" If I hate boiling vegetables or I have never boiled vegetables or I would rather saute vegetables then for me to post in that thread along the lines of how silly the boilers are or how sauteing is so much better, then I am trolling the boilers.

Isn't that the rationale behind moving posts within the forum? So that post would be moved to the saute thread and then it's not trolling at all, but just confirmation that the sauteers are the best cooks? Which they thought anyway...

Can you share this link to the ?definition? I would love to see how much it may have changed or is changing. I do think however, that it's a living word now, and many will use it incorrectly (if you can do such a thing) without even caring... it can be used to rally a group against a person, like you used to be able to just call someone a commie and a mob would show up.

No link, I am sure I read it on this forum someplace. Seriously, almost had to have been here. As of late, I have only spent my limited internet activity either reading here, looking at vape gear over there, watching vape gear reviews, bidding on vape gear, buying the vape gear somewhere else and then tracking the vape gear :)

Hope it rains tomorrow or I will have to go rake leaves again instead of trolling ECF all day

What I see as 'successful' trolling:

    (OP's first post on ecf)
"Just made my first coil, why is the vape so hot?" " It's 0.01 ohms"

OP never responds in their 52 page thread.

    Add:
I hate it when threads get moved prematurely, and never get a decent response as a result.
:MODS: wait until a thread gets a meaningful response, and then move it!
