The Mini doesn't have or need grooves on the deck, the grooves are on the side. This is better IMO; gravity helps keep the juice channel open.
In regards to the insulator, a razor blade can be used to cut away the "land"; (as in lands & grooves). The brown insulator material is surprisingly soft.
As we know too well, there's no QA in China. Here's one more example.
JC again; you can add this to your list on why Kanger should just send you the whole tank. Yet another assembly item to deal with. I'm sure that China is well aware of this issue too.
