Yes that 510 connector looks exactly like my two Wismec Reuleaux RX 200 (black, teal) and two Reuleaux DNA. Out of the four, only my black one chipped paint just like yours. None of the face plates ever chipped though and I thought they were made out of plastic. But yours doesn't look plastic and maybe none of mine are either.
I had my two RX200 for two months and I had no problems with the 510 yet. That SS Griffin, you screwed that one more than I would have. And yes, everything I have RDAs, RTAs, and regular tanks are never flush (except my Crown tanks). My black RX only chipped when new and then stopped chipping. Maybe yours will stop too.
My two DNA200 paint seems better and I don't think it will chip at all (unless you purposely try to make one). My RX teal one the paint also seems better and that one hasn't chipped yet either. The DNA ones have the same short 510 connector as the RX.
I measured the 510 pin and the shortest pin that will reach is 3.9mm. Which seems very high to me. My Crown tanks has a 4.6mm 510 (I don't think I have anything shorter). And that seems to be as far as one should go with that 510 connection. So it looks like to me that spring pin only travels 0.7mm and that is it. So if you don't push it more than that, I believe those 510 will last years to come.
