Why do people who stop vaping go back to normal cigarettes?

I'm seeing a lot of posts about people switching back to normal ciggs and then switching back to vaping. Personally it makes me facepalm, but I want to know why people actually might do this?

Was smoking not a big deal to you in the first place? Did you not lose the appeal for the smell of burning carcinogenics? Did you throw away all your vaping supplies for some reason and not develop a smart plan to permanently wean off nicotine, or not think to keep a backup in case of anything?

I just don't get it, picking up smoking is a big mistake imo but getting off them and coming back when you have this alternative seems like a much bigger one.

Smoking has a powerful, powerful hold on most people. Even though vaping is so much better, sometimes it is not quite as simple for everyone. It hasn't always been that simple for me. I still will occasionally smoke an analog if I am around someone smoking. I can't really explain it because it tastes awful, is slowly killing me, but the hold is strong.

I'm glad you and many others here do not have to battle it.

I know the feeling, I'm still new and if my girlfriend smokes at a time when I have my usual triggers I'm don't feel bad for having about half. But just weird to see how people fall of the rails and switch back to smoking for weeks, months of years. I don't think anyone is that lacking in willpower

I've noticed that a lot of the people that go back to regular cigs started a while back when the technology wasn't as good. I think that has a lot to do with it. Without clearo's I might have never made it this long having to refill carts every 30 minutes.
Very true. I talked to a smoker the other day who tried vaping but said he didn't like it. Of course he had only tried the cig-a-likes from earlier years

From a couple of the accounts, which I read . . . The vaping experience did not satisfy their needs nor did it quench their desire to smoke cigarettes.

We are all ex-smokers until we have that next cigarette. For some it is a daunting task to quit. Myself, knowing the dangers of smoking, I have failed many times trying to quit.

Having moved forward into vaping, I have attempted to give myself every advantage to maintain the best vaping experience, which I can afford. In doing so, I trust that do not fall back into my old habit.

We can applaud those, whom make an effort. We can help those, whom have fallen down. Perhaps, someday, I will fall down and need an encouraging and helping hand to get back onto my feet, again.

For some people, nicotine alone is not enough. They still suffer severe withdrawal symptoms, depression. insomnia. Some supplement vaping with Swedish snus, dissolvable tobacco or WTA eliquids.

Our brains are very, very complicated.

I'm mainly referring to people who made a successful switch. I know initially it's complex and different for everyone. But it does seem there might be a correlation between outdated e-cigs and relapse

I was one of those who started vaping with one of those cig-a-likes. I've moved on to clearos and cartos with tanks and have had much better success.

My daughter-in-law's mother started smoking ecigs about a year before me, actually she was the one that turned me on, and she's recently gone back to analogs. I think it's a combination of old tech and meeting up with an old friend that smokes has made her turn back. The psychological factors are too much for her to resist. She knows it's bad for her and has COPD.

That is very true, Hak! I'm meeting all those 4-year ECF veterans who joined in 2009, dropped out of sight, and now are returning. It's so good to see them again!

No switch is ever successful. Once a smoker...

It really is more complicated than you think. So many people struggle so desperately. Others get their new kit and never light up another cigarette.

I know I still struggle with it from time to time. When I started vaping though I started to quit analogs all together. I never knew that this would turn into a hobby. So everyday I don't light up I am one dollar closer to my next toy. May sound strange but vaping has put new life in me and given me a much needed hobby as well.

You should go to the "blogs" link at the top of the page...I did that last night.....and found a VERY interesting thread about alkaloids that are in cigarette smoke...that seem to have been proven to show that some folks don't get enough from vaping alone...many reasons for this....it's a MUST read for all of us here. I was so intrigued by this that I printed out 5 copies of the 3 part article to give to some folks where I work, one of whom just now is starting to give vaping a try as a means to quit smoking. Go there and read it yourself...and become more informed. I consider it to be crucial information for any of us who have an interest in trying to get others to follow in our footsteps. I am very glad that I happen to fall into the group described in the blog who are easily able to stay away from smoking with only vaping.

Thanks for that I will have to check it out. I am trying to convert my mother as she has COPD and is very stubborn.
