I finally get remote start. I always thought it was kind of silly. It doesn't take long for the car to warm up in the winter. You already have a jacket on and gloves if it's cold enough.

However, when it's 97 and the car has been sitting out for hours in the heat, it's really, really nice to start it remotely and let it cool off before you sit down. I started mine maybe 5 minutes before I left the house and it was already 78 degrees inside when I sat down. It actually felt cold after being in that heat.

Anna, I never would have gotten it if it wasn't on the Escape when I bought it. I used it once in the winter just to see how it worked but never think of it in the winter.

However, yesterday I got in after the car was sitting in the direct sun for six hours and it was like a sauna. I said not today. It's nice because I don't have to fiddle with the climate controls. It was set on 78 and once started, it brought the temp in the car to 78 when I got in.

It's totally fine, no judgements here. LOL. Some slight jealousy perhaps I never thought of auto turn on for anything other than COLD and I can DO cold.

When I thought of heat, oh MAN would my life be better. LOL, fortunately I like sticks shift cars and you can really only get the base models unless you special order.

I mean, my current car's great claim to fame was a) a SIX CD player (LOL you can hook up your phone but not wirelessly and without modification by the husband) and an aftermarket alarm that made it so all the doors opened and shut when you pushed a button.

It died several times, I now just gave up on it. I open my doors using a key, like oh, someone from the 80s.

But, as I age, I am rethinking my choices. However, my little base model Mazda 3 I just paid it off so like, I have no desire to get rid of it.

It used to be zippy and awesome then the husband killed the gear ratios and brakes by driving it over mountains at 60 MPH in like 3rd gear as I screamed, "I told you it was handling like a PIG it's so overloaded! What is wrong with you!" I should have driven.

Heh, it was so bad I had no compunction in loaning it to my mother, who also has a heavy foot on the clutch.

Sad times. Because I have never once needed a clutch replacement in any of my cars, and one had over 200K on it. I have a light foot with the clutch.

LOL

Anna

My Jeep that I’ve had for seven years came with remote start and heated seats. I use the remote start all the time when getting ready to leave work or if I’m taking my wife somewhere. She’s not very tolerant of heat or cold. However, I always keep it garaged overnight.

I never had all that luxury stuff until later in life and usually the car is ready for the junk yard rather than the used car lot when I'm done with them. Two years ago I got rid of my 2000 Olds Bravada when it was going to cost thousands to fix. I just got rid of my 2007 Escape as it had all kinds of issues and I didn't feel comfortable of using my trailer anymore.

This '16 Escape will probably be different. Too much that can go wrong that's expensive, but we'll see. I was only looking for a decent small SUV that could handle towing up to 3,500 pounds and as long as I don't overdue a load of firewood, it's perfect. Factory towing package, great sound system where I can connect bluetooth to Spodify or play my collection from a USB stick and all the other fancy stuff. I might as well spoil myself on the way out the door.

Hitt, garages aren't for cars, they're for motorcycles. LOL

After posting it just hit me, Hitt. Just a couple days over a week ago, you had your 10th anniversary since you started vaping or at least since you joined on here. Tomorrow will mark my 10th anniversary. I started a couple weeks earlier when the live in talked me into buying two Blu cigarettes and I started looking for something better.

The big anniversary is a bit over 6 months when I hit the none smoking date.

It sure is nice having the car in the garage when it's hot or cold out.

It's kind of funny that my ten year anniversary on ecf is only a week or so away from my work anniversary. I've got almost 22 years at my job.

Anybody have any Shark Bite fitting experience? I had the unpleasant experience of having to try to deal with a leaking shut off valve under the sink of one of my baths. The cold water was coming out in dribbles recently and I checked to see if the valve was completely open. My guess was that the metal on a washer had deteriorated and pieces were blocking the outlet. When I turned the valve they moved and the water ran fine but the valve then leaked.

I stuck a large jar under it to catch the water but when it was nearly filled in 15 minutes I new I had nothing that was going to contain the water until I could get what I needed to repair it so I shut down the main and took off hoping I could get the washer but concerned about the age of the valve and the fact that I never saw metal integrated into a washer.

I did look up the valve by brand and found them on HD so I thought there was a chance. However, my first stop was an Ace which was close to where I needed to pick up dog food. No luck but the guy suggested a plumbing supply in a town 20 minutes away. No luck and a trip to HD in a third town 20 minutes away. I just love parts hunting.

Anyway, I get to HD and am looking all over and they don't have the brand and I forgot my cell to look it up and find out what isle they're in. Finally an HD employee arrived in the area and I found they didn't carry the brand. Turns out they were special order according to the site.

Now I've sweated fittings on before but where the shut off valve was, I wasn't much for trying to burn down my house trying. That's when I got my introduction to the Shark Bite. He gave me a brief description and off I went with a new valve and a cheap, small tube cutter since I was pretty sure the one I had was too big to use where the pipe was.

Cut the pipe, cleaned it up, marked the inch on the pipe they said to mark top show where the fitting should go to on the pipe and put the valve on. No matter how hard I tried, that fitting wouldn't go to that one inch mark. I got it somewhere between 3/4 inch and maybe 7/8 inch of the mark and questioned whether my mark was totally accurate since I was holding a tape measure and pen behind a drain to mark it but I could imaging going down to the basement and turning the water on and having water spray all over the place.

I had to wait until the gf came home so I could watch as she turned the water on and I looked for success or failure. No leak and it seems to be fine. I'm assuming I bottomed out and my mark was off, at least I'm hoping. I did some research and found a chart that seemed to indicate that the half inch fitting needed less than an inch to have it in completely and another instruction sheet that showed removing a liner inside the fitting if you weren't working with PEX. That was optional but I'm thinking that may have also reduced the possible depth.

    Any expert opinion in here?

I’ve used shark bite connectors a few times. I used them when I installed my water heater and also when I had to cap the pipe that went to my refrigerator because the builder ran hot water to the fridge. I never measured how far they went on. I just push them on until they stop. The ones I used have been on probably seven years or so and I’ve never had a leak.

Man Anna, that's one heck of a thread! I'm going to have to spend some time looking thru that.

Hitt, I think you're right. I was just concerned since it was the first one for me. It certainly made the task unbelievably easier to accomplish. I wasn't looking forward to trying to sweat a new valve to the pipe.

I wish I had known about these things back when we were selling my mom's place. I had to bring a plumber in there because of a pipe I wasn't willing to fix because of it's location in a 60 plus year old house. As it turned out, I could have left everything alone anyway because once the new people moved in they gutted the kitchen, moved it into the garage and the old kitchen became a dining room. They did a great job but it would have been easier on us had they told us their plans.

I've been stuck in the same snus routine for so long that I'm truly surprised that I like the jakobsson mint as much as I do. I know it's not a huge stretch from general mint to jakobsson but it is different. I still haven't gotten the melon that I orderd with it but was backordered.

Between the General original and mint I've been satisfied. And with both being available locally I haven't had to place an order in quite some time. I remember when I first started using snus and I wanted to try everything. I went through periods where I loved Odens and Jakobssons but then I got tired of them and went back to General. I'm a simple man, at least according to my wife I am. :D

Yeah that kind of sucks when it's something you use everyday and they stop making it. Hopefully you find a suitable replacement Hitt. I quit using all strong portions last year but I do notice I go through a few more regular portions when I drink. My daily routine hasn't changed, two in the morning, two in the afternoon and one at night. I am going to make an effort to ditch the vape here pretty soon just to see if I can survive on only one crutch. Should be interesting to see how it goes. But heck, I gave up smoking so what's the big deal?

I usually go through 4-5 portions a day at work and usually 1-2 in the evening depending on what I'm doing. I don't see myself ever giving up vaping. I've really gotten into diy mixing the past year or two and really enjoy experimenting and trying new flavors and mixes.

Jakobsson mint? Sacrilege! I actually have never tried it, I've just been so satisfied with General. I don't really keep track of my daily consumption. I just put a new one in when I'm bored with the lack of flavor. I'm probably a can and a portion of a second, maybe a third, a week.
