Happy 2019 folks! Back to reality today, ugh.
I was surprised to see a bill from a collection agency this morning. About 6 months ago I had a problem with my water softener. I called the company that installed it since it was less than 2 years ago and still under warranty.
They sent a guy out to replace a part which didn't fix it. So I went ahead and fixed it myself, called them and said I wasn't going to pay to have someone come out and not fix my issue. They said they would take $20 off the bill for the part I replaced, I countered that I would pay for the $5 part they replaced and that's it.
They mailed the -$20 bill so I sent them a $5 check. They sent a bill for the remainder 3 more times, each time I called and said we're fair and square as I see it.
I figure collections agencies pay pennies on the dollar for debt, so I'll cover their cost and be done with it.
