That's because they don't 'get it'.... you're not using it as a smoking cessation device, you're using it as an alternative.
Exactly. The antis have people so brainwashed that nicotine use is so bad for us even without smoking that they don't considered us to have "quit smoking" unless we have quit nicotine, as well.

It's the same faulty argument prohibiting vendors from claiming e-cigs can help you quit smoking. People just don't understand or accept that once you have switched over to a smokeless alternative you HAVE quit smoking. We just haven't quit nicotine. Vendors can't claim to help people quit smoking (despite loads of evidence) because where e-cigs "fail" as a cessation product is that they don't actually help people quit NICOTINE. That is completely irrational. One doesn't have to quit nicotine to quit smoking. A point I made once was - if a coffee drinker switches to cola, are they still "coffee drinkers" simply because cola has caffeine? The argument that you haven't quit smoking because you still use nicotine is ridiculous.

And given the fact that the health risks from smokeless nicotine are comparable to caffeine, we should no more be expected to quit than caffeine users. There are millions more caffeine users than nicotine users, considering caffeine is found in coffee, tea, energy drinks, soda, chocolate products, diet aids and headache medicine.

What would be really funny would be to get that question from someone sucking down their third Mountain Dew or Diet Coke for the day. Boy, would I have a word or two for them! LOL!

Wow!!! I find this even funnier because my mom was the biggest nag about my smoking habit. I could tell her "wow, what a pretty day outside" and she would reply "it would be even prettier if you quit smoking".... So when I quit, she was all jazzed about it. I had been vaping 7 days......7 whole freaking days......when she asked me "how much longer before you don't use that electric thingy?" UUGH!

My mom was never THAT bad, but she used to ..... up a storm any time she smelled cigarette smoke, and she's like a bloodhound with that ..... She could smell the smoke on me as soon as I walked in the door when she's in a completely different room. When I told her about the e-cigarette, she was supportive, and she asked questions. I told here that they make juices with different levels of nicotine and even some without any at all. She thought that was great and hoped that I eventually step down and quit. I may someday, but I doubt it. Even though she knows it's not smoke and it doesn't smell, she's still uneasy about seeing the vapor. It just bugs her for some reason. I think her reason for hating smoking/smokers/smoke is more psychological than anything. Her father was a heavy smoker and he used to beat the living daylights out of her, her siblings, and her mother. I think she subconsciously associates what he did with smoking because her disgust for it is so ridiculous. She will sometimes literally freak out just because she got a whiff of smoke. She's complained a few times about me vaping. She never said I can't do it in the house, but she's made sure I know that seeing the vapor bothers her. Whenever she says something about it, I say "Well would you rather have me smoking cigarettes?" That usually shuts her up. She's asked me a few times when I plan on stepping down the nicotine, but she doesn't nag. And she would never snap back at me with a smartass comment like that.

After I had my blu for a few weeks, she started asking me questions about how much it costs and whatnot. She wanted me to talk to my brothers about e-cigs because they're both smokers. I got one of my brothers to get a Magma, and he says he's still smoking but only occasionally. I'm not sure exactly what "occasionally" means specifically, but who cares? As long as he's smoking less, that's a step in the right direction. I haven't totally quit analogs either. I went without them for at least a couple weeks. Sometimes I just feel like a cigarette, and the e-cig doesn't QUITE give me the same thing. I feel better though, and I've noticed I can catch my breath faster now that I'm smoking less. Hooray for e-cigs!

Yeah. It's the result of all the crud advertising though - everyone 'knows' that e-cigs are for 'quitting smoking' now. Jeez...

We should have an Honest Advertising Day and reward people that sell things for what they actually are, rather than what sounds good. When hell freezes over. I guess there are vendors out there who sell their kit based on the fact it's an alternative smoking system, but some days they seem hard to find.

... but it really isn't an alternative smoking system; there's no smoke involved. I know that seems like a pedantic point, but IMO that distinction is crucial to the misunderstandings that Kristin referred to above.

Maybe. I think anyone that comments to you as against knows nothing and asks what it is, probably has in their mind that "It's a device to quit". That's what I was referring to.

As regards what to call it / how to describe it - well, it's an alternative *something* system, pick your favorite, I guess. Alt nicotine system, alt smoking system, alt particulate cloud inhalation system, whatever. Some people don't like the association with smoking but to me that feels a bit dishonest. I do it because it looks and feels and satisfies like smoking and is likely to be less harmful, and I try and set up my kit so it's as similar to smoking as possible; maybe others do it for other reasons.
