Another thing to consider with a LiPo battery option is it has to be specifically made for this device. Strictly proprietary. How long do they want to keep sourcing those out?? And how much would that affect the cost??? There will always be an abundant supply of 18650 batteries. And by the time you are ready to replace this one there are probably going to be better ones that they can put in.

Honestly, you can probably outsource LiPo batteries cheaper than 18650s thanks to them being used in several different markets. They aren't proprietary at all. In fact, there are wayyy more size/capacity/power options when it comes to LiPo.

I maintain that if you aren't going to make a battery user serviceable ... you might as well use LiPo. Devices can maintain a smaller profile while delivering more discharge power. The only logical reason I could see in NOT using LiPo would be if they've noticed a tremendous amount of bloated cells when servicing them. And I highly doubt that has been the case.

The old VSDNA30 had a LiPo battery, and LiPo is (generally) more efficient and can be discharged more than a Li-Ion 18650 before out of usable voltage.

In the case of most regulated DNA-based mods, an 18650 could have as much as 20% of its charge left (this varies based on the board), but not be able to output enough voltage for the mod to fire (low battery warning).

In a 2500mAh 18650 IMR battery, that means you're "wasting" as much as 500mAh capacity. A LiPo can (usually) go much lower on charge % and still provide usable voltage, so the gap between 1100mAh and 2500mAh isn't really 1400mAh, and that doesn't count for the greater efficiency of LiPo.

LiPo batteries also have a greater tendency to fail catastrophically, so there's that. :)

The DNA 40 cuts off at 3.2v. It took 5 hrs and change to fully charge the LG HE2 battery at 500ma so it uses all of the rated 2500mah battery. It takes a little over 3 hrs to charge with the internal usb port (800ma).

My Cloupor Mini cuts off at 3.6v but I've not checked how long it takes to fully charge.

It's the same as the rdna... I bought it when they announced it around 6p so not long at all ~4days

What took so long? I got that e-mail at 5:26p :p

Think that battery can be replaced with a little solder/effort?

It's impressively small on that side by side. More impressive than on paper.

I'm getting the bug to want another mod - haha. Trying to be patient as I've only had my rdna 40 for like 4 weeks! And only had my Provari 2.5 mini for like 3-4 months, but I got the itch! Haha

Anyone that can solder should be able to swap the battery fairly easily but with a 300-500 charge cycle, you should be good for at least a year of everyday use.

Appreciate the info greatly Alistairs! Do I understand it correctly. In order to get a Kayfun to be a "temperature sensing atomizer" i would need to use nickel?
Just wanting to make sure that I'm looking at a purchase that has more bells and whistles than I need, as I'm much into sub ohming personally.

Thanks for your patience

Yes, you need nickel wire for any atomizer to use TP.

With the rubberized body is there a need for a shark skin??

Tap'd from my LG G3

It feels solid, like it can handle pocket duty. I expect it would scratch if I put it in my pocket with keys, but most would. I'm pretty easy on mods, careful about not "trying" to scratch them, so consider a skin if you drop, toss, or just don't want to worry about it b

I baby all of my stuff. But things happen. Better safe than sorry. Pretty sure if I get one it will be a strictly stay at home so I may not need the added protection.

Yes you need to use Ni200 wire to make your Kayfun (or any other atty) temperature sensing. It will work just fine with Kanthal but without the temperature sensing. You don't have to do anything to switch between the two - the device will sense Ni200 or Kanthal automatically. Working with Ni200 is a bit different than Kanthal, it has much lower resistance, is much softer, needs firm connections, and seems to work best with spaced coils. Lots of discussion of various builds in the DNA40 and rDNA threads.

TP is filling product holes? I would say that's evolutionary. Yihi is just upping watts.
Wait for the Ides of March. YiHi has a surprise for you. Their TC SX350J chip that already has the pre-heat selection in kanthal mode is coming. I think it is good to see feature competition going on. Did I mention the SX350 v250 that not only has TC but supports a color screen....

You know I bought the IPV Mini to take out and I still reach for my rDNA 30 when heading out the door.
I hear you. I bought a Kangxin Vapor Flask DNA40 clone and Evolv really did a nice job. I am loving Evolv tech in my Kayfun v4 nickel build and Kanger protank2 kanthal clearomizers. The only question I have is where to get a nice side by side housing for the Evolv DNA 40 board I bought in anticipation of a poorly performing Chinese knockoff.
