Hitt, that's so true but even at that, it would have been less expensive than my smoking habit was and when I look at it now, I'm so glad I first found e cigs and then this great page.

Cigarettes around here are now up to almost $9 a pack counting taxes. My two to three PAD habit would now cost me over $150 a week. I probably should increase the cost figures in my calculation of how much I've saved. I think I still have it at around $6.25 per pack. I have no remorse when I place a $200 plus order for snus. I think the last time I ordered was early last year and I still am on that box.

I don't understand why the army etc. encourages smoking like that. I mean, I don't think I could have gotten through boot camp on ONE pack a day let alone 3. IDK it's probably some long ago far away artifact that just got left behind.

And, to be 100% clear I would ONE BILLION times prefer to enter the Mexican Duty shop than the army.

No offense to all you military lot I have a hunch I'm just not cut out for it....

When I was in, you couldn’t smoke in basic training/boot camp. I was a little over two months smoke free and the first thing I did when I graduated was go to buy a pack. I have kicked myself many times over that. I could have avoided another 19 years of smoking.

I did basic in 89. There were a few people in the barracks that were somehow getting some and sneaking outside at night to smoke. I’m surprised how well I did not craving those two months. However the drill sergeant kept us pretty rattled so there wasn’t much time to think about smoking.

By the end of nursing I probably could have stayed cigarette free, only I went back to drinking for a few months before getting sober. I didn't get like, crazy drunk like I used to, it's almost impossible to like, care for a baby/toddler and drink and do drugs all day. But then this thing of much excitement occurred and they were like, in the hospital "OH HELL YEAH YOU ARE INSANE AND ALSO A DRUNK."

I kind of didn't have enough brain capacity for denial so like I was all "YOU ARE RIGHT I TOTALLY CAN'T USE SUBSTANCES. OR, DRIVE FOR A YEAR."

LOL I was a little jealous of the non-drunk bipolar dude who came in at the same time and they were ALL about telling him how much he could drink on his med and it was all fine. But, I also realized whatever number they gave me, I could exceed it.

But yeah, if I had not started drinking again, I don't THINK I would have started smoking again, but IDK.

    What is, is.

I quit for 3 years, under pressure from a former SWMBO

My first smoking experiences were curiousity. I even hid it from school mates
But second time starting was peer pressure. "Oh, your missus left, you must be stressed"

which is why, almost 6 years in, I still identify as a smoker. Like AA. Once a smoker, always...

Boy Hitt, you're cheap back there, cheaper than the cost of cigarettes back when I quit. Anna, that seems impossible. Isn't the US tax in cigarettes more than that?

Anna, by the time I got to the Army, I was between a pack or two a day. We'd get a break in basic with the command, "Smoke em if you got em" (Hitt that demonstrates the difference in our ages, 18 years difference in basic). those cans outside the barracks were always getting filled.

I played competitive sports nearly into my 60 and could ride a bicycle 100 miles, smoking along the way. I'm guessing that the sports helped the effects of smoking.

Funny, I don't ID as a smoker at all at this point. The only person I even hassle a little is my COPD live-in and that's mild.

Well I finally got to having to fix the stove. I fixed my 22 year old GE microwave a few times- broken handle mostly. I also had to fix the ice maker in the matching refrig. Now the big burner on the stovetop died. I found the replacement part on Amazon for just under $100 and a youtube made by a 9 month pregnant woman so I figured I should be able to fix it, I only look maybe three months pregnant. lol.

You can do it Roth. We bought a new flat top range around Xmas this past year. I got tired of putting coils in the old one. It was almost 20 years old and put in by the builder. The new one takes some getting used to. I have an app on my phone where I can preheat the top or bottom oven remotely as long as the range is connected to the WiFi. One other thing I like about it is it has a warming spot on the cooktop that I’ve used to keep things warm while other things are finishing cooking.

Speaking of ranges, I just repaired two more burners on our 38 year old jenn-air range. We've been gathering quotes and whatnot on a major kitchen remodel so I haven't bothered to price a replacement.

We got remodel quotes from a couple remodeling places, both being fairly high due to our ranch style house with a wall right down the middle we presumed was load bearing and moving the kitchen into the dining room on the opposite side of the house. We called a builder for a quote a few weeks ago and he poked his head up into the attic and said with the way the roof rafters are the wall is 100% not load bearing. Certainly pays to call around when that wall coming down is more like $1000 rather than $10k-12k for an engineered beam.

Waho, I'm in the same situation. My kitchen is a disaster. Cabinets are falling apart and it needs a total do over. I've bounced between the thought, and cost, of opening it up into the LR and just have it rebuild in the compact space where it currently resides.

Opening the floor plan would require eliminating the DR and creating an eat-in kitchen. The house is really ideal for a couple or maybe one child so I think I'll end up just having the kitchen where it is and just gutting it and just making it appealing again. Until then, I'll just repair what's repairable.

I emailed northerner about the melon snus that was back ordered on my order last month and it took six days to get a response. I’m not feeling very confident that I’m ever going to get it.
yep, that does not sound good, hope you get it. Could also do a back charge on CC, but don't wait too long.

Northern is such a disappointment. I never did get to Bethlehem before they took over for whoever had a snus operation there. There was originally a storefront then all of a sudden it was gone. Then for a brief while they were good for mail order and then that went bad and, to make matters worse, their prices became uncompetitive with Sweden. To make matters worse, you get better delivery from the Swedish companies. I just don't get it.
