Have you thought about using a 2.1 barrel jack with three prong connector. These usualy have an extra connection for a wire from the positive battery so both battery and 2.1 jack have the same output point. When the output jack is open ut uses external. When closed uses battery. Just a thought.

that is a good Idea, But I like the way the mono 1/8 snaps into place....it is VERY secure....

I agree with chatter97, you need to separate battery and pt with a 2.1mm shunt plug or a on off on switch. It would be dangerous if you plug in your pt source and send that voltage to the batteries.

Normally the center pin is (+) and the pin that opens when the plug enters is (+) from Bat. Most sources have the center pin (+).

Your schematic is correct only the pic confusing as the center is normally (+). The pins that open and close circuit are normally (-). Sorry I wrongly typed (+) in the first reply.

I was referring to the center of the plug and not the center pin.

This is the common setup for those barrel jacks, just how he has it, but the center pin threw me off as well.

The 12v snap on has a female 4 wire plug to attach with an extension to the balancing charger. The 2.1mm plug and a protruding magnet holds the two together. The larger base area has the advantage with heavy atty like the GTUS it won't tip over.

I have been playing with battery packs wired in parallel and serial so I could use a single LiIon cell charger. So far the testing indicates it works well. The opinions on safely doing this are all over the board. Some experts say the cell circuitry makes it fine(very well respected battery experts) and others say don't do it even with the safety circuit. Been testing it for a couple of days now and it works well so far. similar to your idea, I am building a pv passthrough devise that uses a 2.1mm connector. I built my own charger from a board I bought online that charges at 500ma per hour charging and only need 5 volts to charge. The method to connect the boxes that worked for me was to connect them back to back with two custom plastic pieces and 1 magnet to hold them together. That seems to work well so far. Now I just have to finish up the innards and tidy it up, finish testing it and then show time.

The magnet is ok for normal use, I may make a slide in frame for rough use.

Are they rare earth magnets? Have you tried polymorph or sugru? I like to use sugru to firm up wires that are external. The polymorph makes nice plastic parts and is easy to use.

The stuff is pretty cool, i have just started playing with them. One of these days I will actually finish one of these mods I have started, but Skyrim keeps pulling me to play instead of modding.

Had a extra 2AA box.

The parts:
2 AA Box
Meter
2596 regulator
on off on slide switch
SS push button switch
2.1mm power plug
atty connecter

Tight, but they will fit.

This is the wiring, the parts are positioned a little different but the same wiring.

Now to the hole cutting.
