I got half of my northerner order today. I accidentally left my work address on the shipping so I got it just a few minutes ago. I used to be good friends with the receiving guy so would have orders shipped to work. I'm glad the new guy didn't open it with the rest of the ups. It's actually better to have it shipped to work. My wife is on this wonky schedule where she stays up until early am and wakes around 11 or so. Her chronic migraines have gotten her on this schedule. She'll wake up with a migraine, take medicine, and then lay back down until she feels better. A lot of times she doesn't feel like herself until evening. She tried one auto injection medicine for a year and it helped a little but not great. Now she's on a new one but it doesn't seem so great either.

Had quite a wake up this morning. The dog was whining around 3AM and I took him out and walked him down the drive. When I got down near the road I saw this in the dark. It hadn't rained and there was no wind but I thought it might have fallen from the side of the drive.

Took the dog back in but he was reluctant and, when he finally was back in the house, he headed to the back deck and wouldn't come in. About 20 minutes later the electric went out. I figured I had a cleanup and I knew the rain was coming so I was up from three till daybreak.

Well, being able to see what occurred, the tree had electric lines in it. I worked my way thru the woods out to the road and I found that a perfectly good tree from the Boy Scouts side had left loose and fell into the lines and then my drive. I called the electric company and they were already aware. The tree people showed up at 7, cleared my drive and the lines. Then PECO showed up at 9 and had me up and running by 10:30. Now I have a maple tree's worth of firewood plus half a smaller oak tree that got broken off by the fall.

    That’s kind of scary.

My wife texted me late this afternoon and said her mom was in an accident in her Ford Escape. It sounds like she either didn’t stop at a stop sign or just didn’t see the bigger suv coming on the side street that doesn’t have a stop sign. She hurt her leg and bumped her head but is ok.

Driver side or passenger side hit? Sounds like passenger side unless she got hit in the engine compartment area. Hopefully she'll recover quickly. Injuries last so much longer as you get older.

On Wednesday I ran into a guy I hadn't seen in probably 10 years. He was a fairly young and spry guy (well, at least compared to me). In the couple minutes we talked walking into the grocery store, all he talked about was everything that was wrong with him and he looked 80 instead of late 50s or early 60s.

I checked out the work the tree left after the deluge of rain we had yesterday. I'm thinking it may not have been an uprooted tree at all but just a limb off a big tree. If I'm right, it was a huge limb. The pieces I need to cut up across the road are in the neighborhood of 2 feet in diameter.

Yeah, it was a limb, over 20 inches where it broke off the tree. As I got a better look today in trying to cut it up, I remember looking at it a while back and saying to myself that if it ever came down it would hit the wires.

I was having a heck of a time cutting it up. The chain was dull and near the end of life but I didn't feel like changing it. I have a Woodchuck, a tool for rotating logs and lifting them off the ground so I don't damage the blade by hitting the ground. The one log had a knot that was stopping me from turning it up plus the weight of the log itself. I even pulled my back a bit trying.

Anyway, I made three cuts in the one log and decided I needed to do the log behind it first so I could roll the other log the other way, away from the knot. I made 4 cuts into that one and rolled it to make the final cuts and realized the chainsaw wasn't cutting straight, it was bending the cut to the left. I managed to cut the four rounds but not very pretty and then was able to roll the first log and finish those cuts with the same problem, bent cuts.

I'm guessing the chain is pretty well shot but instead of changing it, I tried to finish that log. It only got worse and it was getting hotter. I gave up and went back and put a newer chain on it. Maybe after dinner I'll go out and finish those two logs. It will be much easier now anyway or I'll just wait a couple days and work on them. The rest of the limb and the top half of the tree that got broken on the fall is on the side of my driveway and a lot lighter to deal with.

It sure sounds like a lot of work taking care of that. Is it really worth it instead of buying wood?

I was wrong about my mother in laws accident. My wife sent me a picture of the escape and she got hit on the drivers side right on the tire and fender. It looked like the tire was bent under some.

Hey, she was real lucky then. A split second earlier on taking off, it would have been the driver's compartment. She probably got whipped into the side window.

Yeah, it's a lot of work but the exercise is good as long as you don't overdue. I pulled a muscle in my back trying to turn the one log. Not bad but it's there. I don't know how many years I'll be able to do what I do but as long as I can, I shall.

The other thing is you really need the equipment or a nice neighbor (like me) that does the work. I've bailed out four of my neighbors where they've had tree issues plus dealt with stuff I'd have to have hired someone to take care of myself. I came down my road a number of winters ago and a young gal and her child were sitting in their car with the drive blocked trying to figure out what to do. I ran home and grabbed my chainsaw and had her freed up in a couple minutes.

It’s great that you can still do all that stuff. I hope I’m in that good of shape when I’m your age. My father in law is 84 and still gets around great. He keeps a fairly large garden in the summer and exercises at a hospital program he pays for at least a couple times a week. The have one or two nurses on hand to monitor the people. He’s been doing it for about 20 years since he had bypass surgery.

@hittman Not sure what is going on, but I just went looking for Thunder Raspberry wondering what the regular price is (I know what I paid for what I have), and NO site out there listed it at all. I wonder if there is a production problem or if it has been discontinued, could not find anything. I have quite a bit in the freezer, but I sure hope it has not been discontinued as it is one of my favorites.

I don’t know if the same company makes jakobsen or not but northerner said that the makers of jakobsen melon had production problems and that’s why the roll I ordered is on backorder until August.

Jakobsson's in made by Gotlandssnus and Thunder is made by V2 Tobacco. On Snuscentral they list some under Thunder, but nothing under V2 Tobacco.

    This might be the problem.
CONFIRMED: Swedish Match AB buying Gotlandssnus AB for 300MM SEK - SnusCENTRAL

The combined Swedish Match snus brand portfolio plus the V2 and Gotlandssnus brands will give SMAB the largest and most diverse snus brand portfolio in the world.

    Also
    https://www.snuscentral.org/snus-ne...h-to-release-new-snus-offerings-in-us-stores/

The Xtreme Red Strong portion is a cranberry/raspberry blend; I recognize the raspberry element from Thunder Ultra Strong Raspberry portion. Like other Thunder flavored snuses, the taste is good but not as natural as Jakobsson’s or the Swedish Match berry flavored snuses.
That sucks as I hate cranberry.

I think waho tried the red and said it wasn’t that good. I’ve been meaning to add a couple cans to an order but keep forgetting.
Wish I had known all this when I made my order last month, I would have gotten at least 1 can to try, but now it will be a LONG time until my next order, I have an insane amount in the freezer.
