I'm looking at upgrading from my iTaste VV 3.0 because I'd like better battery life and I already have the new 2014 model NiteCore D4 Intelligent charger, as well as a few 18650 batteries that I use in my modded Surefire E2D-LED flashlight. After reading this thread, It looks like this may be the choice for me especially since I want to be able to use my 18650 batteries and to keep the length as short as possible. If i'm not mistaken, the 5-1/2" length of the Vamo V5 is one of the shortest setups that use that battery. Other contenders were the Sigelei Zmax V5 but that dang thing is over 7 inches. I may bite the bullet and go with the Sigelei 20Watt since it's 5-1/4"... but i'd like to avoid spending that much.

If it's anything like the connector problem that was frequent on the eGo-T batteries, I found out that there was enough slack in the wire going to the center pin to pull the pin completely out, desolder the wire, slide in an uncut rubber gasket, resolder the pin, and press it back down into the connection. I'm not sure how much slack these Vamos have, perhaps someone has experience with taking one apart that can help.

Not sure the Vamo is any shorter in 18650 mode.

And I doubt the flashlight batteries have the right current curve for vaping use. Some just can't handle the current safely. Check the specs before using them for vaping.

These aren't your typical flashlights I'm talking about. They're modified SureFire lights that put out 500-1000 lumens and require high discharge lithium cells.
I'm quite certain AW IMR 18650 3.7v 2,000mah batteries would work just fine in pretty much any vape application.

This surefire E2D-LED Defender before the battery mod would kill a pair of Surefire CR123a high discharge lithium-ion cells in about 60 minutes @ 200 lumens. It now gets about 2 hours after boring out the tube as to fit a single 18650 cell, and after an LED upgrade to 500 lumens, runtime is about an hour.

So, I'm pulling the trigger and getting a Vamo V5 to replace my ego-c twist batteries. I noticed that there is a significant price difference between the aluminum and the chrome/stainless steel versions. What is primary factor in the price difference? Cost of materials to make it or the quality of the materials. Is it simply an aesthetic difference or is there a noticeable difference in performance?

EDIT: Found a discussion on the fasttech website regarding the differences. Thread wear, weight difference, etc.

Hope I'm in the right place for this... I received a replacement Vamo V5 yesterday and was wondering if anyone had a problem with the resistance menu 'stuttering'. In other words: if you depress the (+) button to see what resistance you have (let's just say it is 2.3), the 3 starts stuttering or fluttering (for lack of better words). It stutters super fast. Then I found when you release the button, it'll go back to the 2.3 reading. Out of the box, I noticed that this happened with the 'Voltage' reading also, but Voltage readout hasn't done it since. I tried different heads on it also and found that it was not the head I was using. I wasn't sure if I should send this one back or if I should just live with it. It functions just fine other than that glitch. I just hope it's not going to get worse. Any feedback would be much appreciated. :)

Hi all just wanted to say hello and join the group. :)

I just got my Vamo V5 yesterday anodized rainbow cause I'm girlie like that.

Anyway I love it I was using an eGo-T and with this my juices taste sooo much better!!

It took me forever to get it in RMS mode your supposed to just hold the left button for 10 seconds. Not so with this one I actually had to hit both buttons and go in and turn it on. Maybe a new feature? Idk but I do know I've been cigarette free for 16 days! I love vapeing on this and I don't see myself turning back. Looking forward to reading more thoughts on the Vamo.

Mahalo!

Not on mine. Don't think it ought to do that, might be something loose on a circuit board... I'd return it for another. Unless it clears up after a bit of use, in which case it might have been a dirty switch contact that's then cleaned up. Both are possible causes, and probably equally likely.

AFAIK Most functions can't be changed when it's off.

At the same time, there are several makers, and menus can vary...

I put one of my Protanks on today and it's showing 2.1 ohms and it hasn't stuttered once (the other heads I put on still do the stuttering). I wonder if it is just That sensitive? (maybe wishful thinking). Either way, I just got it and maybe I'll hold on to it for a while and see if it get's any worse. I can't remember- I think there's about a 90 day warranty on it. I'll have to check.

Ah, then it might be just a bad connection, which can certainly make the reading bounce. Could be the coil isn't fully seated in the base, or just not quite long enough, if either it's pin or the Vamo pin is a tiny bit depressed.

And do check the warranty period from the vendor, as they can vary quite a bit.

I've been looking around for a good APV battery to replace my ego style and it seems like I'll have to go for a mod like the Vamo V5 if I want something with high mAh.
My question is if it's worth buying a VAMO V5 if I'm not into rebuildables. I wont get any use out of the built in ohm meter and there's really no need to use VW either if that's the case since VV will serve me just fine if I don't mess around with ohm's etc.

My main reason to switch to a new battery is because I want a bigger one with a bit more weight to it than the thin EVOD I currently have while also getting higher mAh. Do these reasons justify buying a VAMO V5? I'm also wondering how well it fits the Nautilus Mini. So far I've only been able to find picture of it with the original Nautilus. The Nautilus Mini is 19.5mm and the VAMO V5 is 21.5mm but it's hard to tell how it would look without an actual picture.

IMHO don't buy a Vamo. I have 2 of them and rarely use them. I do also own a Provari but I use my Innokin iTaste VV V3 as much as I use my Provari and much more than I use the Vamo's.

In my option the iTaste VV is better than the Vamo. The iTaste VV actually has a cleaner DC voltage signal than the Vamo. I have a Nautilus Mini on it right now and it fits it very well.

I watched PBusrado's review of the VAMO V5 and got a bit dissuaded by it. You mentioned the iTaste, do you mean the VV V3? I'm a bit put off by the square design and it makes me wonder how good it actually looks on a Nautilus Mini. I'm a bit interested in the iTaste SVD though. Are you able to get a picture of your iTaste with your nautilus? I can't find any on google and it would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it is right there in my post VV V3.

The things I like the most about it. It is small, charges with USB (No other charger needed), VV and VW (although I never use the VW as it is just redundant. Same dam thing on a different scale. Like Fahrenheit and Celsius), Ohm reader.

If you plan on running low ohm coils it might not be the best choice. But for standard ohm coils and what I call normal vaping it does very well. Normal vaping is with 1.6 to 2.2+ ohm coils at 3.4 to 4.2 volts.

Yeah sorry, must've missed the V3 part. You don't happen to have a picture of it with a Nautilus Mini though? As silly as it sounds, a big concern of mine is that they wont look good together. And do you have an opinion on the SVD?

While the mentioned Innokin VV3 is a fine device, it's hardly bigger or heavier than most ego styles. The square shape is very comfortable to hold, and it doesn't roll away if you lay it down. But at 800 mAh, it's not likely to be vaping any or much longer (or even less) than a VV ego.

The Vamo, in RMS mode, vapes very nicely. While you don't presently plan on rebuilding, you'll find that darn near ALL adjustable tube (and most box) mods will have the ohm reader. And handy for when you think a coil may be going bad - easy to check it. I find I prefer VW mode, as I normally have a lot of toppers with different flavors - and may not all be the same resistance. As long as the flavors all "like" the same heat, VW means all I have to do is switch them out and vape happy.

Don't have a Naut, mini or full, but 1 mm bigger on each side shouldn't look bad. (Perhaps Shootist can repost the link to his/her pic? Didn't make it through, and I'm guessing it's into the VV3 thread - a looooong one )

If you're interested in box mods, with more weight and mAH, there are a few to pick from. The Innokin MVP2 and the new ILeaf come to mind, both with non-replaceable batteries.

And, of course, there are other adjustable tube mods as well, several in the same price range as the Vamo.

The SVD has had fire button problems. Mine is almost a year old, button lost it's click but keeps working. Others haven't been so fortunate.

The coming soon SVD2. Obviously no user reports on it, yet :)

The Tesla VV/VW.

Various Sigelie models, and other one button interface ones as well.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Is there an ETA on the SVD2? I don't plan on buying a new APV until maybe next month but I could wait a bit longer if it means I have (potentially) a better option.

Tube mods is the way to go, I just recently bought a really nice holster and I don't want to get a new one. I looked up the Tesla and PBusardo's video was more or less enough to convince me that it's not really something I'm looking for. However the Sigelei 20/30W seems very nice.

The SVD 2 (newer model) will be out around the end of September. It will have an updated (actually a new) Evolv DNA 20 watt board in it and sell for under $100. So I certainly would NOT buy the current SVD model. In my opinion the iTaste VV V3 is a better Mod than the current SVD model. Especially teamed with a Nautilus Mini.

Sorry no pictures.
